Four winter warming drinks you can brew in your slow cooker
BONFIRE night calls for cosy gatherings and hot drinks.
But did you know you can use your slow cooker to brew tasty tiples?
We have four winter warming drinks you can brew in your slow cooker[/caption]Here are four easy, budget-friendly ideas for classic winter warmers. . .
GLUHWEIN: To make this, pour a bottle of fruity red vino into your slow cooker.
Add 50g sugar, two cinnamon sticks, five cloves, two star anise, and the zest and juice of one orange to infuse warmth and spice.
Set the slow cooker to low for about two hours, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar fully.
Just remember not to let it boil — gentle heat keeps the flavours and alcohol intact.
Once it’s ready, ladle the Gluhwein into mugs and garnish with a slice of orange.
MULLED CIDER: Start by pouring two litres of apple cider into the slow cooker.
Add four cinnamon sticks, six cloves, two star anise, and a sliced red apple for a festive look.
If you want to enhance the flavour, toss in a few ginger slices and a small drizzle of honey.
Set the cooker to low and let it heat for 3-4 hours.
The slow infusion of spices will fill the cider with rich, warm flavours and, as a plus, it will make your home smell amazing.
HOT BUTTERED RUM: Start by combining 50g softened butter, 50g brown sugar, a teaspoon of cinnamon, half a teaspoon of nutmeg, and a pinch of cloves in a bowl.
Add this mixture to the slow cooker along with three mugs of water and one mug of dark rum, stirring until the butter mixture is dissolved.
Set the cooker to low and let it heat for 1–2 hours.
Once it’s ready, ladle the mixture into mugs and serve with whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon.
CHAI: Begin by adding four mugs of water, four black tea bags, two cinnamon sticks, four cloves, four cardamom pods, and a one-inch slice of fresh ginger to your slow cooker.
Set it to low and let it infuse for one to two hours.
After the spices have steeped, remove the tea bags and add two mugs of milk along with honey to taste.

Chelsea ace Enzo Fernandez eyed by TWO European giants for shock transfer after £107m midfielder loses starting XI spot
TWO European giants are prepared to make an audacious swoop for Enzo Fernandez – whose future at Chelsea is growing increasingly unclear.
The Argentine was a shock admission from the Londoners lineup for their weekend clash against Manchester United.
Enzo Fernandez was left out of Chelsea’s XI against Man Utd on Sunday[/caption] The Argentine is being eyed by two European giants[/caption] Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca insists Fernandez remains in his plans[/caption]Manager Enzo Maresca opted for Moises Caicdeo and Romeo Lavia instead saying he prefers their physicality.
But the snub leaves a huge question mark over Fernandez’s future at the club.
SunSport understands the midfielder is determined to fight for his place at Chelsea.
But a source said he has no intention of sitting on the bench for months on end if he falls down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
And Inter Milan and Barcelona – two of Europe’s biggest clubs – are now both monitoring the situation.
The midfielder has copped flak ever since Chelsea signed him from Benfica for a British record £107million in 2023.
TalkSPORT host Rory Jennings claimed recently that he should “never play for Chelsea again” and that he is potentially the “worst” signing in Premier League history.
But Maresca has publicly spoken about the sympathy he has for Fernandez’s struggles to live up to his price tag, not least given the turmoil in his personal life.
FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS
Fernandez, 23, recently split from his childhood sweetheart Valentina Cervantes to live on his own – despite them having a daughter and son together.
Maresca said ahead of Chelsea’s clash with United: “They are human beings and if you pay £100m that is not my problem.
“You want to buy me then you pay that money.
“That does not mean that every game you have to be the best.
“At the end of the day they are football players and they cannot always be at the top level.
The Argentine international recently split from his partner[/caption]Chelsea player ratings vs Man Utd
CHELSEA came from a goal down to rescue a point at Old Trafford.
Robert Sanchez brought down Rasmus Hojlund with 20 minutes remaining and Bruno Fernandes rolled in what looked to be a decisive spot kick.
But Chelsea hit back swiftly as Moises Caicedo’s sweet strike flew into the bottom corner.
