Springbok captain Siya Kolisi has revealed that former Sharks and South Africa prop Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira is not good at braaing.
During SuperSport‘s ‘Eben Etzebeth: 128 and Counting‘, Siya said the former Boks prop would often call him to come and braai for all his mates. The two-time Rugby World Cup-winning captain mockingly imitated Beast, stating, “I like to braai but I can’t braai.”
Kolisi and Mtawarira are Springbok legends who played together in two World Cups. Mtawarira retired from professional rugby after winning the 2019 World Cup in Japan, with 117 caps for the Boks.
“Did I tell you about his story about his braai?” Kolisi asked teammate Eben Etzebeth, to which he replied. “You did.”
“Just for the listeners…Beast has a gas braai at his house, I stay in Durban close to him. Tendai Mtawarira tried to braai with a gas braai and he lit the thing and burned his beard and it went up. Since that day, he never braaied again, so whenever he has a braai, he calls me.”
Kolisi tells a funny story about Springbok legend
“He invites people over without telling me and calls me to come to his house. I always ask how many people, and he’s like I have to go buy for him but ja, he’s not so good at braaing,” he said.
Springbok captain Siya Kolisi recently guided his team to the Castle Lager Rugby Championship this past weekend. The Boks defeated Argentina 48-7 to lift the trophy for the first time since 2019.
Should players know how to braai before earning their first Bok cap?
