Strictly’s Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell’s close bond revealed as they share sweet moment

STRICTLY’S Chris McCausland melted millions of hearts when he waltzed to the Liverpool football anthem you’ll never walk alone, with his professional dance partner Dianne Buswell last night.

Brimming with emotion, Dianne told the visually impaired contestant that was proud of him, after they’d finished the dance and awaited the judges scores.

Now as our exclusive pictures reveal, the strong bond they share is not just for the Saturday night show, as they are seen enjoying a tender moment backstage, before going on to perform.

Snapped in a corner of the Strictly studios in Elstree, Chris can be seen kissing Dianne’s hand, as they moved through some of the motions of their dance.

In another image Dianne is seen helping Chris tie the laces of his shoes, clearly capturing their true and genuine friendship.

Liverpool-born and bred, McCasuland, 47,  who also supports the football team was first seen walking out alone onto the dance floor, before meeting Dianne, as the two came together for a stylish waltz.

After the dance Chris asked Dianne, “Did I do ok?” which seemed to warm the hearts of the fans and also actor Adam Woodyatt, best known for playing Ian Beale on EastEnders, who was crying in the audience.

The social media reaction to his dance was overwhelmingly supportive, proving that Chris is one of this year’s most popular contestants.

One fan said: making Ian Beale cry was not on my bingo card for Strictly this year that’s for sure!”

Meanwhile another person commented: “Just give Chris McCausland the glitterball trophy. Now not only is he inspirational, he’s incredible. Keep voting for him.”

And another Strictly viewer enthused: “Chris McCasuland has genuinely been the highlight of Striclty Come Dancing 2024 for me. Ive never watched the show weekly in the past, but now it’s a Saturday must watch. Keep Chris for as long as possible.”

The comedian lost his sight at 22 due to a hereditary condition called retinitis pigmentosa.

Married with a ten-year-old daughter, Chris has explained that he can still see light and space and always has an awareness if there is something in front of him.

But he also underscored that he didn’t want to, “bang viewers over the head with his blindness.” He said:

“It’s great that there’s people coming through who are able to represent disability while also having the experience to do the job properly. There’s no point fast-tracking performers on to TV before they’re ready.

“My attitude has always been to represent by not banging you over the head. I think the best way to represent a disability is to make people forget about it whenever possible. It’s always part of you.”

His performance in last night’s show suggests that Chris could be in the competition for some time, after landing a score of 35 from the judges who were also visibly moved by his performance.

If his popularity continues to soar with the viewers, he could make history as the first blind contestant to make the Strictly Come Dancing final.

Discount chain with nearly 200 branches shuts ‘absolutely loved’ town centre shop for good

A DISCOUNT chain with nearly 200 branches has shut its “absolutely loved” town centre shop for good.

The shop, based in the village of Ben Rhydding in Bradford, West Yorkshire, closed its doors forever on October 19.

The Original Factory Shop, on the corner of the A65 and Wheatley Lanea was once a garage and car showroom, but sadly the fate of the building has both been revealed and approved.

In August, Bradford Council’s planning panel approved the demolition of the building to make way for a drive-thru coffee shop.

Despite much controversy and uproar surrounding this plan, it seems the plan will be going ahead.

According to Telegraph & Argus, over 160 people wrote to Bradford Council, begging them to drop the plans.

This was followed by another 61 people signing a petition against the application, put forward by The EG Group Ltd and Burley Developments Ltd.

The EG was founded by the billionaire Issa brothers who operates other sites such as Starbucks, Greggs and Krispy Kreme – indicating what could replace the building.

In a Facebook post, The Original Factory Shop shared the sad news with locals and pointed them to the nearest chain in Otley.

It said: “We take this opportunity to thank all of the local community and our store colleagues for their support throughout our time here in Ilkley.”

Many unhappy locals have since taken to Facebook to share their thoughts.

One person wrote: “Absolutely loved the factory shop.”

While a second took a guess at what could replace the building: “It’s being taken over by the company that owns Starbucks and Kristy Kreme, so most likely a Starbucks. Tesco have had the plans.”

In response to this comment, a person said: “Glad it isn’t krispy kreme, my diet would be out the window.”

As locals questioned what could be replacing the shop, one person voiced their thoughts: “Well let’s hope they improve the aesthetics and make the signage in keeping with the town.”

Originally founded in 1969, the discount chain even turned 35 Woolworths stores into The Original Factory Shop stores.

It was also close to having 200 stores in the UK, but unfortunately this closure won’t get it any where nearer to that mark.

Alas, this news comes amid a wave of store closures across the UK.

Retail woes

Other retailers, such as HomebaseBoots, and Clarks, have been reducing the number of their high-street branches.

Rising rents, energy bills, and the cost of living have also caused many retailers to fail.

Several big retailers have fallen into administration in the past year, including Wilko, Paperchase, and most recently, The Body Shop and Ted Baker.

The Body Shop collapsed into administration on February 13, putting its almost 198 branches at risk of closure.

Since then, it has closed down 82 locations.

Why are retailers closing shops?

EMPTY shops have become an eyesore on many British high streets and are often symbolic of a town centre’s decline.

