Why Epic Universe will be... epic
The Sun’s Head of Travel Lisa Minot explains what this new theme park means for the industry:
THE astonishing scale of Epic Universe – with five fabulous new lands – will see Universal Resort Orlando challenging its arch rival Walt Disney World like never before.
I’ve always adored Universal’s quirky sense of humour and total immersion. It’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter rewrote the rule book when it came to attention to detail when it launched in 2010 with the incredible Hogsmeade.
No one had done authentic, immersive theme park lands like them before and it saw even the likes of Disney rushing to catch up.
And since then, they have been on a roll with a raft of exciting openings from the thrills of the Velociraptor ride in Jurassic Park to the quite brilliant Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.
With three parks – Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure and now Epic Universe as well as the Volcano Bay water park and eight onsite hotels, you could spend an entire trip just exploring the wonderful worlds.
I can’t wait to see what astonishing new experiences they will deliver with the new park. It’s going to be Epic.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic
The main attraction at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic is the Harry Potter and the Battle of Ministry, set in 1990s London.
Le Cirque Arcanus, will be a full-scale live theatre experience with aerialists, special affects and puppetry.
Cosme Acajor Baguettes Magique will sell wands while food (along with butter beer) are served across stalls such as Café L’Air De La Sirène, Le Gobelet Noir, Bar Moonshine for exclusive beers and the Bièraubeurre Cart.

A DERMATOLOGIST who suffered from hair loss, has revealed the three lifestyle changes she made to make it grow back thick and shiny again.
Dr Aamna Adel specialises in hair loss and suffered from bald spots due to alopecia herself.
Dr Aamna used to suffer from hair loss[/caption] Her hair is now thick and shiny again[/caption]Taking to TikTok, she revealed three things that she now does to ensure that her hair is looking it’s best.
Going To Bed With Wet Hair
Dr Aamna said that she always blow dries her hair before going to bed as hair is most fragile when it’s wet.
“You hair is like a sponge; it absorbs all of that water, expands and just becomes so prone to breakage”, she explained.
She added that going to bed with a wet scalp makes the perfect environment for bacteria and fungus to grow.
Hair Train
Hair training is the idea that you can train your hair to produce less oil by washing it less often.
However, Dr Aamna said that she thinks this is a “crazy concept”, as oil production on the scalp is regulated by hormones.
“Whether you wash your hair five times a week or once a month, it’s not going to reduce the amount of oil your scalp is producing”, she explained.
She added that by not washing your hair, you are creating a build-up of hair products that could lead to hair loss.
Olive Oil
Dr Aamna said that some people put olive oil on their scalp if they have dry and flaky skin.
However, she revealed that this could actually make it worse, by causing fungus to thrive.
She said that sticking to an anti-dandruff shampoo is a much better solution.
Dr Aamna’s (@aamnaadel) video has likely left many people impressed, as it has racked up over one million views.
TikTok users raced to the video’s comments section to share their thoughts.
The 4 stages of the hair growth cycle
Hair experts at Philip Kingsley shared the four stages of the hair growtn cycle are: Anagen, Catagen, Telogen and Exogen
Anagen Phase: Also known as the ‘Growth Phase’ or ‘Active Phase’, is when the cells in the root of your hair are most rapidly dividing so more new hair is formed.
During the Anagen Phase, hair grows around half an inch a month [about six inches a year], and faster in the summer than in winter.
This phase of the hair growth cycle lasts an average of three to five years.
Catagen Phase: Following the Anagen Phase, your hair cycle enters a short transitional phase known as the Catagen Phase, which signals the end of active hair growth and cuts individual hairs off from the blood supply and from the cells that produce new hair.
Approximately three percent of all hairs are in this stage at any time and it lasts for around 10 days.
Telogen Phase: The third stage of your natural hair growth cycle is the Telogen Phase, a resting period when strands remain in their follicles but are not actively growing.
An estimate of 10-15 percent of your hairs are in the Telogen Phase at any given moment.
The Telogen Phase lasts around three months or 100 days.
Exogen Phase: The final stage of the Hair Growth Cycle, when individual hair strands are released from their follicles and fall out.
Now the whole process begins again.
One person said: “I’ve been saying number two for ages.
“You’re telling me you’re sleeping with dirty hair and thinking that gunk isn’t getting on your pillow and then your face?”
Another person said: “Fine, I’ll stop going to sleep with wet hair.
“But I’m still only washing once a week.”
A third person added: “Yes, going to sleep with wet hair is the worst!”.

Perrie Edwards pulls out of Radio 1 performance after Liam Payne’s tragic death
PERRIE Edwards has pulled out of a radio appearance tomorrow following Liam Payne’s tragic death.
