‘Intimidating’: Ray McCauley’s son on being Rhema’s next leader

Ray McCauley’s son Joshua – who has taken the helm over Rhema Bible Church –  has described following in his father’s footsteps as “incredibly intimidating.” He also claimed that his father seemingly predicted that his time on earth was almost up

The heir of the famous preacher reflected on their relationship and work in the ministry, during a “comfort” service on Thursday, 10 October.

Joshua – the son of Ray and his first wife Lyndie McCauley – took over leadership of the Randburg church in 2022.

Ray will be laid to rest in a funeral service next weekend.

RAY MCCAULEY’S SON REFLECTS ON STRICT DAD

Speaking in the televised service, Joshua revealed how Ray McCauley was still hands-on at the Rhema Bible Church despite his failing health.

Despite stepping down in 2022, Joshua says his dad “preached until he went to be in Jesus.”

He added: “It was incredibly intimidating for me. Because every single Monday, a phone call would come to know and request of me: ‘How many people got saved? I want the numbers’.

“It’s intimidating to be compared to the greatest, in my opinion, soul-winning altar call-giver in the world.”

He joked that he was under pressure to “do my dad justice.

Joshua also recounted how, in the last sermon a fortnight ago, Ray McCauley preached in the “past tense” about his life.

“If you listen carefully, he [Ray] says: ‘It has been a wild ride. He spoke in the past tense as if it had come to completion.”

‘THE BEST IS YET TO COME’

Meanwhile, Ray McCauley’s son Joshua has claimed that his dad gave him his blessing to continue his work at Rhema Bible Church.

In a statement this week, Joshua claimed his dad believed in “honouring the past and pledging loyalty to the future” and that “the best is yet to come.”

Joshua claimed that his dad claim he “carries the vision for the future of the church” and that “God is a generational God whose heart is to see the gospel preached from generation to generation.”

In 2022, Ray handed over the leadership of Rhema Bible Church to Joshua and his wife, Tara.

He announced in a statement at the time: “I believe God has ordained this moment and has raised the next generation to take Rhema Church into the future.

“I am joining everyone at Rhema Church in this transition by giving my full support to Joshua and Tara as we go from strength to strength.”
