His body was found in the courtyard of his tenth-floor flat by an SVR employee linked to a former Russian spymaster.
Initial reports in Moscow media outlets said that he had been suffering from “a severe form of cancer”.
But these reports were denied by his close friends and relatives.
His relatives insisted there were no signs that he was suicidal and he was in a “good mood” shortly before his death.
He now joins the string of unexplained deaths of leading Russian figures under mysterious circumstances.
Lukoil tycoon Ravil Maganov, 67, fell from a window of Moscow’s elite Central Clinical Hospital, also known as the Kremlin clinic, in September 2022.
He was replaced by Vladimir Nekrasov – in October 2023, who died aged 66 of “acute heart failure” in October 2023.
The following month, Russian senator and war backer, Vladimir Lebedev, with close Lukoil links, died suddenly in an unexplained “terrible tragedy” aged 60.
In March, Lukoil vice-president Vitaly Robertus, 53, became the latest victim of a death curse to haunt Lukoil, a prominent company propping up Putin’s regime.
Meanwhile, a prominent female judge was found dead after falling from a Moscow high-rise building.

KEEPING your fridge freezer running efficiently can be costly – especially as it’s one of the only appliances that is left on constantly.
And simple mistakes, like leaving the door open, or creating a mini ice age in the freezer tray, will only push up the prices you’ve got to pay each month.
Using your fridge freezer wrong could be adding your energy bill[/caption]
If you’re using your fridge freezer all wrong, you’ll only be making the situation worse – and you might face paying more for energy.
With energy bills rising by £149 annually for the average household at the beginning of this month, we’re all looking for ways to save.
Here are the mistakes you’ve been making, and how to cut costs.
DEFROST IT
If you don’t defrost your freezer compartment it could add as much as £150 a year to your bill, experts have previously told The Sun.
The frost buildup in increases the amount of work your freezer’s motor has to do.
And if the motor is working harder, then this means it’s using more energy.
You can chip away at any build up once it starts to look a little glacial inside and then your energy bill won’t have to take such a hit.
DON’T OVERLOAD IT
When you have too much food in your fridge or freezer, the appliance struggles to keep all the items of food cold, and uses more energy as a result.
Unclutter your fridge, so make sure your fridge isn’t packed to the brim.
Especially near the ventilating outlets as keeping space at the top and sides of your fridge helps the cool air move around easier.
But with that said you shouldn’t leave it empty either.
If you haven’t got any goods in the fridge then it will be working for nothing – that’s especially the case when you go on holiday.
If you’re off on your travels and you’re leaving nothing behind, make sure to switch off the fridge, otherwise it could be wasting energy for absolutely no benefit.
CLOSE THE GAPS
If the food shop has been a bit sparse this week but you don’t want your fridge over-working to stay cold, there’s ways to keep it stocked-up without filling it with food.
Keep your fridge and freezer filled with things like bottles of tap water that will slot into the empty space.
You can also fill empty space in the freezer with screwed up newspaper.
Both DIY items can quickly freeze over – and once they do they’ll keep the rest of the contents cooler, so the appliance won’t have to work as hard.
How do I calculate my energy bill?
BELOW we reveal how you can calculate your own energy bill.
To calculate how much you pay for your energy bill, you must find out your unit rate for gas and electricity and the standing charge for each fuel type.
The unit rate will usually be shown on your bill in p/kWh.The standing charge is a daily charge that is paid 365 days of the year – irrespective of whether or not you use any gas or electricity.
You will then need to note down your own annual energy usage from a previous bill.
Once you have these details, you can work out your gas and electricity costs separately.
Multiply your usage in kWh by the unit rate cost in p/kWh for the corresponding fuel type – this will give you your usage costs.
You’ll then need to multiply each standing charge by 365 and add this figure to the totals for your usage – this will then give you your annual costs.
Divide this figure by 12, and you’ll be able to determine how much you should expect to pay each month from April 1.
POSITION IT
Where your fridge sits in your kitchen is important.
No, it’s not so much about the feng-shui, but there are spots in the kitchen that could be troublesome if you’re looking at keeping coasts to a minimum.
Experts at Uswitch have said that if it’s practical, place your fridge away from your cooker and make sure it isn’t in direct sunlight.
That’s because it’s always going to operate better if it’s in a cool spot.
Beside the cooker it might have to battle with heat coming off the second appliance, and the sun shining onto your fridge might impact its temperature too.
They also advised that you should also keep the fridge at least 10cm from the wall, as this will allow the coils to work most efficiently.
CHECK THE SEAL
Check seals on your fridge are in good order.
This is a bit like when you’re plugging up your home from nasty draughts – you don’t want either the cool air to escape or hot air to creep in.
Both scenarios are only going to make your fridge work harder, using more energy in the process.
A good way to make sure the seals are working as intended is by opening the door, holding a bit of paper where the door shuts, and then shutting it, says Which?.
