Hollywood megastar Timothee Chalamet doesn’t look much like the heartthrob we all know and love on the set of his new film Marty Supreme.
The 28-year-old Dune hero has swapped his giant worm-fighting robes for a preppy sleeveless jumper, and a mint-green shirt for this new role, which sees him portray professional table tennis player Marty Reisman.
His side profile with this new look – complete with some circular glasses, a very sheer moustache and a comb over – is quite something to behold, and we had to double take.
From the front, the star is a little more recognisable as the man who is dating Kylie Jenner, as he wore 1950s style high-waisted brown trousers for the part alongside some polished tan shoes as he trotted around Manhattan, New York.
Marty Supreme marks director Josh Safdie’s first solo feature, which has a notably star-studded cast with Gwyneth Paltrow – in her first film in five years – and rapper Tyler, The Creator in his film debut.
Details of the project beyond Timothee’s retro look are unclear, but A24 posted an image of a ping pong ball alongside the words: ‘Coming soon.’
While nothing has been confirmed, the film will likely be based on the ping pong player’s life. He won two US men’s singles championships in 1958 and 1960 and over 20 international titles.
Safdie and Ronald Bronstein wrote the script and will produce alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet, and A24.
Fans took to social media to take note that, yes, that is indeed Timothee.
@DarkLonerBoy commented, ‘Looking different,’ while @OyakhilomeR said: ‘He now looks different here…’
Noting his range as an actor and ability to morph into roles, @inge_reinhardt added: ‘Remember, this guy was Bob Dylan a few weeks back.’
‘oh!! the glasses! the hair!!’ raved @starsafairy, while @theiconicashley said: ‘I can barely recognize him omg.’
This role comes for the Dune star after his role as Willy Wonka, and he’s just finished filming A Complete Unknown, which sees him star as music legend Bob Dylan in the much-anticipated biopic.
Fans had ‘no words’ after hearing him sing as the Blowin’ In The Wind hitmaker in the trailer for the upcoming flick, set to be released in the UK in January.
A Complete Unknown will follow the now reclusive musician Dylan from a 19-year-old and his ‘meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts’ up to the singer’s electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.
Elsewhere, Timothee’s name has barely been out of the headlines since he and Kylie sealed their highly-publicised romance with a kiss in September 2023 at a Beyoncé concert.
So far the couple have kept fairly quiet about their romance, despite copious PDA at events like the US Open and the Golden Globes.
‘I just don’t want to talk about personal things,’ Kylie told The New York Times in March.