The Sun’s business editor Ashley Armstrong explains why so many retailers are shutting their doors.

In many cases, retailers are shutting stores because they are no longer the money-makers they once were because of the rise of online shopping.

Falling store sales and rising staff costs have made it even more expensive for shops to stay open. In some cases, retailers are shutting a store and reopening a new shop at the other end of a high street to reflect how a town has changed.

The problem is that when a big shop closes, footfall falls across the local high street, which puts more shops at risk of closing.

Retail parks are increasingly popular with shoppers, who want to be able to get easy, free parking at a time when local councils have hiked parking charges in towns.

Many retailers including Next and Marks & Spencer have been shutting stores on the high street and taking bigger stores in better-performing retail parks instead.

Boss Stuart Machin recently said that when it relocated a tired store in Chesterfield to a new big store in a retail park half a mile away, its sales in the area rose by 103 per cent.

In some cases, stores have been shut when a retailer goes bust, as in the case of Wilko, Debenhams Topshop, Dorothy Perkins and Paperchase to name a few.

What’s increasingly common is when a chain goes bust a rival retailer or private equity firm snaps up the intellectual property rights so they can own the brand and sell it online.

They may go on to open a handful of stores if there is customer demand, but there are rarely ever as many stores or in the same places.

Jeremy Clarkson dealt fresh blow after heart surgery as he admits ‘it’s been a s**t week’

Jezza underwent life-saving heart surgery after experiencing a number of worrying symptoms.

The Sun columnist said he was alerted to changes in his health while on holiday after he struggled to walk up the stairs following an “attempt” at swimming.

Now, just hours after bravely discussing his recent medical ordeal, the star confirmed that he had been issued with some even more worrying news.

Jeremy took to Instagram to reveal that one of beloved dogs was currently “under the knife” after contracting a life-threatening condition of their own.

His dog is suffering from pyometra – a serious and often life-threatening infection of the uterus which causes bacteria in the dog.

Sharing a snap of the pooch, Jezza wrote online: “The poor thing is under the knife as we speak. She has pyometra. S**t week.”

Sending well-wishes, many of the TV presenter’s followers sent heart-warming messages of support.

One said: “I’m really sorry, I hope she recovers.”

Another added: “Aw it’s always a massive worry but hopefully surgery is successful and she will make such a quick recovery, they bounce back much quicker than humans.”

Before a third shared: “Wishing your doggo a speedy recovery.”

It is the latest blow for Jeremy amid his own health worries.

He recently spoke in his Sunday Times column about seeking emergency medical care  after being left “clammy” and suffering with “tightness in my chest”, and “pins and needles in my left arm”.

Jeremy told how an ambulance rushed him to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital where tests ruled out a heart attack.

However, further examinations revealed one artery was fully blocked and another was nearly blocked, putting him at serious risk.

Clarkson's Farm series guide

By Conor O'Brien, TV Reporter

Clarkson’s Farm airs on Prime Video and follows TV personality Jeremy Clarkson as he manages his Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds.

Three series have been released to date and here is an overview of what has happened so far.

Series 1

  • Jeremy takes over the day-to-day running of the newly renamed Diddly Squat Farm.
  • Lisa Hogan, Kaleb Cooper, “Cheerful Charlie” Ireland and Gerald Cooper are also introduced.
  • Jeremy starts to assemble what he needs for his farm – as well as laying the groundwork for things to come later.
  • He buys key equipment including a tractor and cultivator, as well as taking on sheep and opening a farm shop.
  • Jeremy takes over the day-to-day running of the newly renamed Diddly Squat Farm.

Series 2

  • This series sees Jeremy look for ways to increase the farm’s revenue.
  • One such example is bringing in a herd of cows although this isn’t without its issues.
  • Jeremy also had the idea to convert the abandoned lambing barn into a restaurant where he could sell his meat from the farm.
  • For this plan to move forward, he had to get planning permission from the local council.
  • Viewers also meet Pepper, a heifer among the herd who ultimately becomes the star’s favourite.

Series 3

  • The third series contained some of the show’s most emotional moments to date.
  • In heartbreaking scenes, dozens of newborn piglets died as a result of overlaying – their mother rolling on to them.
  • Jeremy said goodbye to his favourite pig – the Baroness – after she developed cancer and needed to be put down.
  • Dry stonewall expert and “head of security” Gerald Cooper was diagnosed with cancer.
  • Jeremy and Kaleb began a competition between themselves – with Kaleb looking after the arable side and Jeremy taking the non-arable elements.
  • Fellow farmers – and famous faces – Andy Cato and George Lamb appear in this series

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire host said he was then taken to surgery for urgent treatment.

A stent was inserted into the blocked artery to keep it open and restore blood flow to the heart.

He wrote: “It wasn’t especially painful. Just odd,” and said he thought at the time, “Crikey, that was close.”

The TV star previously said he is worried about his health and admitted: “I don’t have long left”.

He said in an interview with The Guardian in April: “I don’t have long. I’ve probably only got what, 70,000 hours left, maybe?”

He also shared his fears over developing dementia, telling The Times his “memory is shot” and his hearing loss “doubled his chance” of getting the disease.
