How 60p bottle of liquid will make car heater work BETTER, stay warmer & use less fuel – keep it in your boot

DRIVERS are just learning of a brilliant way they can help make their car’s heating work better, stay warmer and even use less fuel.

Best of all, the little-known solution can cost as little as 60p.

As colder weather draws ever nearer across the UK, motorists will surely be keen to keep their car’s interiors as toasty as possible – especially on those bitter winter mornings.

We’ve already learned of a clever way drivers can keep warm if their car doesn’t have a working heater installed, but what if the motor’s heater is coming through somewhat tepidly?

Brilliantly, car experts at the AA have explained how a car’s heater works, why it might not be working properly, and a simple reason why that may be.

Most car heaters use coolant to warm up the interior of the vehicle, with the car’s engine heating the coolant, which is then pushed through the heater core – this acts like a mini-radiator.

Air is then pushed through the heater core resulting in hot air blowing into the car.

This explains why a car’s heating often comes through cold for a few minutes after its first start up, as the engine needs a little time to warm up to heat the coolant.

The AA states that a heating system that isn’t working properly could be due to a faulty blower motor or an issue stopping power from reaching the blower motor, although there are other possibilities too.

One simple issue could be low levels of antifreeze, or coolant, which would mean there won’t be enough hot liquid in the heater core, resulting in cold air.

Drivers can simply top up the coolant to the appropriate level, and then check to see if the heating is working properly again.

Antifreeze can be found for a relatively low price – with some products coming in as low as 60p – and we were able to find K2 Kuler Radiator Coolant Antifreeze for the low price of £1.44 for a 1-litre bottle.

Making sure your car’s antifreeze levels are topped up can even help improve fuel economy, by helping your car run at an optimal temperature.

To top up a car engine’s coolant, it’s simply a case of opening the reservoir cap – be careful the engine is not too hot and make sure to use a cloth wrapped around the cap to open it – and add it to the fluid level.

Why is my car's heating not working?

As well as a low levels of antifreeze, The AA claim there are three other reasons why your car's heating might not be working as well as it could be.

Damaged wiring
A damaged wire is a fairly simple fix, but if the car’s heater is unresponsive then it might be possible that a short-circuited wire or blown fuse is the cause.

Faulty heater fan
It’s possible that a car’s heater is working, but only until the hot liquid reaches the heater core.

If the heater fan is broken, then it won’t be able to blow hot air into the car’s interior. This could be down to a mechanical failure or electrical problem.

A faulty or damaged thermostat
A common reason for a car heater not working properly is a faulty or damaged thermostat.

This could actually lead to greater problems, including no coolant reaching the radiator and the engine overheating, causing a potentially critical issue.

This comes as drivers have been urged to keep a cheap item in their car to help them keep warm this winter.

Better yet, this gadget doesn’t waste any petrol on heating and can be bought for just 79p.

Also, an item from The Range that only costs £1.29 can get rid of condensation from car windows in seconds.

Homewares store The Range is currently selling a microfibre demister pad from Carkit for the rock-bottom price of £1.29.

Elsewhere, a beloved family-run garage that’s been serving its local community for nearly a century has closed its doors for good.

‘We work hard, we play hard’ British trainers admit they will be partying hard in Aus regardless of Melbourne Cup result

THE two trainers carrying Britain’s Melbourne Cup hopes admitted they will party hard “whether we win or lose” on Tuesday.

One went on to say they had little doubt that Melbourne would provide a “more than adequate venue” in which to let their hair down after the race.

Onesmoothoperator and Brian Ellison posed before the event at Flemington racecourse

North Yorkshire trainer Brian Ellison and Newmarket-based Harry Eustace both have runners in the £4 million ‘race that stops a Nation’.

And to them, this already feels like a win.

Because last month, both men made the 20-hour flight to Werribee last month unsure whether they would get a start in the iconic race.

But Ellison’s Onesmoothoperator booked himself a ticket when obliterated his Aussie rivals in the Geelong Cup, and now he’s third favourite at 13-2 for the Lexington showpiece.

The horse has already made his trainer very happy this season when winning the Pitman’s Derby, known now as the Northumberland Plate.

Ellison, who was born on Plate day in Newcastle, only ten minutes from the track, had always wanted to win the race.

And Eustace’s Sea King secured his place with a stylish win in the Bendigo Cup.

Eustace, son of flat-trainer James Eustace, has already had a crack at the Aussie racing scene this year, with down-the-field Juddmonte International finisher Docklands coming fifth in the Cox Plate.

But both trainers already feel like they’re on the winning side when it comes to the big one.

Ellison said: “Celebrations are going to be whether we win or lose. When we came here three weeks ago we were like 100-1.

“We’re both in the Melbourne Cup, we’ll celebrate regardless. We’ve had a good time, we’ve both had a winner.

“We work hard, we play hard!”

Eustace is no stranger to Australian celebrations – his brother David has had successes this side of the globe with former co-trainer Ciaron Maher.

He said: “I’m sure Melbourne will provide a very adequate party place, as Brian said, whatever happens,” Eustace added.

