Ruggable review: these washable rugs are the perfect interiors solution for high-risk households

IF there is one thing that I love, it’s interior design.

I bought my first home in October of the first lockdown and have been interiors mad ever since.

a room with a rug and a desk with a computer on it
Aaron Dowler
As an interior design obsessive, I was excited to put Ruggable to the test[/caption]

My obsession is now at the stage where I need to hide any new rugs or lamps from my other half. My firm stance is that you need six to eight lamps and at least one rug per room if you want to create magic.

That makes me perfectly placed to do a Ruggable review.

A rug is an expense that people always forget about; it’s usually the very last piece of decor to go in a room, but it can often be the most impactful.

It zones the space, breaks up the flooring and can tie your colour scheme together beautifully.

If you’ve not seen Ruggable all over socials, then you must have been under a rock (or a less stylish rug).

The brand’s washable beauties have taken the interior world by storm, and it works on so many high-profile collaborations that you’re almost guaranteed to find a design you like.

Pros

  • Beautiful designs
  • Washable
  • Personalisation option with standard or cushioned pads
  • Huge array of designs including big-name collaborations

Cons

  • Larger sizes don’t fit in a standard washing machine drum
  • Can crease at corners

Rating: 5/5

Ruggable review: how I tested

a living room with a couch a table and a fireplace
Aaron Dowler
I tested two rugs from Ruggable, as well as a doormat[/caption]

For this review, I chose a couple of rugs from the Architectural Digest collaboration alongside a Jean Michel Basquiat doormat (but that didn’t stop me from cooing over the Morris & Co or Goop collections).

Other notable collaborations include Disney, Iris Apfel, Bridgerton, Arsenal, and Star Wars.

I tried to campaign to have a ‘Welcome to my Home AD’ video to go along with this review but my editor wouldn’t sign off the feature-film-sized budget pitched along with it.

Ruggable review: quick summary

If you are looking for beautiful designs and practical features for your home, then a Ruggable rug is the way to go.

They are not only stylish but also washable, making them a firm favourite for homes with children, pets, and high-traffic areas.

The ability to easily clean a rug is a game-changer. No longer do I fear red wine blunders or the sound of my dog retching in the distance, because it’s as easy as taking the rug off its Velcro pad and throwing it in the machine.

With a plethora of high-profile collaborations and the option to personalise your rug with a standard or cushioned pad, there is a Ruggable rug for every design style and need.

Whether you’re following your Architectural Digest dreams or Iris Apfel aspirations, you’ll find a gorgeous option.

The installation can be a little annoying for the larger sizes but the work is worth it ten times over when you take a step back and look at your space.

Rated 5/5, these rugs are worth the investment if you like a cosy but clean space.

Ruggable review: full review

Opening and first impressions

a rug is rolled up on a wooden floor
Aaron Dowler
My rug came neatly rolled up, with no visible crease lines when unravelled[/caption]

Ruggable’s rugs are made and shipped in the UK and each one is made to order.

My rug took 13 business days to arrive, which wasn’t a hardship, and Ruggable manages expectations well by stating that orders will take 2-4 weeks.

It came neatly rolled inside the box with the standard mat rolled and the rug cover folded.

Impressively, despite the rug cover being folded, there were no crease lines or indents on the fold — when it was unravelled you wouldn’t even notice that it had a long folded commute to my house.

One small thing I did notice was a very slight residue on the rug cover, almost like the slight tackiness you’re left with after using a bad hand sanitiser.

However, this wore off after a few days, and was completely gone after the first wash.

Predictably, the instant I unpacked the rug my dog got zoomies and scratched the rug; when I tried to rub the scratch off with my sock, I did notice a bit of colour transfer.

This was easily remedied after the first wash, though, and you could convincingly argue that I shouldn’t be using my white socks as a fabric brush.

To be safe, if you wear a lot of white or own a dog prone to fits of energy, I’d recommend washing the rug as soon as you take it out of the box.

Installation

a getting started guide for a rug is laid out
Aaron Dowler
Although installation is tricky, Ruggable does provide clear instructions[/caption]

Being a bit of a perfectionist, I found the installation of the larger rug to be a little tricky.

