Former Orlando Pirates striker lands in Cape Town

Orlando Pirates’ former attacker Kermit Erasmus is still without a club. This update suggests a new move can be expected soon.

ORLANDO PIRATES EXIT

Despite a hugely exciting return to the Buccaneers in 2023, the 33-year-old from Gqeberha spent rather too much time injured and on the bench.

Erasmus later trained with SuperSport United and Cape Town City, but unfortunately, no deal was struck with either club.

According to the latest report, the former Orlando Pirates striker has started to train with Motsepe Foundation Championship giants Cape Town Spurs.

“Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Kermit Erasmus has been spotted at Cape Town Spurs as his search for a new club continues,” iDiski Times’ Sinethemba Makonco reported.

“Information received by this publication states that Erasmus is currently training with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side having arrived this morning at Ikamva. At this stage, there haven’t been talks of a contract.

“The 34-year-old was released within the past transfer window, and is now free to join a team of his choice on a free transfer,” Makonco concluded.

WIN OVER RICHARDS BAY

Orlando Pirates head coach has saluted Kabelo Dlamini after a wonderful winner over Richards Bay in Durban.

After a game of scarce opportunities, substitute Dlamini stepped up to curl home a free-kick in the 82nd minute to bag all three points at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday.

Speaking to the media after the win, Riveiro said every Orlando Pirates player is expected to be prepared to die for the team.

“Everyone knows KB [Kabelo Dlamini] can put one more gear in the team when needed,” said Riveiro after the match.

“It didn’t work the way we expected to be honest, but it was good enough with KB’s contribution, especially with that excellent goal that gave us the three points.

“It’s important again that everybody on the bench is ready to die for the team when they get to play one minute and today KB was exceptional,” the Orlando Pirates mentor added.

“It’s not easy to play these types of games just before the final as you asked me before the match, and everybody showed today [Sunday] a high commitment to the game, with the result, with the three points. It’s good news,” the Buccaneers tactician concluded.

Coming up next for Orlando Pirates is the MTN8 final against Stellenbosch FC. The game is set for Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium at 18:00.