“There is a slight feeling, I suspect, almost in both camps, that it’s almost a win getting in (to the field) and we’re just determined to enjoy the rest of it.

“We’ve got a fun few days coming up and it’s fantastic to be a part of it!”

The race was significantly weakened when Aidan O’Brien’s favourite Jan Brueghel was ruled out due to a vet-check which sent his trainer into a complete frenzy.

But they still have some still competition, and both agree Willie Mullins’ Vauban is the one to watch.

Ellison said: “I think Vauban should be favourite … his form is really top class.

“But we’re hopeful about Onesmoothoperator.

“As for Australia – this is by far the best palace to come, the racing, the people, the sunshine, it’s a great place to come, I recommend anybody to come here.”

Eustance added: “I think Vauban is a big price, based on what he’s done. He finished second to Kyprios, who is by a long way our best stayer in Europe.

“He was all the rage last year, Willie’s (Mullins) a genius, I don’t see why there’s such a big swing.”

Last year the Melbourne Cup crowd celebrations went above and beyond, with race-goers partying as if the end of the world was around the corner.

PlayStation announces 55 games with Pro enhancements after disasterous initial reveal

THE PS5 Pro is currently the talk of the town, as everyone is discussing whether it’s worth the high asking price.

If you’re not in the know, it’s £700/$700 without items that used to be available out of the box, namely the disc drive and stand.

Yes, that’s £700/$700 before you pay for the stand and disc drive[/caption]

When you include the price of these pretty necessary accessories, you’re looking at £825/$810 to play the PS5 games you probably already own.

However, the PS5 Pro offers more than twice the storage of the original console, and the fidelity of graphics mode with the framerate of performance mode.

For those who care about how their games look and think the PS5 just isn’t cutting it anymore, then it might be worth the high price tag.

Initially only twelve games announced to receive PS5 Pro enhanced editions.

Looking at the list, they were some of the most popular games available on the PS5, but it was not a particularly long list when you are considering the price increase.

It’s a massive £350/$310 more than the original PS5 was at launch, which is enough to get you a Nintendo Switch or Xbox Series S and a few games to go with it.

However, if PlayStation is your console of choice and you always wanted to play your favourite games with a smooth framerate and the best graphics, then the PS5 Pro could be for you.

Since then PlayStation has announced a full list of 55 games, which will be available with PS5 Pro enhancements at launch.

If you want to be better informed before you decide whether to pre-order or not, here’s all the games that have been confirmed for enhancements on the PS5 Pro.

The musician, who received a Grammy nomination this year, is best known for his hits including Stick Season, All My Love, and Come Over.

His performance will feature special guest Gracie Abrams, who is currently dating actor Paul Mescal.

Although the complete list of acts is yet to be revealed, Noah’s show will take place alongside gigs by country star Zach Bryan, actor and singer Hugh Jackman, and Jeff Lynne’s ELO.

Last week, Zach was handed a second date at the London festival – after his planned one-off show sold out so quickly.

Tickets for the 28-year-old’s gig on June 28 next year went so fast that organisers have now scheduled a second show for the following day.

Jim King, who is the CEO of European Festivals at AEG Presents, suggests the two gigs could turn out to be the “biggest shows of the summer”.

He said: “The demand to see Zach Bryan has been incredible, with his fans coming from all over the UK to see these exclusive performances. It’s shaping up to be the biggest shows of the summer.”

In 2024, BST Hyde Park showcased an impressive roster of superstars over three weekends.

The festival featured performances by SZA, Kings of Leon, Morgan Wallen, Andrea Bocelli, Robbie Williams, Shania Twain, Stevie Nicks, Kylie Minogue, and Stray Kids.

Tickets for the 2025 shows will be available for purchase starting November 8 at 10am on the official website.

How disgraced Andrew is ‘shoving two fingers up at King Charles’ after going from Airmiles Andy to Penniless Prince

HE was once the high-flying partying royal, but these days the walls are quite literally caving in around disgraced Prince Andrew.

This week, our exclusive pictures revealed how the Duke of York looks to have let his Windsor mansion go to ruin as his money problems pile up.

The prince’s nickname was Airmiles Andy because of his jet set lifestyle[/caption]

Now, experts have warned Andrew “needs to get real” about his financial situation and “downsize” from his 30-room mansion, suggesting he is petulantly “shoving up two fingers at King Charles” by staying put.

The Duke is said to be determined to hold onto the crumbling Royal Lodge, despite his brother King Charles cutting off his £1 million a year allowance.

The once spendthrift prince, who lived a jetset lifestyle with sheikhs and billionaires, is no longer a working royal and doesn’t appear to have a job.

The Royal Lodge has an estimated annual repair bill of £400,000, but 64-year-old Andrew is only getting around £20,000 a year from his naval pension.

Former Liberal Democrat MP Norman Baker is an expert on the complex and often secretive funding of the Windsors, and author of the book And What Do You Do?

He thinks that Andrew will struggle to find a wealthy benefactor to bail him out like he did in the past, because he’s “persona non grata” following allegations that he had sex with Virginia Giuffre after she was trafficked by serial abuser Jeffrey Epstein.

