3 weeks agoNewsComments Off on I was axed from one of the biggest shows of the noughties – after nine series it felt mean and unjust
A FORMER star of a hit TV drama has opened up about being written out of the show.
Decorated screenwriter Shonda Rhimes, created US medical drama Grey’s Anatomy back in 2005 and it has aired 20 seasons to date on ABC in the US.
Sarah has opened up about her shock exit in a new interview with a former co-star[/caption]
Sarah Drew played Dr April Kepner on the medical drama for nine seasons, from 2009–2018.
But she was let go from the show after season 14, when her option was not picked up.
During an appearance on the Call It What It Is podcast, co-hosted by Drew’s former co-stars Jessica Capshaw and Camilla Luddington, Drew explained how badly she felt about leaving the show, which is available to watch in the UK on Disney+.
She said: “[I] was unceremoniously let go in a way that felt mean and unjust, and because of that, the outpouring of love was so enormous it was like you were sitting there watching people [eulogize you],”
After the news broke that Sarah and Jessica were exiting the medical drama in the same season, Sarah took to social media to address her fans and posted: “I know you’re sad. I’m sad too, I haven’t really had the time to process this information.
“I’ve been with it for less than 48 hours, so I’m not ready to say my thank yous and give an all-encompassing statement about my 9 years here.”
Sarah briefly returned to the show three seasons later and told the podcast hosts: “I have no attachment to [the show] at all. I had zero anxiety.
“I don’t need anything from anyone on that set anymore. They’re not responsible for my livelihood anymore. They’re not responsible for my success or my joy… I’m like, ‘Hey, this is a fun spot to come visit.”
The star also revealed that her character originally was supposed to have a one-night stand with Eric Dane’s Mark Sloan.
She said: “Before they made my character love Jesus and a virgin, there’s a scene where Sloan and Reed [Nora Zehetner] have sex, a random one-night stand. That was supposed to be me originally. It was supposed to be April.”
It is not the first time someone has felt bad about the way they exited Grey’s Anatomy.
Eric Dane, who nowadays stars opposite Zendaya in HBO teen drama Euphoria, played Dr. Mark Sloan, aka ‘McSteamy’ for six seasons as a regular.
He departed the show in season nine, after Mark succumbed to injuries sustained in a plane crash at the end of season eight.