The singer was due to play in BBC Radio One’s Live Lounge, but has made the decision to postpone it.
Perrie Edwards will not be performing tomorrow[/caption] Liam had died at the age of 31[/caption] Perrie and Liam spent a lot of time together over the years[/caption]Radio 1 hosts Rickie, Melvin and Charlie told listeners today. “We’ve just had some news on our show that because of the sad news of Liam Payne earlier we have heard that Perrie is not going to be in the Live Lounge tomorrow.
“She was supposed to be performing but that’s now not happening tomorrow but it will be happening at a later date.”
Perrie famously dated and was engaged to Liam’s bandmade Zayn Malik, so spent a lot of time with the singer.
She appeared on X Factor with Little Mix just one year after Liam and One Direction.
The groups spent a lot of time together and Perrie also has a close friendship with Cheryl, the mother of Liam’s son Bear.
I know why Meghan & Harry snapped up European bolthole… they’re set on following in royal pal’s footsteps, says expert
AN expert has revealed why Meghan and Harry have snapped up a European bolthole – following in a royal’s pal’s footsteps.
The couple have reportedly bought a home in Portugal after they were evicted from Frogmore Cottage in Windsor two years ago.
Prince Harry and Meghan are said to have splashed out on a home in Portugal[/caption] The couple moved to the US in 2020[/caption] King Charles evicted Harry and Meghan from Frogmore Cottage two years ago[/caption]They have reportedly been staying with Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank at their holiday home in Melides on Portugal’s Atlantic coast.
It is understood Harry and Meghan also went house hunting during the three-night break.
Royal expert Hugo Vickers told The Sun: “There are two reasons why Harry and Meghan might go to Portugal.
“One of them is the one that you mentioned that because he’s very close to Princess Eugenie, his cousin.
“They get on very well together. They seem to be the main members of the family who are still very much in touch with Prince Harry.
“The other reason is that there is always this fear that if Donald Trump gets re-elected as President, he will move Prince Harry from America.
“It’s exactly the sort of thing that he would do, because first of all, it would show his strength and his power. To show that he can do it.
“He has been irritated, I think, in the past by things that Meghan Markle has said about him, and probably Prince Harry as well.
“He would be completely in his rights to do that, and so they might be looking for an alternative residence.”
The purchase may allow the Sussexes to acquire a “Golden Visa”, where they would have access to the EU’s Schengen area.
It would give them a base to stop off at whenever they make transatlantic flights to see friends and family or appear at events.
Hugo added: “Portugal’s very accessible to all parts of Europe, whereas California is a long way away.
“Maybe he doesn’t like the Californian way of life, I would imagine that would be quite alien to him.
“So I think there are many other reasons why he might wish to settle there.
“It may just be that they want an alternative, an extra home, to go to in the summer.
“If they’re making lots of money, maybe they can afford to have two bases.
“He may well have enormous advantages, probably from the tax point of view, and also from cost of living.
“Food in Portugal is very, very reasonably priced, and I can see many reasons why he would find that advantageous.
“Obviously, Portugal is really right in the center of things. You can get anywhere very quickly from Portugal. It’s very accessible.”
ROYAL PALS
The expert added that Princess Eugenie could be key to Harry’s plans to re-enter the royal fold.
Hugo said: “It’s very striking that Eugenie and Prince Harry have this great bond of friendship.
“Certainly she’s been over to California. We’ve seen pictures of her with him.
“Obviously she is right in there, and that has to be a really good thing, because she’s a very nice girl, and they get on well together.
“We don’t know to what extent there is any sort of relationship between Harry and the King at the moment.
“I mean, the King’s got a lot of things to get on with. Apart from getting well, he’s got his big tour to Australia.
“He’s got all the things that kings have to do, and I suspect the message we’re getting is that Harry just needs to sort himself out.
“I mean, the King’s not going to waste much time concerning himself with his issues.
“But he’s left the door wide open for him should Harry ever wish to return.”
HARRY’S TRIPS
The couple’s Portugal break comes after they attended the Invictus Games in Germany before heading back to the US to see their children Archie, five, and three-year-old Lilibet.
They are understood to have flown from Dusseldorf to Lisbon before driving an hour south to the coastal town of Melides, in the Alentejo region.
Earlier this year, they undertook two “faux royal” trips to Africa and Colombia.
Since then Harry has been on his own solo world tour, including stop offs in New York, the UK and a return to Africa.
It comes as the King and Queen Camilla are heading to Australia and Samoa tomorrow for an action-packed nine days.
Their trip comes six years after Meghan and Harry’s high profile trip Down Under which is said to have “broken” the couple.
