Much-loved pundit returns to Sky Sports five years after axe in major broadcasting change
CRICKET fans were delighted to hear the murmur of the great David Gower during England’s tour of Pakistan this month.
Gower has briefly returned to our Sky Sports feed after he was axed more than five years ago.
The cricket legend joined the world feed commentary for England’s three test matches in Pakistan.
Gower, 67, bid farewell to the Sky Sports commentary box after the conclusion of the fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval in 2019.
It came after Sky decided not to renew his contract.
He said he had been “retired” and pointed reference to “modern pressures” about what sort of person gets to have their face on telly.
He and Sir Ian Botham, who was also axed, had become synonymous covering England’s escapades on the cricket pitch for more than 20 years.
At the time, Gower OBE suggested “ageism” was at play but Bob Willis, 70, and David Lloyd, 72, were briefly kept on.
But Gower, who first forayed into his media experiences on 1990s comedy sports quiz show They Think It’s All Over, is now back on the mic.
Although Gower hasn’t been formally hired by Sky again, he has been gifting fans on the world feed commentary.

Sky is showing coverage from a Pakistan host broadcaster, for whom Gower is one talent booking.
The former England captain has worked in Pakistan regularly since leaving Sky.
Gower played 117 Test matches and 114 One Day Internationals, scoring 8,231 and 3,170 runs, respectively.
He first returned to commentary for BT Sport in the 2021–22 Ashes series.
The Kent-born former cricketer played for Leicestershire and Hampshire domestically.
Fans were delighted to hear him again, with one writing: “David Gower got to be the best test cricket commentator.”
A second said: “The last of the legends!”
Another added: “Is that the honourable Sir David Gower on commentary.”
Meanwhile, England are currently facing a tricky spell after Pakistan took a first-innings lead of 77, after being bowled out at 344 runs in the final Test.
The series is currently level at 1-1, after Pakistan won the second Test by 152 runs.
This came after England’s record breaking first Test, where Joe Root and Harry Brook set a new record for the highest Test Partnership in the nation’s history.
Historians BURY iconic classic car underground to create ‘car time capsule’ – before mistake saw it go horribly wrong
AN iconic classic car was buried deep underground some 50 years ago in a time capsule experiment gone wrong.
A 1957 Plymouth Belvedere, a well-known motor to US car fans for its vintage styling and performance, was once buried beneath the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
An iconic classic car buried deep underground some 50 years ago was unearthed in 2007[/caption] The motor in question was a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere[/caption]The retro motor, which was later known as ‘Miss Belvedere’, was buried during the height of Cold War tensions and was sealed in reinforced concrete to protect it from potential nuclear war.
Buried with the car was a number of items from the 1950s that “would help acquaint future generations with life in 1957″.
These included a container of fuel, a case of Schlitz beer, and random items typially found in a woman’s purse at the time, such as an unpaid parking ticket, bobby pins, cigarettes and matches, and a tube of lipstick.
In an event that drew national interest, it was finally removed from the ground in 2007, 50 years after it was buried.
However, the unearthing of the famous car was described as a “circus” that ended in bitter disappointment.
Seemingly, the concrete that the car had been enclosed in was not waterproof, meaning the Belvedere was found half submerged in groundwater when it was finally risen from the ground.
Despite being covered in plastic wrap, the car had easily become rotten over the years and was covered in a thick coating of rust, with even the interior wasting away.