COLD Autumn nights are officially upon us, prompting many to look for ways to heat their homes on a budget.
Popping the central heating on to dry clothes or keep yourself warm can become costly, especially now Ofgem‘s latest price cap means electricity will rise by £149 a year.
People will be looking for cheap ways to heat their homes this winter.[/caption]
Gadgets such as heated blankets and airers can be cost-effective ways to keep your home warm without racking up a hefty bill.
This week, Aldi will be selling an array of heating products at a bargain price for shoppers.
It’s part of the German discounters ‘Special Buy’ range.
These are unique products that are sold by Aldi each Thursday and Sunday, while stocks last.
The goods are sold on a first-come, first-served basis meaning once they’re gone they’re gone.
The Sun has rounded up all the heating tools coming to Alid in just a matter of days.
However, it’s worth bearing in mind that stock may vary from store to store.
If you have your heart set on one item in particular it may be worth ringing up your local sites to avoid disappointment.
Superfoil Radiator Reflector – £9.99
This highly reflective foil works by bouncing heat back into the room.
The reflector Aldi plans to sell claims to cut heat loss by up to 86% and comes with enough cover for three radiators.
You will need to cut the foil to fit the size of your radiator and slide the foil behind it to get the full effects.
This foil also comes with built-in adhesive strips which should make the process easier.
It will be in Aldi from October 20.
Kirkton House Fan Heater – £24.99
An electric fan heater can be a cost-effective to keep warm as the nights get colder.
These are portable devices as well, so you could travel from room to room with this heater.
Aldi will be selling electric fan heaters to customers from October 20 as part of its Special Buy range.
They will cost £24.99 and can run at either 1000W or 2000W, meaning it costs around 22p or 45p to run an hour.
Heated Airer – £34.99
Aldi’s heated airer is a sell-out anytime it lands in stores.
The £34.99 device comes with 18 heated bars and can hold 18kg worth of clothes.
Heated airers can save money on your energy bill as it offers a cheaper alternative to drying your clothes on the radiator.
You have to plug it in to get the heating effect from the product.
Other retailers such as Dunelm and John Lewis sell similar products but they can cost upwards of £100.
If you do not manage to get your hands on one from Aldi do not worry, as The Sun found a very similar product from Amazon for the same price.
Aldi will be selling the heated airers from Sunday, October 20.
The retailer will also be selling a larger version of the device for £74.99 on the same day.
Kirkton House Oil Filled Radiator – £29.99
Aldi will be selling oil-filled radiators in its stores from October 20.
The device features an adjustable thermostat control with three heat settings and overheat protection.
It also comes with a built-in carry handle that allows for easy transportation around the house.
It also costs just 20p per hour to run, helping to cut costs on your energy bill.
If you do not manage to get your hands on the Aldi heater, Screw Fix is selling a similar device for £29.99.
Dehumidifier – £44.99
Homes are at risk of developing mould over the winter because of condensation and heavy rainfall.
However, dehumidifiers can help remove dampness from your home and can prevent the growth of mould.
They can also be great for helping clothes dry quicker when placed near your airer.
This is because it can help suck the moisture of your clothes helping them dry at a faster pace.
Aldi’s dehumidifier can collect two litres of water, making it one of the smaller dehumidifiers on the market.
But it could be a cheaper alternative to pricier alternatives on the market.
For example, Argos is selling a three-litre dehumidifier for £70.
Silentnight Thermal Mattress Cover -£11.99
Aldi will also be selling Silentnight thermal mattress covers on Thursday, October 17 for £11.99.
These sheets fit a king-size bed and add an extra three tog of warmth beneath you.
They will also be selling a smaller double-sized cover for £9.99.
The Sun looked online and found the Silentnight website is selling this product for £29 for the king and £28 for the double.
How to save money at Aldi
Unlike other major grocers, Aldi does not have a rewards or point card system but that does not mean you cannot save on your shop.
Every week the store releases a list of special buys, which are unique bargain products you find online at Aldi and in-store.
The store releases a fresh range of deals every Thursday and Sunday, so be sure to check regularly to see what’s new.
Meanwhile, the store also regularly sells fruit and vegetables at highly discounted prices, as part of its ‘super six’ deal.
It also does weekly saving offers on typically pricey items such as meat and fish.
How to bag a bargain
SUN Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to find a cut-price item and bag a bargain…
Sign up to loyalty schemes of the brands that you regularly shop with.
Big names regularly offer discounts or special lower prices for members, among other perks.
Sales are when you can pick up a real steal.
Retailers usually have periodic promotions that tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout and shop when these deals are on.
Sign up to mailing lists and you’ll also be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.
When buying online, always do a search for money off codes or vouchers that you can use vouchercodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk are just two sites that round up promotions by retailer.
Scanner apps are useful to have on your phone. Trolley.co.uk app has a scanner that you can use to compare prices on branded items when out shopping.
Bargain hunters can also use B&M’s scanner in the app to find discounts in-store before staff have marked them out.
And always check if you can get cashback before paying which in effect means you’ll get some of your money back or a discount on the item.

Nick, 40, filmed his impressive hair-revamp in a video posted to his Instagram Stories page where he gushed “Ooh that texture.”
The Dish podcast host captured his new look on his phone while London-based stylist Ricky Walters held a mirror behind his head.
As he swirled around on the chair A-list stylist Ricky said: “Is that a little texture I see? Hello!
“Ooh yeah look at that texture. Look at those layers!”
Nick, giggling at the pair’s light-hearted banter, repeated his words and added: “Bloody hell.”
In his caption, he added: “I love my haircut and your nonsense, dream afternoon with TEXTURE fan.”
TOP CLASS
Ricky owns Salon64 in London’s Bateman Street, Soho, and is no stranger to a celeb client.
He previously exclusively said he would love to get his hands on X Factor judge Simon Cowell’s barnet.
Ricky also admitted he would also love to give former Prime Minister Boris Johnson a much-needed mega hair makeover.
“If I could pick any celebrity to do next – I would pick Simon Cowell.
“I reckon he has quite tough hair, I’d like to have a go at it.
“I feel like I could get my hands on his hair and do a good fade on that head of hair.”
Ricky, who started his hairdressing career at the age of 16 in a small salon in Pinner, said he’d also work his magic on some of the world’s most famous politicians.
“I’d like to do Boris Johnson and Donald Trump’s hair – I think these guys could all do with a little bit of attention,” he laughed.
His Instagram page describes him as a “builder of brands. Cutter of hair. Professional conversationalist.”