According to a royal expert the Sussexes’ trip became a “catalyst” for leaving their roles as senior working roles and relocating to America.
They stepped down as working royals in March 2020 and have since fuelled a major rift with many members of the Firm thanks to controversial tell-all interviews and Harry’s memoir Spare.
FROGMORE COTTAGE
The late Queen Elizabeth II gave Frogmore Cottage in Windsor to the Sussexes in 2018 as a wedding present.
It was leased to Eugenie and her husband in 2020 after the Sussexes moved to the US.
The Duke and Duchess purchased their first home together, a sprawling, nine-bedroomed property in Montecito, California, in June 2020 for $14.6 million (£11.2 million).
The 16-bath home is located in a star-studded enclave in California and sits on 5.4 acres of land.
Fit for royalty, it features a library, office, spa, gym, game room, wine cellar and five-car garage, it’s believed.
The estate also boasts sweeping lawns, tiered rose gardens, tall Italian cypress trees, blooming lavender, olive trees, a tennis court, tea house, children’s cottage and a pool.
There is even a chicken coop with “Archie’s Chick Inn”, which has rescue hens.
Despite the home sounding like a dream pad, it does come with a lot of work, according to Eric Bramlett, realtor and owner of Bramlett Residential in Austin, Texas.
Speaking to Fabulous, Eric shared: “Managing a $14million mansion like Harry and Meghan’s in Montecito takes a lot of work.
“Even for modern luxury homes that big, you need a good-sized staff and high operating costs.
“A house with 9 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a pool, tennis court, and guesthouse probably needs around 10-15 full-time staff.
“That could include housekeepers, a house manager, private chef, and likely some security because they are famous.
“Just paying the staff salaries, utilities, landscaping, maintenance, security, and more could easily cost hundreds of thousands per year.
“Big renovations and repairs like roofing, HVAC, appliances would cost even more sometimes.”
He added that the grounds – including the pool, trees and tennis court – will require groundsmen and professional help.
Eric continued: “It’s like running a small boutique hotel with residential service.”
The Sun has contacted the Sussexes’ representatives for comment.
‘Give him the match now,’ says commentator as darts star achieves rarely-seen feat
A DARTS star achieved a rarely-seen feat as one commentator declared: “Give him the match now!”
The amazing incident occurred during the Players Championship match between Adam Hunt and Benjamin Reus.
The latter won the encounter in a thrilling 6-3 darts clash.
But it was Hunt who enjoyed the best moment of the match.
Trailing 5-3 in the final leg, Hunt stepped up to the oche needing a miracle.
The 31-year-old delighted fans as his first dart hit the bullseye.
Hunt then didn’t skip a beat as he launched his second.
Incredibly, it also went bang in the middle of the board.
The room fell into a hush as the enormity of the occasion was realised by Hunt.
He took a moment to adjust himself before returning to firing pose.

And The Hunter made sure to make hit a hat-trick of bullseyes as he smashed the target again.
This led to a raucous celebration from commentator Dan McCarthy.
Booming from behind the mic, he exclaimed: “Oh, why not? Give Adam Hunt the match now!”
Unfortunately for Hunt, he could not close out the leg as Reus wrapped up the win.
The world No125 previously admitted he was desperate to break into the top realm of players.
He said: “I want to be further up the rankings as much as possible.
“I’d love to be back at Ally Pally, that’s the main one. Especially after what happened this year, possibly one of the best World Championships ever.”
The Masked Singer lands TWO new series and a surprise spin off with radio star presenter
THE Masked Singer has been commissioned for another TWO series – and a surprise new spin off programme.
TV presenter Joel Dommett is set to take to TV screens once again to front the sixth series of the hit ITV competition.
The Masked Singer has been commissioned for another two series[/caption] Harriet Rose has landed the spin off show The After Mask[/caption]A host of secret star names are set to take to the stage once again in the ultimate primetime guessing game.
The popular singing programme, which sees celebrities hidden under elaborate character masks, has also secured a seventh season.
On top of this, it will also be getting a new spin off series called The After Mask, hosted by Kiss radio star Harriet Rose.
It will feature interactions with the celebrity panel, host Joel, and unmasking interviews with contestants.
Rose will also provide extra gossip from behind-the-scenes, including insights into the show’s production.
The show will be available across on-demand, social, and digital channels including ITVX and YouTube.
A host of secret star names are set to take to the stage once again in the ultimate primetime guessing game.
Recording for the series of The Masked Singer kicked off on September 24 at Bovingdon Airfield in Hertfordshire, the same location as Dancing On Ice.
The likes of Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan and Jonathan Ross will return.
Filming for the show will take place across eight dates after the commercial broadcaster confirmed there will be another Christmas special.