The original plan had been for 2007 locals to fill the car with the gasoline provided to start it up, but this was no longer possible as the engine was beyond repair.
One witness said: “I was in Tulsa to witness the digging up of Miss Belvedere… a real circus.
“Items put in the glove compartment fell to the floor as the compartment disintegrated.
“Writings on the tire with a ballpoint pen were still legible, a glass five-gallon jar filled with gasoline was in the trunk.
“I guess that in 1957 someone thought gasoline would not be available in 2007.
“Boyd Coddington [American designer] and his team were there to start the car, did not happen.”
The car was originally supposed to be a prize that would go to a person who correctly guessed Tulsa’s population in 2007.
However, as the man who’d won the contest had died in 1979, the car went to his 101-year-old sister instead, who allowed for it to be taken by experts to attempt to remove the rust.
In 2015, Belvedere was taken to the Historic Auto-Attractions Museum of Illinois, where it was opened to public viewing in 2020.
This comes as a secret collection of 230 classic motors amassed over a period of 40 years was discovered in a warehouse and an abandoned church just last year.
The fleet of cars, which includes a Lancia Aurelia B20 and a Jaguar E-Type, was a mystery to the world until a fire broke out at the owner’s building.
Elsewhere, Jaguar are set to put their most famous and widely loved motor of all-time back in production.
The British firm will build two new E-Type models using the car’s original blueprints – 50 years after its retirement.
Sadly, the Plymouth was completely undriveable and covered in rust after years of being submerged in water[/caption]Watch Radio 5 clip of Tony Livesey and Clare McDonnell hinting at behind the scenes fall out MONTHS before feud revealed
FRICTION between Radio 5 presenters Tony Livesey and Clare McDonnell was obvious MONTHS before their off air fallout.
The Sun today revealed Tony sent an unkind message about Clare’s presenting skills to her by accident.
It has created chaos behind the scenes – with a massive reshuffle of the radio station’s schedule line-up revealed this month.
Hinting at tension behind the scenes while presenting earlier this year, Clare took a swipe at Tony after an awkward comment.
Talking about it being a “privilege” to sit alongside “uber professionals” such as sports commentators Russell Fuller and David Law, Tony was stopped in his tracks.
Clare cut in, remarking: “It’ll be good to work alongside professionals, for a change. I’m looking forward to it.”
Tony looked taken aback, replying: “Right, everyone’s having a go now, what’s happening?”
Clare laughed saying: “Oh that was an open goal.”
Tony added: “I’m going to say the time dramatically now and just hope everyone forgets what’s been said.”
Earlier this month it was confirmed the BBC would be making changes to the presenting roster – but radio bosses declined to explain why.
Clare, 57, who has presented the drivetime show on 5Live with Tony since February 2022, has refused to work with him again.
A source told us: “Clare received a message from Tony basically slagging her off and she was livid.
“She no longer wants to work with him and that has caused total chaos at the station.
“People are being shifted all over the shop and into different slots, which isn’t going down well.
“Clare is well within her right to be angry — but it’s made the atmosphere at 5 Live really frosty.
“It has become a nightmare there.”
Newly single Ellie Goulding flashes major side boob in daring outfit on night out after splitting from toyboy
SINGER Ellie Goulding celebrated her recent love split by showing off some skin, as she attended a Paris Hilton concert in Los Angeles.
Flanked by girlfriends including American sports illustrated model, Brooks Nader, 28, Ellie wore a stylish black jumpsuit which offered a daring side angle flash of her breasts.

