Dana White breaks silence on Conor McGregor’s fight announcement with ten-word statement

McGregor, 36, revealed to SunSport in July his eagerness to return in December but the UFC brass has opted to have him make his comeback next year.

The Irishman recently claimed that he’d be fighting the resurgent Dan Hooker in a Saudi showdown on February 1.

Both men are keen on the bout, as is UFC President and CEO White.

The 55-year-old said of the potential lightweight showdown: “That would be a great fight. I like that fight.”

Hooker, however, has ruled out fighting the UFC’s poster boy in February as he and wife Helena are expecting their second daughter.

‘The Hangman’ told reporter Helen Yee: “I’m good to go in January or March.

“The missus is due [for a baby in] February, so no can go.

“I’ve got a little girl on the way.

“You’d even turn down a big fight with McGregor for [the birth of your child].

“You’re not missing that. No panties are coming off in February.

“[McGregor’s] busy, he’s got money coming out of his ears.

“If I had that amount of money in the bank, you wouldn’t see me anywhere near a fistfight.”

Former two-division champion McGregor was on course to land a bumper new deal with MMA‘s top promotion before the cancellation of his summer showdown with Chandler.

But the Dubliner suggested talks have cooled off following the collapse of his eagerly-anticipated comeback.

He told SunSport: “You know, the fight never happened. So it’s just about getting the fight on.”

Former feather and lightweight champion McGregor hasn’t set foot inside the octagon since breaking his left leg in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier.

Washington DC will be besieged by rioters whether Donald Trump wins or loses election, fears security chief

WASHINGTON DC will be a no-go zone in the aftermath of the US election, a top security expert warned today.

On Never Mind The Ballots, former intelligence officer Don Bremer claimed the capital city could be engulfed by riots from both the right and left of American politics.

Gates and fences are already being propped up around DC amid fears this election could prove the most divisive, and possibly violent, in decades.

On January 6, 2021, right-wing insurrectionists stormed Capitol Hill in protest at Donald Trump losing to current President Joe Biden.

The agitators falsely claimed the election had been “stolen” from the Republicans and battled riot police for hours before finally being cleared out.

Ahead of November 5, Mr Bremer claimed that extremists on both the left and right could cause similar scenes depending on whether the result swings in their favour.

The intelligence expert said: “In DC you’re already seeing gates and fences going up around the Capitol grounds.

“Many of those haven’t been taken down since Israeli PM Netanyahu was here, but those will be reinforced.

“A lot of lessons have been learned on what needs to be done so that we don’t have a repeat.

“But I know for many firms and many offices here in Washington, during election week we’ll be working from home.”

Advising against a visit to the Capitol area, Mr Bremer added: “It’s in the best interest to avoid those situations and not put yourself in harms way.”

It comes as Trump is now the punters favourite to win the US Election.

On the Betfair exchange, the Republican chief is on his shortest odds since the end of July.

Harris is now out to 6/4, her biggest odds since accepting the Democrat nomination.

On Never Mind The Ballots, Top Republican Strategist, Erol Morkoc, declared “we’ve got this in the bag”.

More than £145m has been wagered on the Betfair Exchange US Election markets, with over £10m staked in the last seven days.

The majority of cash, £6.6m, is coming in favour of Trump.

Trump is now favourite to win in a number of key swing states, including Pennsylvania, Arizona, North Carolina and Georgia.

And the betting has tightened in Wisconsin, where it’s now neck and neck, and Michigan, where Harris, who is still the favourite, has seen her odds drift.

But the latest ABC poll puts the Democrat candidate ahead of her rival, 49% to 46%.

Puzzling polls - election's still all to play for

Analysis by Political Commentator Adam Boulten

If you back to when Trump won in 2016, both the punters and the polls got it wrong.

If you go back to 2020 both for punters and the polls got it right.

This time around there’s divergence.

If you look at what the punters are saying, they are clearly favouring Donald Trump.

But the latest from the opinion poll market puts the averages for Kamala Harris on about 49% and Donald Trump on 46%.

And what’s interesting about that is Donald Trump seems to be stuck at 46% – he’s got about that in every single election.