Four celebrities will once again battle it out in front of the star-studded panel for the holiday crown.
Last year saw McFly singer and guitarist Danny Jones storm to victory as the Piranha.
He beat out the likes of Alex Brooker and noughties star Lemar after Davina McCall correctly guessed the identity of the star name.
This comes after The Sun revealed that there will be a huge change to the panel for the upcoming series.
Last year saw the likes of Nicole Scherzinger, Olly Murs and Jennifer Saunders fill in for Rita Ora on the show as she had other filming commitments in the US.
Rita has been a judge on the celebrity competition programme since its inception in 2020.
Instead, Love Island host Maya Jama is poised to join the panel after Rita Ora quit the show after five series due to a mystery film project.
A TV insider said: “This is a huge deal for Maya, who’s now one of telly’s fastest- rising stars. It puts her in front of a huge Saturday night audience every week on a show watched by everyone from kids to pensioners.
“Up to now she’s had a following which is very young due to Love Island, but signing for The Masked Singer would take her career into a whole new league.”
Rita previously appeared on the panel of The Masked Singer US when she filled in for Nicole Scherzinger.
The former X Factor judge was in the London production of musical Sunset Boulevard.

How we tested
We went on the hunt for the best gin advent calendars money can buy and made sure to test them out in person.
That way we could judge everything from the presentation of the advent calendar, to the variety and flavour of the gins it offers (it’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it).
We rated each one based on aesthetics, the generosity of the gin offering, and value for money.
In the spirit of eco-friendliness, we also took into account how reusable each calendar was, because if you can reuse an advent calendar for years to come, that saves money – and the planet too.
What to look for in a gin advent calendar
Before buying your advent calendar, whether for yourself or for a gift, consider what’s most important to you.
Are you prepared to spend more to have a stunning calendar that will take pride of place on your mantelpiece all of December?
Would you prefer to prioritise the size of each gin bottle over the aesthetics of the calendar?
Do you prefer gin or flavoured gin, or are you open to trying new tastes and flavours?
We’ve included gin calendars of shapes and sizes, suited to a range of budgets.
They include from 12 to 24 bottles of both regular and flavoured gin.
There’s bound to be a calendar to suit your style, budget and taste buds in our round-up.
The verdict: which is the best gin advent calendar for 2024?
For aesthetics and reusability, you can’t beat the Getting Personal Tiny Tipsy Tree Alcohol Advent Calendar.
It’s not cheap, though, so if your budget doesn’t stretch that far, the Drinks By The Dram Gin Advent Calendar is a great all-rounder that looks beautiful too.

Where to buy gin Advent calendars?
There are lots of places you can find gin Advent calendars online as well as in stores.
We recommend shopping online as that’s where you’ll find the largest selection.
Searching for the best gin Advent calendar can feel a little more daunting than shopping for a chocolate version so researching online is also easier.
Plus, internet shopping means you won’t have to suffer the arm ache of carrying your boozy advent calendars home from the store.
The following stockists generally carry a selection of gin Advent calendars:
How much do gin advent calendars cost?
Advent calendars can vary in price, depending on the contents, but boozy Advent calendars are at the higher end of the spectrum.
Gin Advent calendars are available at a range of price points.
For calendars containing 12 mini gins, expect to pay somewhere from £30 to £40.
Gin Advent calendars with 24 mini bottles and a larger selection of flavours will typically cost in the range of £70 to £100.
There are a number of factors which can impact the price, such as the brand, the contents, and the sizes of the gin bottles inside the Advent calendar.
What is a gin Advent calendar?
Much like a chocolate Advent calendar, a gin version will feature a set number of doors for you to open in the run-up to Christmas – each with a treat inside (gin, naturally).
Most gin calendars come with a selection of servings from different artisans and brands, so they’re a great way to sample new flavours or discover your new favourite gin distillery.
Some gin Advent calendars include three, four, 12 or the full 24 samples inside, so every day, or every other day, in the run-up to December 25th, shoppers will open a window to find their surprise tipple inside.
Is Morrisons doing a gin Advent calendar this year?
Unfortunately, the super-popular gin Advent calendar from Morrisons wasn’t available last year, and it’s not looking good for this year either.
However, we’ve contacted Morrisons and will update this page when we can.
For alternatives, check out our gin Advent calendar options above — we think some might tickle your fancy.
Alternatively, Morrisons has an impressive selection of other alcoholic beverages you can shop on their own, such as wine, beer, cider, and bottles of fizz or spirits, they are just not available in an Advent calendar form.
What is the best value gin Advent calendar in 2024?
At under £64.95 with 24 different gins included, we’d opt for That Boutique-y Gin Company’s gin Advent calendar — it’s a value-for-money buy.