The 37-year-old hit maker has recently split from her surf instructor boyfriend, Armando Perez who is eight years her junior.
They met at the beginning of the year when Goulding checked into a beach and yoga resort with two friends in the US and began taking surf lessons from Perez.
Speaking about their relationship, a source said: “’Amando and Ellie were very attracted to one another. Despite the age gap, they struck up an instant chemistry when he gave her private surfing lessons.
‘They soon formed a bond and loved spending time together – Ellie loved hanging out on the beach with Armando to get away from everything that was going on back home after her marriage had come to an end.’
But in the end it seems that their different work schedule and lifestyles eventually tore them apart.
“Armando was used to spending his days instructing in the water and running around barefoot in swim shorts, and was more comfortable enjoying his “quiet life” without the “drama” of being in the public eye,’ the source added.
Mother-of-one Ellie has been rediscovering single life since the collapse of her marriage to Eton-educated art dealer Caspar Jopling, with whom she has a 2-year-old son, last year.
The pair married in a lavish star studded ceremony at Yorkminster with guests including, Katie Perry and actor Orlando Bloom, Princesses Beatrice nad Eugenie and singer James Blunt.
After the pair were pictured without wedding rings and looking uncomfortable in each other’s company at the Serpentine Summer Party in June 2023, it later emerged that they had split up.
Formerly linked to Prince Harry, Ellie was introduced to Caspar, the son of former Tory MP, Michael Jopling, in 2017, through mutual friends.
They were a handsome couple, but the marriage did not last[/caption]Fans spot amazing moment Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall ‘apologises’ to Mykhailo Mudryk and say ‘I’m in love with this team’
CHELSEA fans have noticed an interaction between Kieran Dewsbury-Hall and Mykhailo Mudryk during last night’s clash with Panathinaikos.
Enzo Maresca‘s side won 4-1 in Greece to make it six points from two games in this season’s Europa Conference League.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall spoke to his team-mate Mykhailo Mudryk[/caption] The pair appeared to clear the air[/caption]Joao Felix was at the double for the Blues, with Mudryk and Christopher Nkunku also notching.
Mudryk, 23, assisted Felix’s first goal on 22 minutes.
Amid the celebrations, Dewsbury-Hall was seen putting his arm around the Ukrainian.
It appeared that the pair were talking out their differences, having clashed a few minutes earlier.
The former Leicester midfielder, 26, had been upset when Mudryk failed to pass to him on the edge of the box.
Having ignored Dewsbury-Hall’s cries for the ball, the winger instead took a shot – which sailed harmlessly over the bar.
The pair appeared to exchange furious words, with Mudryk seemingly defending his decision to shoot.
All was forgiven a few minutes later, when Mudryk teed up Felix’s opener.