If the paper can’t be pulled out whilst the door is shut, then everything is okay; but if the paper comes out, then the seals need to be sorted.
You can simply tighten the hinges if you’re a dab hand at DIY or, if you have a bit of spare cash, replace the seals.
New seals are often available online for £30 to £100.
SHUT THE DOOR
Keep the door shut to stop unwanted draughts too.
When you’re taking food out of the fridge, you want to get in and out as quickly as you can.
Every time the fridge door is opened, cold air escapes and warmer air enters and this exchange pushes up the temperature inside so the fridge has to work harder.
It’ll use more energy to get back down to temperature and cost more on your bills.
SCRUB UP
You shouldn’t forget about the back of your fridge freezer either – it needs just as much TLC and taking the time to clean it up could save you money on your energy bills.
Dust on the condenser coils can prevent your appliance from cooling properly, and if it’s particularly thick it can reduce the efficiency by as much as 25% says Which?.
You can vacuum away the dust and dirt to get your fridge freezer working more efficiently again which should bring down your energy usage.
Hacks for Keeping Food Fresh in Your Fridge
IF you want your food to stay fresh, you'll need to try out this useful hacks...
Herbs in Water: Store fresh herbs like parsley and coriander in a glass of water, then cover with a plastic bag to keep them fresh for weeks.
Wrap Greens in Paper Towels: Wrap leafy greens in paper towels before placing them in a plastic bag. The towels absorb excess moisture, preventing wilting.
Use Mason Jars: Store salads, chopped vegetables, and even leftovers in mason jars. They are airtight and keep food fresher for longer.
Revive Stale Bread: Sprinkle a bit of water on stale bread and pop it in the oven for a few minutes to make it fresh again.
Baking Soda for Odours: Place an open box of baking soda in your fridge to absorb odours and keep food tasting fresh.
Freeze Herbs in Olive Oil: Chop herbs and freeze them in olive oil using an ice cube tray. This preserves their flavour and makes them easy to use.
Keep Cheese Fresh: Wrap cheese in wax paper instead of plastic wrap. Wax paper allows the cheese to breathe, preventing it from becoming slimy.
Store Avocados with Onions: Place a cut avocado in an airtight container with a slice of onion. The sulphur compounds in the onion slow down oxidation, keeping the avocado fresh.
Use Vinegar Wash for Berries: Rinse berries in a mixture of water and vinegar (one cup of vinegar to three cups of water) before storing. This kills bacteria and mould spores, extending their shelf life.
Egg Freshness Test: To check if eggs are still fresh, place them in a bowl of water. Fresh eggs will sink, while old ones will float.
Implement these clever hacks to maximise the freshness of your food and make the most of your groceries.

Wolves fans felt Jose Sa was impeded by Bernardo Silva when Man City scored their winner[/caption]
John Stones rose up above the crowd and nodded home a late goal[/caption]
Stones celebrated the late winner[/caption]
Wolves players and fans felt that their goalkeeper Jose Sa was being impeded by Bernardo Silva at the corner kick while the City midfielder was standing in an offside position.
The officials seemed to agree and chalked the goal off on-field.
However referee Chris Cavanagh was subsequently advised to head to the monitor by VAR Stuart Attwell.
After review, Cavanagh awarded the goal and spared Man City from an embarrassing draw to rock bottom of the table.
The Wolves bench were incensed by the decision with Gary O’Neil getting booked for his protests on the sidelines.
While fans online and in the stadium were sent into meltdown.
But the Premier League have now released a statement explaining exactly why the decision was made.
Via the Premier League Match Centre X page, they wrote: “Stones’ goal was disallowed on-field due to Bernardo Silva being in an offside position and in the goalkeeper’s line of vision.
“The VAR deemed Bernardo Silva wasn’t in the line of vision and had no impact on the goalkeeper and recommended an on-field review.
“The referee overturned his original decision and a goal was awarded.”
Bernardo Silva seemed to be some distance away from Sa by the time Stones headed the ball goalward.
While the shot-stopper had a clear view over Silva’s head thanks to the significant height different between the pair.
However, fans and even pundits seemed to think the goal should have been ruled our after seeing footage that showed Silva back into Sa during the corner routine.
Sky Sports pundit and former Man City star Micah Richards said: “The fact of the matter is he’s [Bernardo Silva] still in the keeper’s way so it has affected the play, in my opinion.”
Adding: “It’s just that nudge that sends him off balance and Sa can’t get set. So I understand why Wolves would be aggrieved at this particular moment.”
City’s 2-1 win will have come as a huge sigh of relief with the Etihad outfit close to failing to take advantage of title rivals Arsenal‘s shortcoming yesterday.

SECRET plans showing Israel’s preparation for a potential revenge strike on Iran have been leaked, US officials confirmed.