Here is how SunSport’s Lloyd Canfield saw the performances of the Chelsea players in the 1-1 draw…
Robert Sanchez – 3
Made a few really good saves in the first half, and was much improved after a poor performance last time out against Newcastle.
That was until he gave away a reckless penalty on Rasmus Hojlund, which was easily dispatched by Bruno Fernandes.
His mistakes are starting to cost Chelsea time after time.
Malo Gusto – 2
Got in good positions in the first half, but was often wasteful when he got there.
Was booked for a late challenge on Manuel Ugarte, before being hooked for Cucurella at half-time after an awful overall showing.
Wesley Fofana – 6
A strong performance at the back was marred only by the Frenchman letting Rasmus Hojlund escape him before winning a penalty for his side.
Showed brilliant recovery pace throughout the game, and made some crucial challenges too.
Levi Colwill – 6
That was a strong defensive showing from the Chelsea number 6.
For a player with a passing range as impressive as his is, it would’ve been nice to see him use it more as Chelsea looked for a goal.
Reece James – 5
Improved this week, but still showed signs of rustiness as he gave the ball away in dangerous positions a few times.
More effective on the right side in Malo Gusto’s position, and more comfortable there as expected with Marc Cucurella on the left.
Another 90 minutes in the tank is fantastic news for Chelsea fans.
Moises Caicedo – 9
Scored a certain contender for goal of the month with a sensational volley from the edge of the box to level the scoring for his side.
Effective in breaking up play for the Blues once more, and showed why he is worthy of the £100m price tag Chelsea paid for him.
Romeo Lavia – 8
Another impressive midfield performance from the Belgian, who shows prowess beyond his years on and off the ball.
Seems the perfect pivot partner for Moises Caicedo, and people need to start talking about how Manchester City let him go for peanuts.
Noni Madueke – 6
Unfortunate to hit the post in the 13th minute with a header following a corner.
Worked hard defensively throughout the game too, but was unable to really put his creative abilities to the test.
Cole Palmer – 7
In the first half, his signature ‘Palmer touch’ got the away supporters off their feet, and he was Chelsea’s most creative outlet on the day.
Unable to add another goal or assist to his impressive tally this season, but still had a solid showing.
Pedro Neto – 5
Showed flashes of brilliance on the left-hand side, and came close with a shot across goal in the second half.
Was moved to the right-hand side in the second half, but it was much of the same from there.
Nicolas Jackson – 5
Pretty invisible up front for Chelsea today.
Worked hard and tracked back well when required to, but fans were left confused as to why Christopher Nkunku was left on the bench.
In fairness to him, could’ve had an assist if Enzo Fernandez could finish his dinner.
Subs
Marc Cucurella (for Gusto, 46 mins) – 5
A solid showing on the left-hand side. Chelsea look a better team with him in the 11.
Mykhailo Mudryk (for Madueke, 70 mins) – 4
Tried to light things up on the left hand side, but his spark wasn’t enough to win the game for his side.
Enzo Fernandez (for Lavia, 70 mins) – 2
Missed an absolute sitter which would have won his team the game after coming on. Looks very short on confidence.

“At this moment Enzo is not playing but there is no problem with Enzo.
“The noise about Enzo is because clubs pay so much money for them, people expect they will always be the best. That is not so.
“The only reason he is not playing is just because the physicality I prefer is from (Moises) Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.”
Ruben Amorim wants Man Utd to re-sign star they let go for just £5million, fears former Portugal star
RUBEN AMORIM wants to sign a star Manchester United sold for just £5million, according to a Portuguese League champion.
Amorim, 39, will be the head coach at Old Trafford from November 11 when he leaves Sporting CP after four years at the club.
Ruben Amorim will make a move for an ex-Man Utd star, according to a five-time Portuguese league winner[/caption] Alvaro Carreras was sold by Man Utd for £5million in the summer after a number of loan deals[/caption] The 21-year-old can be brought back by the Red Devils for a cut-price fee[/caption]His time with the Lisbon-based outfit has seen him win two league titles, ending a 19-year title drought in the process with his 3-4-3 system.
United have had problems at full-back this season and for much of last season, with Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw both sidelined through injury.