The process is a bit like putting on a tempered glass phone screen, where you have to push out any pesky air bubbles.

You roll out the standard mat, line up the rug cover with the corners and slowly roll down, pressing out any creases or bubbles as you go.

The larger the rug, the harder it was to get it perfectly aligned; after the first few rolls, I found that the rug was wonky by the time I got down to the tail end, and being Velcro, it’s a little fiddly to roll back up.

Patience is a virtue here and it pays to take your time.

Washing the doormat

Aaron Dowler
Having an easy-to-wash doormat is a game changer — they get dirty so quickly[/caption]

I was pleasantly surprised by the doormat — they get grimy and dirty unbelievably quickly, so it was nice to be able to freshen them up.

After a few months outside my house, it was time for the first wash. As instructed, I peeled the rug off from the rubber mat, gave it a shake and  put it in the washing machine on a cool wash.

Call me extra, but I also added scent boosters, so for a few days after washing, it released a little burst of gold orchid whenever someone stood on it.

I also wiped the rubber lining down with Zoflora for a bit of extra pizazz.

After the wash, I was impressed that it didn’t come out soaking wet, which can sometimes happen when washing rugs or blankets.

I left it in the garden to dry fully and put it back out front, good as new. It dried in about half a day in mild English weather.

Washing the rug

Aaron Dowler
As you can see, the 185 x 275cm Ruggable rug fits easily into a standard drum washing machine[/caption]

After the ease of washing the doormat, I was intrigued to see how a larger rug would compare.

After being down in my study for a few months, it was time for its first wash. My little dog likes to sit in the study with me while I work, so the rug has been used as a bed numerous times.

I was surprised by how thin the rug felt once separated from the base and folded to fit in the machine — it’s more comparable to washing a duvet set than anything else.

I put it on a cold wash with some scent boosters and patiently waited.

I did have to give it an extra spin once it was finished as it retained a bit of water, but I tend to do that with a normal load anyway, to minimise drying time.

It came out smelling divine, and with no noticeable colour loss; it was still the same vibrant floor tapestry as before the spin.

The material dried extremely quickly simply hung over a door (I considered putting it out on the line to dry but was concerned about the sun fading the beautiful colours).

FAQs

How to wash Ruggable rugs

For flat woven rugs, Ruggable recommends placing the rug design inside out in a standard drum washing machine and washing on a cold delicate cycle using a non-bleach-based mild detergent.

You can then tumble dry on a low heat or hang outside to line dry.

Ruggable recommends adding 118ml of white vinegar to your detergent in the fabric softener draw to help neutralise pet odours. There is also a separate set of tips for pre-wash stain removal here.

For roormats, Ruggable suggests the below technique for maintenance.

  1. Sweep: for everyday maintenance, sweep or shake the Doormat Cover to get rid of dirt, dust, and loose debris.
  2. Spray: you may also rinse the Doormat Cover with a garden hose.
  3. Machine wash: for thorough cleaning, machine-wash the Cover in cold water using a mild and non-bleach detergent.
  4. Machine or air dry: tumble-dry on air fluff mode or lay flat to air dry.

Cleaning the rubber part of the mat is also easy enough; simply hose it down with soap and water and leave to air dry.

Are Ruggable rugs good quality?

Yes, Ruggable rugs are excellent quality.

While they feel thin underfoot when separated from the mat, they feel substantial when put together, and you can also opt for a cushioned under-pad if you plan on using the rug in a playroom (or just fancy a little more comfort).

I opted for the standard pad as I wanted even clearance for a door to open over the top.

Can you buy Ruggable in stores?

Ruggable isn’t available in stores as all rugs are made to order.

However, as well as being available through Ruggable’s official site, you can purchase rugs from retailers including John Lewis.

Can you buy Ruggable without the pad?

Yes — If you already have a pad and just want to change the design, there’s an option to buy just the rug.

How long does Ruggable take to ship?

As all rugs are made to order, they can take 2-3 weeks to arrive. Mine came in 13 business days.