Mudryk, 23, produced an improved performance in Greece[/caption]After seeing Dewsbury-Hall put his arm around his team-mate, several Chelsea fans gushed on social media.
One wrote: “I’m in love with this team.”
While a second commented: “What we love to see.”
A third gushed: “Discipline, my club is so back.”
And another added: “Class move by DH.”
Following Mudryk’s improved display, boss Maresca assessed his start to the season – having not even named him on the bench against Liverpool last weekend.
“We’re working with him and all the wingers,” the Italian began. “They need to arrive inside the box in the position where Misha [Mudryk] scored.
“He’s struggled to arrive there, now he’s started to. That’s where we’re going to score goals. We want the best for Misha – since day one we’ve tried to help him.
“Probably he’s one of the guys that the learning process is more slow compared to the rest. But he’s improving.
“I’m sure that slowly, slowly we’re going to arrive where he will score more goals and to be more important for us.”
Chelsea ratings vs Panathinaikos: Mudryk gives rare glimpse of his talent but one defender struggles
CHELSEA maintained their 100 per cent start to their Conference League campaign with a 4-1 win at Panathinaikos.
Joao Felix turned in the opening goal of an emotional night in Athens midway through the first half.
Mykhailo Mudryk headed in from close range after the break – before another for Felix, who then won a penalty converted by Christopher Nkunku.
However, Chelsea did not head back with a clean sheet as ex-Manchester United man Facundo Pellistri grabbed a consolation.
Here’s how SunSport’s Joshua Jones rated Enzo Maresca’s men…
Filip Jorgensen – 7
Made a fine flying save inside the opening two minutes, flying across to prevent a nightmare start.
Had to deal with a laser being shone in his face – will be disappointed not to get a clean sheet.
Axel Disasi – 5
Gave away the early free-kick that almost resulted in a shock early lead for the hosts.
Dragged slightly out of position before Panathinaikos’ goal then got booked for cynical tug in injury time – but made big block from resulting free-kick.
Benoit Badiashile – 5
Will have plenty of sterner tests this season – but would have been desperate not to concede.
Was the man who should have been picking up Pellistri at the back post when Disasi came central.
Renato Veiga – 6
Played as the left-sided centre-back and looked pretty relaxed about his evening’s work – understandably so.
Except for when he almost scored a comedic own goal but the ball looped just wide of the post.
Marc Cucurella – 6
Enjoying his role as the left-back who is given orders to help out in attack – leaving a back three behind when in possession.
Routine stuff for the Spaniard – although critics may say he was out of position in build-up to Pellistri goal.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 7
Former Leicester man showed plenty of energy – just as he promises to do in every appearance.
Played a neat long pass to Felix in the build-up to the opening goal.
Enzo Fernandez – 6
Back in the starting XI after his surprise exclusion against Liverpool, and given the captain’s armband.
Had a glorious chance to make it 2-0 but ran on to his shot but it was rising and tipped over to make sure.
Pedro Neto – 7
A constant livewire and delivered an inch-perfect cross for Mudryk’s goal.
May well get the nod against Newcastle ahead of Jadon Sancho and/or Noni Madueke.
Christopher Nkunku – 7
Despite the home fans’ best attempts with their lasers, the forward made no mistake from the penalty spot in his only notable contribution.
Cool as you like from 12 yards, firing low into the bottom corner.
Mykhailo Mudryk – 9
Left his team-mates frustrated when he went solo and blasted off target but made amends minutes later with a lovely sliding pass for Felix.
Then turned from assist provider to goalscorer with his header at the back post, just about nodding it in, and the smile said it all.
Went back to setting up, though, as he teed up Felix again.
Joao Felix – 8
Scored the opening goal – and did so in style with a lovely, cushioned header to flick the ball on then getting in the six-yard box to deftly turn home.
Got Chelsea’s third thanks to a fortunate deflection then won the penalty.
SUBS
Tyrique George (for Neto, 61 mins) – 7
Stung the palms with a late effort and looked very bright when he came on.
Marc Guiu (for Nkunku, 61 mins) – 5
Spent half an hour up top but was largely anonymous.
Cesare Casadei (for Fernandez, 71 mins) – 5
Extra minutes in midfield as Fernandez’s legs saved for Newcastle on Sunday.
Carney Chukwuemeka (for Dewsbury-Hall, 77 mins) – 5
Got the final stages but game all over by then.

The Listeners
New drama The Listeners starring Rebecca Hall[/caption]The new drama The Listeners – starring Rebecca Hall – centres around a popular English teacher, who begins to hear a low humming sound that no one else around her can hear.
This seemingly innocuous noise gradually upsets the balance of her life, increasing tension between herself and her husband, Paul, and daughter, Ashley.
But despite multiple doctors, no obvious source or medical cause can be found.
When she discovers that a student of hers, Kyle (Ollie West – Hamnet), can also hear the sound, the two strike up an unlikely and intimate friendship.
Finding themselves isolated from their families, friends and colleagues, they fall in with a disparate group of neighbours.
The group is led by a charismatic couple, Jo and Omar, who also claim they can hear The Hum – and who believe it could be a gift, heard only by a “chosen few.”
The Listeners explores the seduction of the wild and unknowable, the human search for the transcendent and the rise of conspiracy culture in the West.

Series nine sees Ashley Jensen and Alison O’Donnell reprise their roles as Detectives Ruth Calder and Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh.

They discover accountant Annie is estranged from her husband, Ian, and has been staying with mussel farmer John Harris and his two sons, Patrick and Fergus. Worryingly, there’s no sign of Annie there either.
Calder follows Tosh’s instincts and looks for Annie at the home she shared with Ian. There, they discover Professor Euan Rossi who claims to have been Annie’s Oxford University tutor many years ago.

Meanwhile, at the station, Calder delves deeper into another case involving a deadly argument between two brothers.