It forced sacked manager Erik ten Hag into playing a variety of stars at left-back, with his options this season mainly being Diogo Dalot or Noussair Mazraoui.
Consequently, it is believed that when Amorim arrives he will look to add a profile who fits the left-wing back role in his team.
Five-time Portuguese League winner Álvaro Magalhães believes the star in question will be former Man Utd academy talent Alvaro Carreras.
Carreras, 21, initially joined the Red Devils academy in 2020.
However, the defender failed to break into the senior squad and after a succession of loan transfers was sold permanently to Benfica by Ten Hag over the summer following a season on loan with them.
Reports have since emerged revealing United included a 50 per cent sell-on clause and a cheap £16m buy-back clause in the deal.
BEST FREE BET SIGN UP OFFERS FOR UK BOOKMAKERS
And speaking to Record, the 63-year-old Benfica legend Magalhaes believes Amorim could make a move to take the star from his old rivals.
He said: “I fear that Rúben Amorim wants him at Manchester United. It seems to me that he has the quality to be one of the first options and looking at the squad.
“I believe that with the new coaching staff he could become a possibility again, especially because the new coach knows him very well based on what he saw from him at Benfica.
“It would be a lot if Benfica had the ability to not let him escape, but now the decision is not just in the club’s hands.”
He explained: “This ability to react to adversity seems to be his strength. Great players only succeed if they are mentally very strong and that seems to be the case.
“Anyone who is weak cannot play for Benfica, just as they cannot play for Real Madrid, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, or PSG.
Three Sporting stars Amorim could swoop for after joining Man Utd
RUBEN AMORIM has ruled out poaching any of his Sporting Lisbon players in the January transfer window.
But the Portuguese side’s chiefs expect Amorim will come calling in the summer – with his cheque book wide open.
Here’s are three Sporting starts United could swoop for… but they won’t come cheap:
VIKTOR GYOKERES
Age: 26
Position: Striker
Cost: £84million
Swede has shone since joining Sporting last summer from Coventry — catching the eye of all Europe’s top clubs.
Hit 43 goals in 50 games last season and boasts 18 strikes already this term.
GONCALO INACIO
Age: 23
Position: Defender
Cost: £50million
Ball-playing centre-back was handed his debut by Amorim and has since become a key figure in Sporting’s recent title successes.
Can also slot in at left-back if required and has 12 caps for Portugal.
MORTEN HJULMAND
Age: 25
Position: Midfield
Cost: £40million
Dane is one of the top holding midfielders in Portugal — and made skipper by Amorim.
He could be the man to replace Casemiro.
“If he were weak, he would have already been released from Benfica and would be demonstrating quality in another team.
“Benfica were in time to not lose one of those players that we must fight to keep at the club due to his quality.
“I hope he has a lot of luck and continues to have a great season.”
Carreras has played 14 times for Benfica so far this season, scoring once.
Amorim is in action with Sporting CP for the final time in the Champions League tomorrow as they face Manchester City.
His final game as the Eagles’ boss is then against another former club in Braga.
Man Utd ratings vs Chelsea
MARTIN BLACKBURN gives his verdict on the Red Devils against Chelsea
Andre Onana – 5
Will be disappointed not to keep out Caicedo’s equaliser.
Almost put Casemiro in trouble with sloppy early pass too
Noussair Mazraoui – 6
Key interception to prevent Neto getting in on goal late on and tried to support Garnacho where possible
Matthijs de Ligt – 6
Good early block to deny Palmer.
Late slip under pressure from Jackson almost proved costly.
Lisandro Martinez – 6
Lucky not to concede a pen with clumsy challenge on Colwill and lucky to escape a red for x-rated late tackle on Palmer.
Diogo Dalot – 6
Poor tackle on Pedro Neto earned a deserved booking and had a real battle with his international team-mate.
Casemiro – 7
Made a difference with super ball to Hojlund in lead up to pen – but could he have got more distance on clearing header that was despatched by Moises Caicedo.
Manuel Ugarte – 6
Rugby tackle on Palmer but Uruguayan showed signs he is starting to settle in after big money summer move.