How to wash a large Ruggable rug

Ruggable recommends taking rugs sized 245 x 305 cm and above to a launderette with a large capacity washing machine as it won’t fit in a regular machine. Once you’re at the launderette, you simply wash the rug as normal.

For rugs 275 x 365 cm and smaller, a standard washing machine drum is fine.

The verdict: are Ruggable rugs worth it?

“Do I think that a Ruggable rug is worth it? Absolutely.”[/caption]

Do I think that a Ruggable rug is worth it? Absolutely.

If you have a high-traffic household, pets, or little ones then you’ll be grateful to be able to wash the rug after an accident.

The range of designs is also unparalleled so whether you’re minimalist or maximalist, Scandi or scary, there will be a design that you’ll fall in love with.

Yes, the price is high, but I can tell you from experience that the price of replacing a rug after spilling a (large) glass of red wine on it is pretty high as well.

Dominic Solanke repays his backers’ loyalty with 21-point splurge – time for doubters to backtrack?

DOMINIC SOLANKE (£4m) was the weekend’s biggest winner from a Dream Team perspective.

The Tottenham striker scored two goals in the space of four minutes on his way to a massive 21-point haul against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Solanke was also credited with a ‘fantasy assist’ by stats providers Opta as he won the free-kick that was expertly converted by James Maddison (£4.6m) in stoppage time.

Gameweek 10 is not done yet but at this stage the 27-year-old is the top performer.

This points splurge couldn’t have come at a better time for Solanke’s backers as their patience has been tested in recent weeks.

He mustered just 16 points from six outings prior to his brace against the Villains and, for all his neat link-up play and tireless running, his lack of threat in the penalty area was a notable issue.

In fact, Solanke didn’t register a single shot on target in the six games leading into Sunday’s performance.

Solanke produced a composed finish to end his goal drought[/caption]

Almost 10% of Dream Team managers will be hoping his latest showing will kickstart a fruitful spell in front of goal – he bagged 21 in all competitions for Bournemouth last season.

Gaffers who replaced Solanke prior to Gameweek 10 will obviously be kicking themselves but it was a perfectly logical decision to move away from a striker without a single shot on target in his last six games.

The Dream Team gods can be kind but they can also be cruel.

The question now is worthy it’s a sensible move to bring the England striker back into the fold?

Spurs are due to host 18th-placed Ipswich in Gameweek 11, one of just two top flight sides without a league win in 2024/25.

Only Wolves have conceded more goals than the Tractor Boys at the time of writing and so it has to be considered an immensely favourable fixture for Solanke and company next weekend.

Gameweek 12 brings a tougher test in the form of Manchester City and Roma but there’s an international break to endure before then.

It’s amazing how quickly things can change in Dream Team; Spurs’ No19 looked to be a sensible sell just a few days ago but now has to be considered a strong option for the upcoming Gameweek.

It’s early days but Solanke is currently the most transferred-in player for Gameweek 11.

Spurs have won nine of their last 11 games[/caption]

More broadly, Spurs are now top scorers in the Premier League this season.

This combined with a perfect start of three wins in three Europa League games indicates there’s certainly value to be had among Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

Brennan Johnson (£3.8m), James Maddison (£4.6m) and Dejan Kulusevski (£3.1m) are all among the top 13 Dream Team midfielders while Solanke is up to fourth among strikers.

Plus, Son Heung-min (£5.3m) averages eight points-per-game so far this campaign.

Airlines issue passenger travel warning for Spanish airport following flash floods

AIRLINES have warned passengers to not travel to a major Spanish airport following huge flooding.

Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport was left submerged with water earlier today following flash floods.

The floods have already resulted in 70 cancelled flights[/caption]

Spanish airport operator Aena confirmed that 70 flights have been cancelled to and from Barcelona‘s airport.

Another 18 have been diverted.

A statement on social media from the airport operator warned travellers to check with their airline for a flight update.

