Britain’s best pint of beer has been revealed[/caption]This competition is one of the most coveted and well-respected competitions in the world and can put the winner firmly in the national and international spotlight.
All beers must be nominated by individual CAMRA members and a tasting panel.
They then compete in regional competitions using a strict blind tasting policy.
There are seven judging categories:
- Mild
- Session bitter
- Premium bitter
- IPAs
- Session pale, blond and golden ales
- Premium pale, blond and golden ales
- Winter round winners
The shortlist has been whittled down and one winner was crowned at a ceremony in Newark on Wednesday.
Crouch Vale’s Amarillo was named the overall winner after a hard-fought final round of judging.
It has an ABV of 5% and is made with American hops.
The beer was described by Christine Cryne, the judging panel organiser, as having “a tangy aroma with a faint note of biscuit”.
She added: “The flavour is full of tropical and citrus notes on a sweet biscuit base. Dry sweetish bitter finish. A full flavoured beer.”
Christine described it as a “commendable winner, worthy of the respected title despite exceptionally strong competition”.
Brewery directors Colin and Fiona Bocking said they were “delighted” to have bagged the award after previously winning it in 2005 and 2006.
The beer can be bought through the brewery’s website or at a selection of pubs and farm shops across the UK.
Eight 500ml bottles are available for £20.26 on the Crouch Vale website.
Silver prize winner was the IPA from Anspach and Hobday, which has a 6% ABV.
Judges said it is a “wonderful fruity new world IPA”.
It has aromas of citrus and tropical fruit which are “perfectly balanced by the bitterness, leading to a dry, spicy finish.”
It can be bought online through the brewery’s website.
In bronze was the Trawlerboys Best Bitter from Green Jack Brewery, which has an ABV of 4.6%.
It was described by judges as being an “attractive orangey brown beer with a honey biscuit nose”.
Judges said it is “complex and very drinkable”.
It is available on the Green Jack website.
Laura Emson, CAMRA’s Awards Director, said: “Crouch Vale should be incredibly proud of this accolade, and I hope that beer lovers across the UK will seek out and try Amarillo out for themselves.”

Millions of BT customers must check their accounts NOW or risk losing precious photos ahead of service closure
BT Broadband customers have just days to check their accounts for precious memories stored on a forgotten web service before it’s too late.
The telecoms giant is shutting down its BT Cloud offering, which allows users to back-up their photos and videos at no extra cost.
BT Cloud is closing on October 31 – and all files will be removed[/caption]While most people may now use iCloud or Google Drive, it might be worth checking there aren’t any old photos or videos stored on the platform.
As from October 31, they will be deleted.
BT says the shake-up has come about because demand has “dropped significantly”.
The firm warned customers about the move in July.
And at the time some did not take the announcement well.
“My contract ends in October, so time to move to another ISP,” one affected customer wrote online in July.
New uploads were disabled on September 9, giving people a bit more time to access existing files only.
“Please make sure that you have moved any files that you want to keep to an alternative provider before BT Cloud closes,” BT’s website reads.
“You may see error messages when you try to access your files.
“This is because we’ve moved to read-only.”
Free cloud storage alternatives
While you won’t get as much storage as BT Cloud offered, there are plenty of free alternatives around to consider.
- Google Drive – 15GB
- Microsoft OneDrive – 5GB
- Apple iCloud – 5GB
- Amazon – 5GB
If you subscribe to Amazon Prime, you get free unlimited photo storage as part of your account, so this could be worth considering.
SAVE ON SUBSCRIPTIONS!
Here’s what The Sun’s tech expert Sean Keach says…
Subscriptions seem impossible to escape these days.
You’ll probably got half a dozen or even more – and it can be hard to give them up.
So bundling subscriptions is a very easy way to cut down on some costs.
Apple One is a great option if you’re already subscribing to Apple services.
And if you’re using Spotify, maybe switching to Apple Music via Apple One is a decent way to save some money.