Alejandro Garnacho – 6
Always a threat but wasted some great chances.
Shot straight at Sanchez and shanked another effort after great work by Fernandes.
Bruno Fernandes – 8
Created United’s best two chances for Rashford and Garnacho and then kept his cool to score from the spot.
Marcus Rashford – 6
Hit the angle with volley on stroke of half-time and saw another shot saved by Sanchez.
Better from the England man.
Rasmus Hojlund – 6
Did not touch the ball in the Chelsea box first half but when he finally did he won the penalty.
Subs
Amad Diallo (73′ for Rashford)
A couple of nice touches but not much impact.
Joshua Zirkzee (’84 for Hojlund)
A couple of nice touches but not much impact.
Victor Lindelof (’84 for Ugarte)
Thrown on to keep things tight and did that.
Sydnie Christmas reveals which Britain’s Got Talent judges’ she’s still in touch with as she attempts to crack America
LESS than a year ago, Sydnie Christmas was ready to give up on her dream of making it in music after setbacks caused her to fall out of love with the industry.
But a final throw of the dice in applying for Britain’s Got Talent saw her fortunes finally change – with the singer crowned champion of the ITV show earlier this summer.
Sydnie Christmas won Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year[/caption]Since then work has been coming thick and fast.
And her latest offer appears to have fallen straight out of a Hollywood film script.
Over the weekend Sydnie took to the stage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles to perform as part of music legend David Foster’s 75th birthday bash.
Alongside her on the bill was Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, five-time Grammy winner Michael Buble and Italian singing supremo Andrea Bocelli.
“When I walked into rehearsals and heard Jennifer I thought it was a C, then I saw her, someone I’ve idolised during my career, and I cried,” Sydnie tells Bizarre’s Jack Hardwick backstage.
“I was going to call it quits.
“I’d applied for BGT four times, but each time I would pull out of the process.
“It was my last chance.
“I was falling out of love with the industry.
“Now I’m here, it’s remarkable.”
During her trip to LA, Sydnie has hit the ground running – squeezing in everything from shooting a music video with The Greatest Showman’s Loren Allred, to a glamorous dinner with BGT judges Amanda Holden and Bruno Tonioli in West Hollywood.
And that’s all before she took to the stage at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday night.
Sydnie adds: “Amanda is so lovely to me.
“She is only a message away if I ever need her.
“It’s the same with Bruno.
“They both just want me to do well.
“They want what’s best.
“It’s lovely to have people believe in you like that.”
As she hangs out with me over the weekend, it’s clear to see Sydnie is laser focused on her career.
As we kill time in her dressing room, I can’t resist a glass or two of the free flowing white wine.
Sydnie on the other hand sticks to water and tea, including Twinning’s calming Camomile for her nerves.
“I will not drink until after the Hollywood Bowl performance and hopefully I’ll be celebrating,” Sydnie laughs.
“The one person I need to really impress is myself as I can be so nervous for one but also I can be so critical of myself.
“I want to take all of this in.
‘NOT RISKING IT’
“Then I’ll have a big glass of a vodka coke, that’s my go to but I also love red wine.”
She adds: “I’m not drinking to protect my voice.
“Alcohol dehydrates your vocals, I’m not risking it.
“Don’t get me wrong, a glass of red before bed but no more than one.”
While both have been on very different journeys, it’s hard not to compare rising star Sydnie to an early Adele.
Both have jaw-dropping vocals and personalities by the bucket load.
Stepping out on stage in front of a room full of intimidating billionaires and millionaires for David’s private birthday dinner at Fox Studios, Sydnie couldn’t resist cracking a joke and letting her personality shine throughout.
After David explained her back story and asked her to tell them “how she got here” she cheekily hit back “by plane”.
The room erupted with laughter and Sydnie later tells me: “Oh God, I forgot I said that.
“At least it didn’t fall flat.
“That would have been awkward.”
She’s clear though that her goofy tongue-in-cheek nature isn’t part of an act.
Later this month she will perform in front of The King at the Royal Variety Show at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
A Christmas single, naturally, is also on the cards.