The following flights from the UK to Barcelona have also been cancelled:

  • 3:50pm British Airways from Manchester

The following UK to Barcelona flights have been delayed:

  • 3:55pm British Airways from London Gatwick
  • 4:15pm easyJet from Liverpool
  • 5:25pm easyJet from London Gatwick
  • 5:35pm British Airways from London Gatwick

These delays and cancellations will also cause a knock on effect to the Barcelona flights returning to the UK with the following delayed:

  • 3:35pm British Airways to London Heathrow
  • 3:40pm British Airways to London CityFlyer
  • 4:50pm easyJet to Liverpool
  • 5:10pm British Airways to London Heathrow

An easyJet spokesperson told Sun Travel that passengers are being advised to allow plenty of time to get to the airport.

This is because a number of motorways have been flooded across Barcelona, with train serviced cancelled.

They said: “While our flying programme at Barcelona is currently operating, due to adverse weather conditions in the area we are advising customers to check local travel advice, leave plenty of time to get to the airport and check our flight tracker for the most up to date information on their flights.

“The safety and wellbeing of customers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority and while this is outside of our control, we are sorry for any inconvenience caused by the weather.”

A Ryanair spokesperson also said: “Affected passengers will be notified and any passengers travelling to/from Spain on Mon 04 Nov should check their Ryanair app for the latest updates on their flight.

“We regret any inconvenience caused to passengers by these weather conditions, which are outside of Ryanair’s control and affect all airlines operating to/from Spain Mon 04 Nov.”

The Sun has also contacted BA for comment.

The Sun's Head of Travel on what this means for holidaymakers

The Sun’s Lisa Minot, Head of Travel, has explained what this will mean for passengers affected by the Spanish cancellations

ASTONISHING images of runways turned to rivers and water gushing into Barcelona’s modern airport terminal are a shocking reminder of the brutal force of nature.

Coming just days after the devastating rainfall and flooding that claimed the lives of hundreds in Valencia and surrounding towns and villages, it will heap yet more pressure onto the Spanish authorities to get a grip on the impact of the storms.

Barcelona is one of the busiest airports in Spain, with 41.6million passengers travelling through it each year it is second only to Madrid.

The inevitable chaos that will come as a result of the airport closure will see hundreds of thousands of traveller’s plans ruined.

While the atrocious conditions have led to a large number of cancellations and delays, passengers unfortunately cannot claim compensation.

As the problem was out of the airline – or anyone else’s control – there is none due but airlines do have a duty of care to look after you.

You should expect to receive food and drink vouchers and a way to communicate should your delay be longer than two hours.

And if your flight has been cancelled altogether, your airline should be booking you onto the next suitable flight that will get you to your destination as soon as possible, even if that involves another company.

The delays and cancellations are until the end of the day at least[/caption]

A red alert “extreme danger” warning is in place across Barcelona with people warned not to travel “unless strictly necessary.”

It comes after more than 200 people were killed after flooding in Valencia last week.

The UK Foreign Office has since updated their travel advice for Spain.

The website reads: “Severe weather and flooding is affecting many areas of Southern and Eastern Spain, particularly the Valencia region and Castilla La Mancha. Journeys may be affected.

“Check the latest weather warnings from Spain’s meteorological office before you travel and follow instructions from local authorities.

Female NBA fan goes viral after X-rated gesture on fan cam during NBA game

A FEMALE basketball fan went viral after performing an enthusiastic X-rated gesture on the fan cam.

But the dance took a somewhat more NSFW turn just moments later[/caption]

However, after realising she was on the jumbotron in front of 20,000 fans at the Ball Arena, things took a somewhat NSFW turn.

Moving on from her bouncy moves, the female fan decided to up the ante by simulating a sex act.

Incredibly, the arena’s camera crew decided to continue focusing on her for an excruciating five seconds before finally moving on.

The next few groups of supporters featured on the fan cam were seen covering their mouths or laughing out of shock.

The video quickly went viral on social media, with viewers commenting in their thousands on X.

One wrote: “LMFAO why they keep the cam on her for that long?”

Clearly referencing ‘Hawk Tuah‘ – another X-rated viral moment in recent US history – another joked: “If the internet has taught me anything this lady is going to have her own top 3 podcast in about a month.”

A third said: “She’s def single… but not for long.”

Another called the ending to the dance routine an “M. Night Shyamalan twist”.

One joked: “Denver prob has the best fans in the league.”