Whereas we’re seeing now Kamala Harris getting more than Hillary Clinton from when she lost, but on the other hand less in the polls than what Joe Biden got what he won.

In those swing states, basically, if one side wins, then they win.

But what we got at the moment is a bit of a split in the polls.

In the last couple of hours Harris has been ahead in Michigan, she’s ahead in Pennsylvania, she’s ahead in Wisconsin, she’s ahead in Nevada.

But she is behind in Arizona and Georgia, which Biden won.

She’s also behind in North Carolina.

So that does suggest there is everything to play for.

TRIBUTES have been paid to a man and woman killed in a horror motorway crash which also claimed the lives of two kids ‘as they returned from Legoland.’

Another lad, aged seven, who was also in the motor was the sole survivor of the head-on smash near Tebay Services in Cumbria on the M6 on Tuesday afternoon.

It’s been reported the car was returning from a trip to Legoland in Windsor, Berks.

Wagamama CEO Thomas Heier told the BBC that Mr Rossa’s colleagues in the Silverburn shopping centre restaurant in Glasgow were “heartbroken” and called him a “cherished chef and friend”.

Mr Rossa has yet to be formally identified by police but his employer released a statement paying tribute to him and the “huge impression” he had made while working at Wagamama over the last eight years.

He said: “His warmth, dedication and kindness are the characteristics of Jaroslaw that will stay with the team long after his passing.

“We send our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family, for which we know he was deeply devoted to.

“Jaroslaw, you will live in our hearts and minds forever.”

Maggie Snodgrass, 54, who knew spa therapist Jade, has since paid tribute to the mum.

She told The Times: “I just cannot believe it. It is so heartbreaking.
“She was very nice, very pleasant and a quiet lassy. Jade always had a smile on her face.”

An online fundraiser has also been set up to support Jade’s family with nearly £4,000 donated to the GoFundMe page already.

Last night, it emerged the boy is still in a serious condition after he was recovered from the wreckage and airlifted to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

A 40-year-old man who was behind the wheel of a Skoda that collided with the Toyota was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The motorist, from Cambridgeshire, was driving the wrong way down the northbound carriageway moments before the horror unfolded.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on the busy route when the alarm was raised around 4pm on Tuesday.

A section of the northbound carriageway was closed overnight as mercy crews attended the scene and Cumbria Police crash investigators carried out enquiries.

Premier League trials radical new corner rule endorsed by Gary Neville that will prevent ‘ridiculous situation’

HOWARD WEBB has revealed that the Premier League is trialling a radical new corner rule.

The chief refereeing officer for PGMOL has insisted that the rule will help avoid “ridiculous situations”

If they hold it for too long the opposition will be awarded a corner kick[/caption]

Webb, 53, appeared on the latest episode of Stick To Football by Sky Bet, when he revealed the potential game-changing rule.

The trial is ongoing in Premier League 2 and will punish goalkeepers for holding onto the ball for too long.

Stoppers are only allowed to keep the ball in their hands for six seconds.

However, if they continue to keep the ball and delay the game, the opposing team will be awarded with a corner kick.

He said: “In Premier League 2, they’re trialling something around the goalkeeper holding the ball for more than six seconds.

“If they hold it for eight, and don’t release it, it goes to a corner to the other team.

“After three seconds, the referee counts down, and if the goalkeeper is daft enough to hold onto it, it’ll be a corner.

“That avoids the ridiculous situation where you have an indirect free kick in the six-yard box, and players are chasing out.”

Manchester United legend Gary Neville supported the idea behind the rule put forward by the former Premier League referee.

He said: “I like that. I think we all like that.”

Neville had argued that the delays caused by goalkeepers hogging the ball is something that makes him “crazy”.

He argued: “The biggest delay in the game is when goalkeepers take longer than the six seconds with the ball.

“We talk about delaying the game, a lad like Declan Rice kicked the ball away a touch and to be fair I get the rules, but that’s wasting a millisecond.

“Then you’ve got a situation where goalkeepers are holding the ball for nine, ten seconds, sometimes 13 or 14 seconds – they’re wasting six or seven seconds every time.

“That never gets pulled up and that rule is still in. It drives my crazy.”