Suda 51 and Shinji Mikami’s cult classic makes a comeback but it’s not the update it deserves
GAMES from legendary director Suda 51 are not to everyone’s taste with their crude sense of humour, but they are always jam-packed with unique ideas.
People have fallen in love with his games, which push the boundaries and offer gamers something original.
Shooting down hordes of demons makes up the bulk to the gameplay[/caption] Demon hunter Garcia has his work cut out for him[/caption] The story surrounds saving your girlfriend Paula from the depths of hell[/caption]Some of his most famous titles are now pretty old, and the perfect targets for a modern remake.
That’s why I was so excited to play Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered only to be left disappointed.
Shadows of the Damned’s quirky story that so many people fell in love with is still here, and if you want bizarre ideas and immature humour, you’ll definitely find that here.
However, the original’s development felt rushed as some ideas were reused a little too frequently, losing their unique flair.
This persists in the remake, which could have been a perfect opportunity to flesh out the characters further.
There is a character that you see multiple times throughout the game only to be taken out without a complete arc and in an unsatisfying manner.
Shadows of the Damned also contained a lot of filler like relentless hordes of enemies that eat up your bullets, unskippable cutscenes, and attacks that can instantly kill you.
All of these frustrations are still present in Hella Remastered, which, despite this, took me less than 8 hours to complete.
There are no manual saves, and sometimes the auto save wouldn’t work sending me back to a previous checkpoint.
Shadows of the Damned is a game that truly deserves a remaster but it feels that the developers weren’t as passionate about the original and the fans.
We all wanted to see it be given its chance to shine with new content to remove the filler, and much needed quality-of-life improvements.
That isn’t what we have with Hella Remastered and what it could have been makes what it is feel so much worse.
The whole game feels like a wasted opportunity to finally bring Shadows of the Damned to the greatness it deserves.

Watch Married At First Sight’s most awkward sex chat EVER as Luke claims Amy’s ‘begging me to park my car in her garage’
MARRIED At First Sight fans were left in hysterics after witnessing the most awkward sex chat EVER.
Luke claimed Amy is “begging” him to park his car in her garage – as he attempted to explain their differing views in the bedroom.
Luke happy with his new wife on their wedding day[/caption] Amy wasn’t present when her husband was having the inappropriate chat[/caption]Luke told Kieran: “There’s something I want to talk to you about, just for your ears.
“Sometimes when we’re together, she asks me to park the car in her garage.
“I was raised to always park your car outside, because if you park your car inside, then it’s beyond your control.”
Listening in during the dinner party, MAFS expert Charlene Douglas said: “I think Luke is alluding to the fact that Amy wants him to climax inside of her, but he doesn’t want to.”
Her fellow relationship guru Mel Schilling put her hands over her ears and yelled: “Private conversation, Luke!”
The chat divided viewers – with some laughing off Luke’s analogy while others got the ick.
One said: “Not Luke talking about ‘parking his car’ in Amy’s garage… idk if I want him to stop or tell me more.”
Someone else added: “”I don’t know how Amy isn’t constantly cringed out and gotten the ick from Luke the shit he says makes me physically ill.”
Another said: “Thinking perhaps Luke and Amy need to have a chat about contraception!! He’s absolutely hilarious though. I love him.”
Even Amy has admitted to getting the ick with Luke previously in their relationship.
When the pair met on their wedding day, Luke kissed her on the hand and said “hello baby” during a photo shoot.
Speaking to the camera, Amy admited: “It’s giving me the ick a little bit.”
He’s struggled to hold back during the experiment – often spewing out his intimate thoughts on camera.
Luke once said: “The most embarrassing thing I’ve done in the bedroom is I’ve offered an unsolicited and unwanted butt plug…
“Which quickly made its way back into the box.”
Mafs couples that have stood the test of time
Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby.
The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam’s Doncaster home.
Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau.
Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December.
Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: “I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out – and excited for everything to come.”
Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019.
Owen recalled: “I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work.
“While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in.
“The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I signed up?’
“A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.”
Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson.
Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna’s vegan lifestyle, the show’s first same sex pairing are still going strong.
They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod.
Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: “We’re not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship.”