The viral supporter had all the more reason to celebrate later in the evening, too, as the hometown Nuggets won 129-103.

The Nikola Jokic-inspired victory moved the 2022-23 NBA champions to 3-3 on the year, with the Jazz still the only winless team in either conference – now 0-6 for 2024-25.

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, Mr Dampier outlined how successful His Majesty’s Australia tour was last month.

He continued: “I would have thought a trip to the States would be a great thing as well.

“Whoever gets in… Trump seems to be very fond of the King. Obviously he’d like to have him.

“That would be enormous, if the King and Queen went to America.

“They’ve got to pace themselves, it depends on how well he is. I imagine the next place will be Canada.

“I’m sure that will be next, he loves Canada.”

It comes as the US Elections draw to a close in less than 24 hours, as opposing candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump battle it out in their swing-states.

Over 78 million people in the US have cast their ballots already in an incredible show of early voting.

Trump and Harris are currently making a last-ditch attempt to tour “Ground Zero” Pennsylvania – before voters head to the polls tomorrow.

Meanwhile Trump’s wife Melania and son Barron have been snapped making their way to the family’s Florida resort Mar-a-Lago.

Across the pond, King Charles and Queen Camilla have been on their Australia and Samoa visits across the past weeks.

Jake Paul’s own coach admitted he CAN’T beat Mike Tyson in newly emerged footage ahead of mega Netflix fight

JAKE PAUL’S own boxing coach told him that he had no chance of beating Mike Tyson.

Paul takes to the ring with Iron Mike next week as the pair battle it out live on Netflix.

Jake Paul’s own team told him he couldn’t beat Mike Tyson[/caption]

The fight has garnered plenty of attention, not least because of the shock of a 58-year-old Tyson is coming out of retirement.

But one person who isn’t shocked is Jake Paul, who seemingly manifested this fight back in 2021 – albeit without the support of one of his coaches.

In a video posted on Paul’s social media, the 27-year-old internet personality seemingly came up with the “crazy idea” to take on Mike Tyson over three years ago.

Ahead of his third ever pro fight, a win over Ben Askren, Paul said to his coaches: “I just came up with a crazy idea. Do you think I can beat Mike Tyson?”

But it was clear that back then his team had little confidence that he could get the better of the former undisputed world heavyweight champion.

Paul was greeted with a blunt response from one coach, who simply laughed and said: “F*** no!”

But Paul even showed ambition for the fight all those years ago, asking: “Not even in a year from now?”

His team were firm that they didn’t fancy his chances, explaining: “Mike Tyson just got s*** he knows how to do bro that’s just… he’s just a dog.”

Paul’s team certainly seem to have faith in him now with the mega-money fight now just a matter of days away.

Since that day, Paul has won a further eight fights – losing just once at the hands of Tommy Fury.

While Tyson hasn’t stepped into the pro ring since 2005, and hasn’t won since 2003.

Paul certainly appears confident ahead of the Texas dance, posting the clip alongside a caption that read: “The Gods always knew, 12 days to destiny.

“Three and a half years ago my team laughed at my idea to fight Mike Tyson.

“My own coach told me I had no chance to beat the man. They say impossible, I say let’s find out.”

Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson’s lifestyles compared

ONE is a notorious YouTuber-turned-boxer who has taken the sport by storm.

The other terrorised all in the ring in the 1980s and 1990s, famously biting the ear off an opponent in one fight.

Iron Mike has rebuilt his life after squandering a £300m fortune with a cannabis empire, and is a huge advocate of the drug.

And as Paul has continued to rise up the ranks, he has splashed the cash on a fleet of amazing cars.

Whereas Tyson had more money than sense until a £15m debt saw him part with his cherished car collection.

Paul now lives in a plush mansion worth £13m in Puerto Rico, after escaping his hectic life in LA.

But these days, Tyson lounges in his Vegas property he paid £2.5m for with wife Lakiha, who he married in 2009.

Paul is not yet married but is smitten with his speed skater girlfriend  Jutta Leerdam.

She will be by his side when her man puts his 9-1 boxing record on the line against two-time heavyweight champ Tyson on July 20.