More important is not overlooking the family sharing aspect of these subscriptions.
You can share services like Apple Music and Apple TV+ with up to five other people in your household.
That’s a potentially enormous saving that you definitely don’t want to miss out on.
If you’ve got multiple people in the house paying for the same Apple subscriptions, you’re literally throwing away money.
Grab an Apple One family plan and cut those bills right down.
And if you decide that you don’t like it, you can cancel at any time and go back to the old way.
So it’s worth trying, if only to see if you do end up saving any money.
‘You know when you know’ gushes MAFS’ Ella Morgan as she opens up about new boyfriend – and they’ve dropped the L word
ELLA Morgan has opened up about her new boyfriend, revealing that they have already said the L word.
The Married at First Sight star, 30, met her man Alex when she was appearing on Celebs Go Dating, and she has now told The Sun, “You know, when you know.”
Ella Morgan has opened up about her new man[/caption] The pair have been inseparable ever since meeting on the E4 reality show[/caption]The couple – who have been inseparable ever since meeting on the hit E4 reality show – spoke about how smitten she is, as she walked red carpet at this week’s Price of Britain Awards.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Ella Morgan said: “I’m very happy, I’m very content.
“He’s not like any of the other people I’ve been with. I feel like I want to pinch myself.
“I went on two dating shows, first one didn’t go well.
“I actually didn’t think anything would happen, this sounds so cringe, you know when you know.”
The Married at First Sight UK star previously revealed how “it was the worst kept secret” having to hide the pair’s relationship while Celebs Go Dating was airing.
Speaking to Daily Record, she shared: “Me and Alex are still together. I don’t know what it was, I couldn’t keep my mouth shut because I was just so happy.
“Even now I just tell random people, “this is my boyfriend Alex” or I’ll show them a picture of me and him.
“Even though they probably don’t care I still want to show him off anyway. I’m really happy and he’s really happy, well I hope he is anyway.”
The reality star added: “People still message and ask if we are still together and, well, I wouldn’t be posting about him if we weren’t.”
Meanwhile, Ella opened up about how Alex has adapted to her public lifestyle.
“I actually had a conversation with him when we finished filming Celebs Go Dating and I explained this was my kind of life and if he didn’t want to be part of it I would understand”, she revealed.
Continuing, Ella said: “I obviously didn’t want it to stop us from still being together because I know it’s probably a lot for him, but he’s taken it really well and come to events and he is enjoying it.
“I don’t think it’s necessarily something he would want to do for himself – he’s happy to be on the sidelines.”
She also addressed how “supportive” fans have been of her new relationship.
Ella remarked: “Most of the comments have been so supportive on my new relationship and it has been so lovely.
“I think people just wanted me to find someone whether they watched me on MAFS or Celebs and now I’ve found someone people just love that I’ve found love – and it’s so nice.”
The star added: “He’s coped with it really well and we have a really honest and open relationship where we communicate how we feel about certain things.
“If he ever doesn’t want to come to an event, he doesn’t have to and it’s always his choice, but I do like having him there with me.”
A source previously told The Sun: “Ella and Alex have been inseparable since they met on Celebs Go Dating and have remained together since filming wrapped in July.
“They’ve finally made their relationship official after Ella brought Alex as a plus one to a number of recent high-profile events, such as the Married at First Sight launch.
“Ella has told pals how happy she is and how Alex has made her laugh and feel safe compared to any other man she’s dated.
“He identities as a straight man and just sees Ella for her, as a woman, rather than a label and has been really supportive of her.
“They’ve talked about falling in love and see a future together. Ella has even introduced Alex to her family, as has he.”

ERIK TEN HAG admits he is in denial about Manchester United’s 3-0 home hammering by Tottenham.
That late-September drubbing sent the Red Devils into meltdown and left Ten Hag on the brink of the sack.