‘LUCKY CHARM’
And next year Sydnie will embark on her first headline UK tour kicking off in Glasgow in February.
But she admits to me she can’t even predict what will happen beyond that.
Sydnie says: “The plan is with whatever opportunities I get to do the best I possibly can.
“That’s all I hope for.
“After this year I don’t really have a bucket list.
“So many things have happened to me that I didn’t think would happen.
“It’s all unbelievable.
“I don’t want a break.
“I’ve got a panto back home in Kent and then the tour. I want to hopefully constantly be in work.”
Though while she’s not certain where her career will take her, Sydnie is certain of one thing – whatever comes her way she will never let it go to her head.
Sydnie adds: “There is no way I’d turn into a diva.
“At the end of the day we are very lucky to be doing what we want to do.
“If you turn into someone horrible then who is going to want to work with you.
“I’ve learned you don’t know what can happen in a year.
“Next year may not be as good as this year but I don’t even want to think about it.
“I want to do the best I can with what comes my way.”
Sydnie also lets me into a little secret before heading out on stage to perform, she’s always carrying her lucky charm.
She beams: “I’ve got my Golden Buzzer flake from my first audition at BGT.
“I’m going to keep it with me.”
It’s safe to say it worked. She brought the house down.

JOEY Essex flirted with a stunning US TV host in a toe-curling interview shared to his social media, as he claimed he was “perfect husband material.”
Towie legend Joey announced his split from Love Island co-star Jessy Potts in September, and he now appears to living a new life in Los Angeles, while also signing up to celeb dating app Raya.
And in his latest TV appearance, Joey, 34, popped up on LA TV station KTLA to chat about his future plans as well as his time on Love Island.
The host of the show, Jasmine Simpkins, introduced Joey and said he’s “known for his charm.”
The four female hosts raved about Joey’s accent and asked him to keep talking.
Joey replied: “My name is Joey Essex, what are you saying?” he then complimented them all, telling them how beautiful they looked.
He could be seen wearing a black cardigan and white t-shirt but the panellists said he should probably just take off his cardigan, which led to Joey sitting with it half on, half off for the remainder of the interview.
Jasmine stroked Joey’s cardigan as he cheekily responded: “You like that one, yeah?”
Joey discussed how UK life is “hectic” due to the amount of people wanting to stop and take selfies with him.
He went on to say that he’s looking for a home in LA, but added that looking after in the UK is a lot to manage.
Adding that he was “perfect husband material,” Joey went on: “I clean my own house, my own clothes, my own dishes.”
The hosts joked: “Oh we’re so sorry.”
Joey also said that he’s still on the lookout for love, despite his recent split from blonde beauty Jessy.
He said going onto Love Island in the summer and shocking the nation was “quite exciting.”
Joey’s TV appearance over in the US comes after it was confirmed that the star, who previously signed up to dating service Huggle in 2022, can now be found on Raya, where his profile lists him as living in Dubai.
Jessy and Joey released a heartbreaking statement in September after things came to an end.
And just a few days ago Jessy, 25, was quizzed on potential regrets after meeting her ex on Love Island – in awkward scenes which saw her “steal” him away from his ex Grace Jackson.
The model launched a question and answer box on her Instagram page as she told fans she had time to answer questions during her trip to see her family.
One promptly asked: “Was going on Love Island worth it in your opinion?”
She was quick to respond: “Absolutely!
“It was the best thing I’ve ever done, without a doubt.
I had so much fun doing it, have been given incredible opportunities since leaving the villa and despite it not working on the outside, I did meet someone I liked and had the best summer ever with an amazing group of people.”
Joey and Jessy battled split rumours since leaving the villa, with their busy schedules meaning they were unable to spend time together.
Joey released a statement on their split and was first to tell us: “Unfortunately, we have decided to call an end to the relationship but I hope we can continue to be friends.
“I truly wish Jessy the very best with whatever she does in the future.”
Jessy then added: “I appreciate the Love Island experience I had with Joey, we tried to make it work but it wasn’t to be.
“I’m so grateful to everyone who supported us and look forward to all of the exciting opportunities ahead.”

