IS FORMER ORLANDO PIRATES STAR BEN MOTSHWARI NOW A TAXI OWNER?
Social media was abuzz after several tabloids reported that the AmaZulu midfielder had spread his wings to transport and logistics, majoring in taxis.
Football tabloid Mzansi Football first shared the news on Facebook. The tabloid has it that Ben Motshwari shared a subtle Instagram post seemingly showing off a new taxi.
Rumour mill said he was in the now-deleted photo beside a new taxi. However, with the cryptic caption, many were convinced it was his latest acquisition.
However, against the news, the star is yet to confirm whether he has ventured into the taxi business. After all, the taxi industry generates billions annually.
MAKING HEADLINES
Surprisingly, The South African has established that this is not the first time Ben Motshwari has made similar headlines.
In 2021, he left social media in stitches when he was hilariously spotted behind the wheel of a local taxi.
After all, footballers are known for their many talents, which go beyond the field of play.
Against the viral video, Mzansi was more than convinced Ben Motshwari was a good taxi driver. At the time, unconfirmed reports made it known that he used to drive taxis before.
Apart from the rumoured taxi, the star reportedly has a fleet of German automobiles. He has been spotted driving around in several BMWs, including a customised 3-series.
IS THE INDUSTRY STILL PROFITABLE LIKE BEFORE?
However, reports have shown that the taxi business in South Africa is no longer profitable.
Over the years, the industry has dealt with several inconveniences, from rising costs of buying taxis to high interest rates.
However, new market entrants, including e-hailing and Bus Rapid Transport (My Citi), now command more customers than before.
The SA government has signalled an appetite for assisting the industry with various programmes aimed at growing the industry.
Programmes such as the National Taxi Recapitalisation and the Covid taxi relief fund are some of the programs being implemented to save the taxi industry.
