‘I’m warning Orlando Pirates’, threatens rival CEO

Orlando Pirates will play newcomers Magesi FC on October 19 in the Carling Knockout Cup.

The Soweto Giants have had a flying start to the season, winning the MTN8 cup and their opening three league games.

On the contrary, their upcoming opponents have had a tough start to their PSL journey, sitting 14th on the log with four points in four games.

However, their Chief Executive Officer, John Mathibe, is optimistic his side can cause a David versus Goliath-like upset, telling iDiski Times, “I’m warning [Orlando] Pirates. We have a lot of respect for them, and we, as Magesi FC, would like to congratulate them on their recent victory as MTN8 Champions,

“Dikwena Tša Meetse is taking this game seriously, and we are in a position to make history.

It’s about everything that we have worked for; our players have an opportunity to grow as professionals, and Magesi FC will be taking the brand to another level.

“I want to promise The Chief of Moletjie, his Majesty Kgoshi Kgabo Moloto III (K3), and our supporters that we will give everything that we have on the day.

“To our esteemed Chairman and his family, we want to make you proud. As for Pirates, they have a reputation to protect, but we are ready.”

Kick off it at 15:00.

Orlando Pirates’ recent form

With a 100% win rate in their opening three games, Pirates lie second on the PSL log, tied on points with reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns.

Following their MTN8 cup final win, Spanish tactician Jose Riveiro, told FarPost, “We are celebrating the result, but I think the guys played a brand of football…that is difficult to find in a final. Usually, finals are close, not that open, and also, thanks to Stellenbosch, the way they play, how aggressive they are, and how they want to win the games. It helps to have the opportunity to watch a final this like [entertaining football].

“But from the beginning, I did not have a feeling for a minute that we were not going to make it [win],” added Riveiro.

“And it happened in the last minutes of the game, a crazy moment as we have smart players upfront, and they managed to create a goal out of nowhere.

“This win is history for the club. It is the team that won it for the third time in a row, not Riveiro. It is history for this group of players and everybody around to come to a final again and play at a high level like they did tonight”.