A TEENAGER died of cancer after doctors mistook her symptoms for “university stress”, her mum says.
Isabel McEgan, 19, died in May 2020 after suffering symptoms including night sweats, heart palpitations, vomiting and extreme fatigue.
Isabel McEgan died in May 2020 after suffering symptoms including night sweats, heart palpitations, vomiting and extreme fatigue[/caption]Her mum Amanda says she took Isabel, from Merseyside, to see a doctor several times in 2018 and 2019.
Amanda says she and her daughter were generally told the symptoms were due to university stress, the BBC reports.
A tumour was found in Isabel’s jaw while she was working as a camp counsellor in the United States in mid-2019.
Her mum said that Isabel came home and underwent a full body scan which found “cancer everywhere” which was “almost certainly invurable at that point”.
Amanda says she thinks Isabel’s symptoms should have warranted more concern from GPs who might not have understood that they indicated cancer.
The condition can present differently in younger populations.
Amanda was wants a poster – developed by the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) – to be distributed to GP surgeries.
The graphic sets out how cancer can present in young people.
Amanda said: “I think if you’ve got teenagers who are presenting at GPs more than two, three times, that should immediately be a trigger that there must be something going on.
“Because the symptoms can be so random and also not appear too serious until you put them all together.”
An NHS spokesperson told The Sun: “All GPs should follow NICE guidance which includes details of the traffic light system to help identify childhood cancer, and the NHS is funding an early diagnosis platform which provides training and information to GPs and other healthcare professionals on the signs to look out for and when to refer.
“We also work closely with many cancer charities, including CCLG, to enhance our referral support tools, develop symptom awareness resources and improve the processes for diagnosis and treatment.”

Inside return of TV classic Bergerac as 80s detective drama comes back with iconic Triumph car and filming location
Bergerac fans have no doubt been nervous at how much might change ahead of the 80s show’s revival on UKTV with Damien Molony taking over from John Nettles.
But one character that hasn’t changed at all is the telly detective’s 1949 Triumph Roadster, which has been brought back in all its glory for the revamped series.
John Nettles might be missing from the Bergerac reboot as Damien Molony takes over – but the detective’s classic Triumph Roadster won’t be[/caption]The car, which is the same as the one used in the original series – even down to the registration plate – will feature in the upcoming series for U&Drama, which is due to air early next year.
Damien said of getting behind the wheel: “When people talk about Bergerac, two things immediately spring to mind: Jersey, and the car.
“We’ve recently wrapped on filming, and I’ve had the best time stepping into the role of Jim Bergerac – I’ve even had the privilege of getting behind the wheel of the iconic Triumph Roadster.
“We couldn’t have re-imagined this series without paying homage to the original, and the car beautifully bridges the two. I can’t wait to share it with the fans.”
Damien joins the likes of Pippa Haywood, Robert Gilbert, and Sasha Behar in the series.
Award-winning BBC Three series Our War will return for a one-hour special.
Marking ten years since the last documentary, which looked at the Afghanistan war, it will revisit some of the soldiers, to reflect on their lives back then, who they are now, and how the Army has shaped them.
Seann’s barking mad day
Seann Walsh’s neighbours were left concerned about his well-being after hearing him ‘barking like a dog’[/caption]Seann Walsh was left red-faced after his neighbours called to check in – because they were concerned about him barking like his dog.
The comedian had been testing out an anti-barking collar for his cockapoo, Mildred, on himself to make sure it wouldn’t shock her.
He told the Oh My Dog! podcast: “I tested it on myself. I put this thing on and to try to get it to work, it meant that I had to bark, so I was in my kitchen, barking.
“It wouldn’t work . . . so then I was just a 38-year-old man with a collar on, barking.
“Then I got a message in the WhatsApp group from the neighbours asking, ‘Is everything all right?’ and I had to tell them that it was me, and they didn’t respond. They left that one cold.”
Filming for the third series of BBC sitcom Here We Go has started this week. Creator Tom Basden was seen back on set with Jim Howick, Alison Steadman, and Tori Allen-Martin ahead of its return next year.
He said: “I’m thrilled to be reunited with our cast of comedy legends.”