The royal has always denied having sex with Virginia, who was 17 at the time of the alleged offence in 2001, but paid a reported £12 million to her to settle a civil claim in 2022.

He has reportedly been offered the chance to live in Frogmore Cottage, which Prince Harry briefly lived in with his wife Meghan, in Windsor instead, but doesn’t want to shift to the much smaller property.

Norman tells The Sun: “I think it’s right that Andrew should be turfed out of where he is. It’s far too large for him.

“He’s not performing any sort of function for the Royal Family or for the country at large. He needs to get real and downsize.

“I think the offer of Frogmore Cottage is actually a very generous one. He ought to be happy with that.”

Royal author Christopher Wilson, whose books include Fergie – Her Secret Life, thinks it is a “disgrace” that the home the Queen Mother once called her “little paradise” is being left to rot.

He says: “To see the Queen Mother’s much-loved house where she lived, she adored living there, in such a state of disrepair is a disgrace.

“It’s dishonouring her memory. It’s shoving up two fingers at King Charles.”

Christopher believes that Andrew will stay in the Royal Lodge just to annoy his brother Charles.

He adds: “The state of his mind is reflected in the state of his home. It is falling all around him.

“He doesn’t care anymore. He knows he’s never coming back and he’s just digging his toes in.”

The golden boy

It is a massive fall from grace for the prince who was described as the late Queen Elizabeth II’s “favourite son.”

Seen as a war hero, thanks to his bravery as a helicopter pilot in the Falklands War, he was a playboy prince who dated the likes of actress Koo Stark.

Andrew used RAF planes just to fly to golf days in St Andrew’s in Scotland and would criss cross the globe as a UK trade envoy, sometimes taking in ski trips on the way.

The man nicknamed Airmiles Andy no longer enjoys such benefits.

In the past when the prince was strapped for cash, either the Queen or rich benefactors appear to have ridden to his rescue.

Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson’s marital home Sunninghill Park, dubbed South York due to its extravagant Dallas styling, was left empty for almost a decade.

Kazakhstan billionaire Timur Kulibayev paid £15million for it in 2007, which was believed to be £3million over the asking price.

Hunting rich benefactors

But it was Andrew’s friendships with the likes of Epstein and Saif Gaddafi, the son of the brutal former Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, that got him into trouble in the first place.

Norman comments: “Some of these people he dealt with in the Middle East, were just complete autocrats, including people who are associated with torture of opponents.”

In 2019 Andrew said that he had “never stopped loving” Sarah even though they divorced in 1996 after ten years of marriage.

She shares the Royal Lodge with him and could help fund some of the upkeep.

Sarah, 65, makes money from writing books, TV work and her Storytime with Fergie YouTube videos.

I think it’s right that Andrew should be turfed out of where he is

Norman Baker

Norman claims: “It’s even more difficult to find a billionaire to bail them out now, but nevertheless, that’s what they’ll try and do.

“They’re not going to go down the job centre, are they?”

However, Christopher doesn’t think Andrew is so skint that he’s going to need to work for a living – ever.

He explains: “He inherited money from the Queen Mother. He inherited money from the Queen.

“I think there is money there, but he’s not prepared to shell it out.”

Despite their apparent dire financial straits, Sarah was able to find £7 million two years ago for a two-home property in Belgravia, which is one of Londons’ most expensive locations.

That is said to be an investment for their daughters Princess Beatrice, 36, and Princess Eugenie, 34.

Both princesses have married wealthy men: Beatrice to Italian noble Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and Eugenie to marketing executive Jack Brooksbank.

Andrew was also keen for his daughters to retain their titles and be treated like royalty.

His bills, though, are likely to keep stacking up.

According to royal author Robert Hardman, the king is no longer shelling out for Andrew’s ten-strong security team.

If Andrew wants protection, he’s going to have to fund it himself.

He also enjoys expensive pastimes such as horse riding, shooting trips and dining out at fancy restaurants.

Christopher comments: “He’s still got staff and he’s still got security, all that costs a great deal of money.

“And he’s got a very expensive wife as well.”

Previously, Andrew’s been able to sell property to deal with money problems.

The prince sold a chalet in Verbier in the Swiss Alps for £17 million, which most likely went to help pay Virginia.

The previous monarch, who gave Sunninghill Park to her second son as a wedding gift, is also believed to have pitched in to fund that payment.

But even Elizabeth realised she could no longer stand by Andrew after his car-crash Newsnight interview where he denied any sexual impropriety with Virginia.

She stripped him of his remaining military titles and is said to have considered shifting him out of the Royal Lodge.

Public purse

Norman, though, says that the taxpayer isn’t saving any money by Andrew’s allowance being stopped.

He explains: “All that will happen is that the King’s no longer paying Andrew, but Charles will just have more money himself.”

The author is worried that the Royal Lodge’s state of disrepair will cost the exchequer more in the long run.

He continues: “Where Andrew is at the moment is an important building and he’s letting it go to rack and ruin.

“What I think will happen is that eventually we may end up seeing William and Kate move in there and there’ll be a massive bill for the public to make up for all the damage that Andrew’s not dealt with.”
