Monique Muller – the ex-girlfriend of media personality Katlego Maboe – has shared pics of the alleged physical abuse she suffered at the hands of him.
The gender-based violence activist also defended NGO Women For Change, who she claimed came to her assistance during her experience.
In 2020, Monique was granted a protection order against Katlego after she accused him of domestic abuse. Katlego was also accused of being unfaithful and allegedly giving her an STI.
Two years later, both parties “set aside” the lawsuit. Katlego has since made a “comeback” after taking a hiatus.
MONIQUE MULLER POSTS PICS OF ALLEGED ABUSE BY KATLEGO MABOE
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Monique Muller called out critics of Women For Change who have started a petition to ban Chris Brown, a convicted abuser, from entering SA.
Monique added that the anti-GBV organisation had assisted her in her time of need, offering legal counsel and emotional support.
She said: “What is happening to Women For Change is horrific because it is actually an organisation doing a lot of work in this country.
“It’s one thing to want to support your favourite artist, but you are being a bully and becoming abusive like Chris Brown.
“So many people are willing to fight a fight for someone who is not even relevant to their lives, yet South Africa is relevant to our lives. Women live this every day”.
Monique Muller – who shares a son with Katlego Maboe – went on to post images of her alleged abuse.
She captioned the pics: “I used to be embarrassed by these images…until I realise the shame was never mine to carry
The Cape Town woman continued: “Victims are human beings. If you can only imagine the pain of an experience like that, you’d think twice about making comments.
Hinting at her own experience, she added: “Evidence is not enough. Not for the court of public opinion or the courts. We have to constantly relive that trauma.
“Remember that the next time you stand up for an abuser. I was a victim, and I survived; I’ve got battle scars”.
The South African has reached out to Katlego Maboe for comment. None has been receieved at the time of publishing.
‘NOT ACQUITTED’
Speaking to The South African, Women For Change founder Sabrina Walter claimed that reports by Katlego Maboe’s legal team that he had been acquitted were “fabricated.”
She said: “The case was set aside by agreement. The ruling wasnt no grounds, and it was also not withdrawn. He was never acquitted of those charges”.
In 2020, a video filmed by Monique Muller of ex-Katlego confessing to having an affair during their relationship went viral.
The TV presenter admitted to cheating on Monique with another woman. Monique also accused Katlego of giving her an STI and abusing her physically – the latter of which resulted in a protection order against the star.
Katlego – who was pulled from his TV gigs and endorsements – admitted to the infidelity however denied physically assaulting Monique.
Katlego then sued Monique, her brother Seth Muller, and Sabrina Walters for R1 million each, alleging they “ruined” his career. He also demanded that all parties apologise and retract their allegations.
In 2022, Monique’s lawsuit was “set aside” by mutual agreement. Katego returned to his position as Expresso host in August 2023.