The intel leak, described as “deeply concerning”, comes amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran as the Middle East stands on the brink of all-out war.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is planning to strike Iran[/caption]
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed to retaliate if attacked by Israel[/caption]
President Joe Biden meets with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the Oval Office[/caption]
The alleged documents, marked as “top secret”, are said to contain US intelligence analysing Israel’s inevitable retaliation plan against Iran.
Tehran went all out and launched an unprecedented blitz – attacking Israeli territory with some 200 ballistic missiles.
It was believed to be revenge for the killing of Hassan Nasrallah, the chief of Iran’s biggest – and most powerful – terror proxy Hezbollah.
Parts of the leaked document, dated October 15 and 16, reportedly contain satellite imagery appearing to show Israel’s preparation of munitions and military drills, according to the New York Times.
Others describe the assessment of the Israeli Air Force exercising long-range ballistic and air-to-surface missiles – believed to be planned for a potential strike against Iran.
The documents also suggest Israel was conducting covert surveillance on Iran using advanced drone technology.
The Sun is not directly quoting or showing the information from the leaked documents.
Speaking of the intel leak, senior US officials privately acknowledged the documents were authentic, but suggested they were not a comprehensive assessment of Israel’s full retaliation plan against Iran.
They said the documents only outlined the information US intelligence analysts could gather as of the time of the document.
However, US officials told CNN the leak is “deeply concerning”.
The leaked documents have markings that indicate they are only meant to be seen by the US and its Five Eyes – Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
However, on Friday, parts of the highly sensitive documents began circulating in Telegram after being posted by an account called Middle East Spectator, The Telegraph reports.
The account claims not to have any affiliations to the Iranian regime – and is said to be managed by a bunch of independent journalists who refer to the Israeli government as the “Zionist Regime”
Although the New York Times reported that the documents have been discussed largely by pro-Iranian groups.

NETANYAHU’S REVENGE
Israel is now expected to launch a retaliatory strike after Iran attacked the country with almost 200 ballistic missiles targeting the civilian population.
Live footage from Israel showed hundreds of ballistic missiles being shot down by Israeli air defences over Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Air raid sirens blared across the country as innocent Israelis scrambled to take cover in their homes, under bridges, and in bomb shelters.
Deafening explosions have also been heard in the Jordan Valley, which sits on the border between Jordan and the West Bank.
Early warning systems detected the launches and skies above Israel began lighting up within minutes.
Red tracers from the Iron Dome and David’s Sling interceptions were seen blasting the incoming missiles while sending white flaming debris crashing earthwards.
The IDF said at least 10 million civilians were the targets of the unprecedented night blitz.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Netanyahu seems to be more ready than ever to launch strikes after his seaside residence was attacked yesterday by Hezbollah drones in a brazen assassination attempt.
It is understood that three drones entered Israeli airspace today after eluding the air defences.
Two of them were shot down after the breach.
But one managed to hit a building in Caesarea – extremely close to Netanyahu’s vacation home.
Netanyahu, 74 and his wife Sara, 65, were unharmed.
Military commanders believe he was targeted by a revenge strike after his forces killed both Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, followed by Hamas kingpin Yahya Sinwar on Wednesday.
Netanyahu has since alleged that the drone strike was part of an assassination attempt plotted by Iran, vowing Tehran would “pay a price” for a drone attack.
Iranian officials meanwhile tried to downplay the situation but confirmed the drones were indeed launched by Hezbollah.
Although Tehran denied any involvement in the drone strike that appeared to “eliminate Netanyahu”.
Iran has also vowed to respond to any Israeli attack – saying it has “no red lines”.
LATEST IN THE MIDDLE EAST WAR
Hezbollah fired a salvo of more than 100 rockets into Israel, killing at least one person and injuring others in the northern region of the country.
Footage shared by the IDF shows a building destroyed by the rocket attack that was launched from Lebanon targeting innocent Israeli people.
Posting the clip on X/Twitter, the IDF said: “Hezbollah fires rockets indiscriminately, and this is the result.”
Israel launched its ground operation in Lebanon earlier this month to weaken Hezbollah and push the terror group away from the border to allow displaced Israelis to return.
In response, IDF struck multiple targets inside Lebanon which they claim are Hezbollah strongholds.
Some of the buildings struck were Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters and an underground weapons workshop in Beirut< Israel claims.
The Israeli military also issued fresh evacuation warnings for civilians staying in Beirut’s southern suburb.
IDF Col. Avichay Adraee said: “You are in the vicinity of Hezbollah facilities, which the IDF will operate against in the near future.”
Israel is now at war with Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon – both Iran-backed militant groups.
The IDF have been striking parts of northern Gaza, claiming they are aiming to wipe out Hamas brutes.
But the strikes have also killed scores of Palestinians who were present in the densely populated area.
More than 42,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war so far, according to Gaza-run health centres.