Erik ten Hag is in denial about Manchester United’s 3-0 home hammering by Spurs[/caption] Bruno Fernandes was initially sent off[/caption] Defeat left Ten Hag facing the sack[/caption]Old Trafford skipper Bruno Fernandes was sent off in the first half with United one goal down — but his red card was later rescinded.
Even though Spurs were running rings around United when they had 11, deluded boss Ten Hag says he ignores the result. The Dutchman said: “I deny that game.
“I ignore that game against Spurs because we were down to ten with a 1-0 losing position and then the red card was overturned.
“That is not a fair assessment because we didn’t have the chance to bounce back.
“Everyone agreed it was not the right decision, that it was an injustice and it is also an injustice to assess the team on that performance.”
Ten Hag’s side are unbeaten in four games since that Spurs defeat.
He added: “You see this team is resilient.
“Against Brentford but also in the two tough away games in Europe — Porto and Fenerbahce — this team has character and showed fighting spirit and determination to win.”
Man Utd ratings vs Fenerbahce: Onana saves the day for Red Devils as Lindelof has a stinker
MANCHESTER UNITED were held to a 1-1 draw by Fenerbahce on a disappointing night in Turkey.
Christian Eriksen broke the deadlock for Erik ten Hag’s side in the first half before En-Nesyri levelled soon after the break.
Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands in the second half after a touchline tantrum.
But the Red Devils could find a much-needed winner for Erik ten Hag.
SunSport’s Emillia Hawkins rates the performances…
Andre Onana – 7
Made an outstanding double save in the 37th minute to keep two attempts from Youssef En-Nesyri out.
His defenders could’ve done much better to prevent Fenerbahce’s goal.
Diogo Dalot – 5
Failed to track back at times and had his blushes saved in the first half by Ugarte, who made a crucial tackle on Dusan Tadic to prevent a goal.
Matthijs de Ligt – 6
Made some good blocks during the first half to keep Fenerbahce at bay.
Missed a few chances from set-pieces after the break.
Victor Lindelof – 4
Failed to follow En-Nesyri for Fenerbahce’s opening goal and made no attempt to win the ball.
Hauled off in the 54th minute.
Lisandro Martinez – 5
Like Lindelof, he did not apply any pressure to En-Nesyri for the hosts’ first goal. Poor communication from both.
Christian Eriksen – 7
Broke the deadlock for United with a great strike into the top-left corner from the edge of the box.
Manuel Ugarte – 6
Won the ball in the build-up to the first goal and saved Man Utd from conceding with a fantastic last-ditch tackle in front of goal in the 22nd minute.
Was lucky to avoid giving away a penalty after the break.
Noussair Mazraoui – 6
Didn’t look too out of place starting in the No10 position. Played a role in the build-up to the goal, passing the ball to Zirkzee who got the assist.
Eventually moved into left-back, allowing Martinez to move central.
Marcus Rashford – 5
Played out of preferred position and started on the right as opposed to the left.
Didn’t make too much of an impact on the game.
Alejandro Garnacho – 6
Played a key role in the build-up to Erikson’s goal by making a direct run into the box.
Challenged Dominik Livakovic a few times and looked lively.
Joshua Zirkzee – 5
A poor overall performance from the striker despite providing the assist for Eriksen’s opener.
Failed to make much of an impact and was hauled off in the 54th minute.

Ahead of tomorrow’s trip to West Ham, Ten Hag bemoaned the injuries which have hampered his Old Trafford reign.
With Antony taken off on a stretcher at the end of Thursday’s 1-1 draw in Istanbul, he is likely to have NINE players out.
Ten Hag, whose side sit 12th in the table, said: “That holds us back in our levels. And also in our position in the league.”
Manuel Ugarte, 23, was impressive midweek in a rare start in the midfield holding role following his £42.3million move from Paris Saint-Germain.
But Ten Hag says the Uruguayan still needs time to settle at Old Trafford.
He added: “The No 6 position is a key position in your team, and he has to learn this position in our game model.
“He came late in the window and then we had to integrate him and that takes time.”