Ricky’s success comes after he left school with no GCSEs.
He previously explained: “The shock of entering the real world at 16 with no qualifications partnered with my love of the idea of earning my own income was a wake-up call.
“I completed my training in a Mayfair hair salon first, and then moved to a likeminded competitor to start building a client base.
“So I was cutting hair within a five star London hotel, rubbing shoulders with plenty of people of influence and celebrities.”
Now at the top of his game, his graft has paid off.

Visitors can indulge in some festive cheer, paired with Greggs’ famous bakes.
Customers can sip on a selection of top-tier Champagnes, with glasses starting at just £10 for a taste of Ca’ di Alte Prosecco, or go all out with a luxurious £75 glass of Louis Roederer Cristal.
Those looking for a fancy treat can splash out on a whole bottle of Cristal for a whopping £425.
This concept follows the success of last year’s Greggs Bistro at Fenwick, which attracted more than 8,000 visitors in just one month.
Diners enjoyed a unique twist on festive fare, featuring the popular festive bake alongside duck fat roasties, smoked pancetta, chestnuts, and sprouts.
This year’s menu, which runs until the end of December, has been crafted by Fenwick’s executive head chef Mark Reid in collaboration with Greggs.
The exclusive menu will only be available at the Fenwick’s Newcastle champagne bar and not chain stores.
Highlights include a steak bake served with a peppercorn aioli for just £4.95, and of course a hearty sausage, bean, and cheese melt with bloody Mary ketchup for £4.50.

Reservations are required, and the bar will be open from 11.30AM until the store closes at 7pm.
Hannah Squirrell, Greggs’ customer director said: “While Champagne and Greggs might not be the most immediate food and drink pairing, we’re thrilled to launch the Greggs Champagne Bar at Fenwick.
“We hope everyone who visited us last year—and many more—will enjoy this fun and unique experience, discovering that a chilled glass of Champagne alongside a sausage roll is the hottest ticket in Toon for 2024.”
Leo Fenwick, strategic partnerships director at Fenwick, added: “After the phenomenal success of last year’s Bistro Greggs at Fenwick, we’re proud to partner with Greggs once again to launch the Champagne Bar.

