‘Give me a decent burial’: Inside Tito Mboweni’s wish

Tito Mboweni’s 2018 tweet has resurfaced after he passed away on Saturday, 12 October at 65 years.

TITO MBOWENI: LAST WISH

The former finance minister, Tito Mboweni’s old tweet reveals his wishes when he could no longer breathe.

In the tweet, Mboweni shares a conversation with his son where he expresses contentment with his life’s achievements.

“My son saw my earlier tweet, and he asked: ‘What else do you want to do?’” reads the tweet.

“Nothing. I have done everything a reasonable human being would have wanted to achieve in life. Just give me a decent burial when my time comes to go. He said, ‘you are going nowhere’. That’s nice from him,” he wrote.

TshisaLIVE reports that Mboweni’s family confirmed in a statement that he passed away after a short illness on Saturday, 12 October evening.

“It is with deep sadness that the Mboweni Family announces the passing of Mboweni.”

“The family is devastated by Governor Mboweni’s passing after a short illness. He passed away in a hospital in Johannesburg on Saturday night, surrounded by his loved ones.”

The family requested privacy saying they were coming to terms with the enormous loss.

The South African will reveal his memorial and funeral details over the next few days.
