‘He’s the best left centre-back in South Africa’ – Hunt on Kaizer Chiefs new signing

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt believes Kaizer Chiefs‘ new signing Rushin Dortley is the best left centre-back in the country.

The 22-year-old Bafana Bafana defender signed with Amakhosi before the start of the season from Cape Town Spurs. Under Nasreddine Nabi, Dortley has formed a formidable pairing with Inacio Miguel at Chiefs this campaign.

Hunt, who has played Kaizer Chiefs twice this season, admitted the Soweto giants have improved this season and also noted how the new signings have helped the team.

“Let’s be honest, he [Nasreddine Nabi] has had an effect on buying new players and obviously coming with [a new technical team],” Hunt said on SoccerBeat.

“He has done a great job, I don’t think they could have gone worse than last year, let’s be honest.

Hunt is a big fan of Kaizer Chiefs defender Dortley

The SuperSport coach said he tried to sign Dortley three years ago but his asking price was too much.

“I mean, we tried to sign Dortley. I tried to sign him three years ago, I think he’s the best left-side centre-back in South Africa. He’s fantastic. He made the difference against us [in the Carling Knockout].

Hunt gets one over Kaizer Chiefs.

“He was the best player for them. I mean, he made interceptions, blocks, headers away and he can play,” Hunt said.

The 60-year-old has had a difficult start to the 2024/25 season so far losing key players. This past Saturday, Hunt’s team finally turned things around when they defeated Kaizer Chiefs at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

How good has Dortley been since joining Chiefs?