WITH the colder weather sweeping in, it’s not just the thought of putting the heating on that people are worrying about.
Many households are already struggling to banish condensation on their windows since the arrival of autumn.
Condensation can be a huge problem at this time of year[/caption]
People are racing to buy interior dehumidifiers to absorb excess water in their homes[/caption]
People are stocking up with huge multi-packs of the gadgets[/caption]
The interior dehumidifiers work out at just 82p each if you buy in bulk[/caption]
Windows often serve as moisture hot spots, even in homes fitted with double or triple glazing.
But some savvy shoppers have found a bargain buy that can solve the problem without affecting their energy bills.
The interior dehumidifiers are being hailed as the “best thing” for banishing condensation and avoiding any mouldy or damp spots in your home.
A 40-pack of the interior dehumidifiers are currently on offer for £32.99 on TikTok Shop, where shoppers have been raving over them.
By buying in bulk, it also works out at just 82p per item.
Each tub contains hydrophillic crystals which help to absorb and retain moisture from the air.
This, in turn, reduces the risk of any damp, mildew, mould or condensation.
It’s easy to use too. All you have to do is remove the seal and you’re good to go.
So it’s no wonder the interior dehumidifiers have already racked up countless five-star reviews from satisfied customers.
One gushed: “I use these tbh one of the best things, I put one in each room and even bathroom as well. It works!”
“These are amazing I use them all the time”, chimed in a second.
A third wrote: “Started using these a few years ago.
“Place one in each room. Used to have a problem with damp and mould in some rooms in my flat, but these seemed to have helped!”
A fifth insisted: “Worth every penny.”
Meanwhile, a sixth said: “We buy these! It’s insane how much moisture is in each room!!”
If you fancy getting your hands on a small crystal dehumidifier for your home, but don’t use TikTok Shop, don’t worry – there are plenty of other stockists to choose from.
Whilst large dehumidifiers can turn out to be quite pricey, the small ones can be found in Poundland for only 80p, at Asda for £1.25 and at The Range for just £1.49.
What is mould and how to get rid of it?
Mould is more likely to grow during the winter months.
Olivia Young, Product Development Scientist at Astonish revealed exactly why this is.
“Unfortunately, mould is a common problem many people face during winter. It thrives in conditions that are warm and damp, so your bathrooms are likely to be the most affected place.
“That said, during the colder months most rooms in your home could be vulnerable to mould growing.
“This occurs primarily from condensation that builds up on your windows when you’ve got your radiators on.
“If you think about it, when windows and doors are closed, there’s not much chance for the air to circulate and the moisture to make a swift exit.
“This build up is what can cause dreaded mould to make an appearance, especially in bathrooms, as it creates that warm and wet environment that is a breeding ground for mould.
“If left untreated, not only is it unsightly but it can also pose a serious risk to your health, so it’s really important you treat it.
“The key to tackle mould is to act fast.
“Try to come into as little contact with it as you can. So, grab your gloves, tie up your hair and get to work to remove any signs of mould as soon as you notice them.
“To keep mould at bay, there are some simple solutions you can introduce throughout home.
“The first is keep it ventilated. Yes, even in the cold winter months try to leave your bathroom window open for at least 10/15 minutes post shower or bath. This will get rid of any excess moisture quickly preventing mould gathering.
“If you’re having a repeat problem with mould in one particular area, it might be because the humidity levels are too high. You can get a dehumidifier that will help keep the levels low and reduce the risk of mould returning.
“The golden rule to remember when dealing with mould is the quicker you can treat it, the better. If you leave it, it will only get worse so never ignore it!
“To successfully get rid of mould every time, I recommend opting for the UK’s No 1 Mould & Mildew Remover, that effectively removes mould and mildew stains almost instantly, with no scrubbing necessary.”

KENDALL Jenner was seemingly snubbed by the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, with fans sure that they’ve uncovered the real reason.
Last night (October 15), some of the most famous fashion models sashayed up and down the catwalk for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Kendall Jenner was noticeably absent from the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show earlier this week[/caption]
Kendall walked for the brand back in 2018[/caption]
Kendall walked for the brand several times, with her absence on Tuesday night causing a stir among her fans[/caption]
In 2018 she posed on the runway with Gigi Hadid[/caption]
But Kendall Jenner’s name was seemingly left off of the guestlist, with fans spotting this before the show began.
The likes of Gigi Hadid, Kate Moss, Tyra Banks, Ashley Graham, Adriana Lima and Bella Hadid were all in attendance to stomp down the pink runway, with Kendall nowhere to be seen.
Ahead of the runway commencing, fans and critics of the Kardashian-Jenner clan took to Reddit to note how Kendall’s name was not on the list of models taking part.
“Where’s Kendall?” asked one Reddit user above a “confirmed” list of models who were due to walk for the fashion show.
Fans and critics of the model were quick to speculate the reasons behind why Kendall was not on the confirmed models’ list, with conflict of interest and anxiety among the reasons they were convinced of.
One person wrote, “Kendall is modeling for L’oréal and Tommy Hilfiger now. She’s in her the villages, Florida USA retirement era.”
Another person echoed, “Maybe her contract with Loreal excludes her from participating in the VSFS?”
TOO ANXIOUS?
A third person then spoke of Kendall’s anxiety and speculated that she was maybe “too anxious” to take part.
“Maybe she felt a little overwhelmed and decided to opt-out, 2 shows a season can be too much for her lmao,” said a fourth.
Kendall previously revealed that she has suffered from anxiety since she was seven years old, with her opening up about her current anxiety struggle back in May.
Speaking to Vogue, Kendall said, “I’m way more anxious than usual. So I’m not going to sit here and act like everything’s perfect.
“That’s life – I’m always going to be in and out of those feelings. In past interviews, when someone’s asked me about my mental state, it’s always been, ‘I’m great right now, but this is what I’ve dealt with.’ Well, right now I’m actually in it.”
A fifth person then continued to speculate on Reddit and said that the model “once whined during an interview how other models excluded and laughed about her after she made remarks mocking the model industry, acting like it’s an easy and boring job and behaving like her usual, spoiled self”.
They then went on to say how they watched the show and was “not surprised she wasn’t there”.

FANS CALL FOR KENDALL’S RETURN
Meanwhile, fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, have also been wondering why Kendall was left out of the show, with speculation rife.
“Was Kendall not invited to vsfs?” asked one.
“hmm no Kendall Jenner this vsfs 2024?!” asked a second.
While a third pleaded, “We need Kendall Jenner and Gisele Bundchen for [the] next Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.”

However, before taking the job he was one of the biggest names linked with the Man Utd job amid the pressure hanging over Erik ten Hag.
Asked about why he opted for England over United, Tuchel appeared lost for words at first as he only answered with an “umm”.
After hesitating for a moment, he said: “Because the idea… and the way Mark and John [McDermott] presented it was very fast, very exciting, very confidential and trustful.
“That was a decision for this job, and not against anyone else. I will not comment on any other clubs.”
In a social media video before the press conference, Tuchel said he wanted to “get a second star” for England – as in win the World Cup.
A reporter said: “Good luck,” in response to Tuchel’s declaration before offering an apology following a moment of awkwardness.
Tuchel managed England captain Harry Kane at club level last season, but has revealed he did not consult the former Tottenham ace before taking the job.
Inside FA's thrilling chase for Tuchel
THE FA’s path to securing Thomas Tuchel's signature was not a straightforward one.
They tried to lure Pep Guardiola from Manchester City over the summer.
They even made contact with Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti after deciding to target trophy-laden foreign gaffers.
The FA’s determination to go international was summed up by their decision NOT to interview Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.
Initial talks with Tuchel saw him express a slight interest in replacing Gareth Southgate.
But he was waiting to see what would happen at Manchester United, with Erik ten Hag’s future under the spotlight.
Man Utd owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe eventually decided to stick with Ten Hag – and that opened the door to the FA getting their man.
Another flashpoint saw Tuchel asked a question in German.
He was asked how he would win over any grumbling England supporters that wanted a homegrown coach, before answering in English: “Everyone has their opinion and I can understand when someone says they would fancy an English coach more for the English team.
“I can understand it, but I think we deserve a fair chance. We deserve it for having a good record, for never being shy of how much we love living here and working with Premier League players.
“Maybe this counts a little bit for a British edge on my German passport, so we will try to convince [the fans] by results and how we play.”
ANDY DILLON: Thomas Tuchel has all the ingredients to become a classic England manager – tactical nous, drive and a tangled love life
By Andy Dillon
THOMAS TUCHEL possesses all the ingredients to become a classic England manager.
Tactical nous, drive, energy, experience – a tangled love life.
English football should welcome back the most explosive, dynamic, charismatic and impossibly tall and gangly coach to have lit up the Premier League.
Chelsea’s colourful former boss has been leading a settled life in Munich of late.
Far enough away from ex-wife Sissi but close enough to see his two daughters.
Walking his dog in the streets in the east of Germany’s most fashionable city, residing in the posh Bogenhausen area. Living relatively quietly with his Brazilian girlfriend.
Tuchel is a vastly different personality to the man who led England quietly but assuredly to the brink of World Cups and European Championships.
An excitable nature can make him hard to handle for those seeking calm and who like to impose their way on a manager they view very much as an underling.
