JAMES Van Der Beek’s wife Kimberly has posted a sweet tribute to the Dawson’s Creek star after he revealed he’s been diagnosed with cancer.
Last night James, 47, told how he has been living with colorectal cancer but assured fans that “there’s reason for optimism”.
His wife Kimberly, 42, later took to Instagram to share her support for the actor.
She reposted an Instagram upload about songbirds, which read: “Northern cardinals, the ‘romantic’ birds that mate for life, travel together, sing before nesting and feed each other seed beak-to-beak during courtship.”
Kimberly added: “Hi baby. @vanderjames.”
In a statement to People Magazine, James said: “I have colorectal cancer.
“I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family.
“There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good.”
Colorectal cancer develops in the tissues of the colon or rectum, which are both part of the large intestine and the digestive system.
James has continued to work despite his diagnosis, appearing in a recent episode of Walker and a new film for Tubi called Sidelined: The QB and Me, which will be released on November 29.
He is also prioritising time with his large family, having had six children with Kimberly.
James shot to fame in the 90s in teen drama Dawson’s Creek, playing main character Dawson Leery.
The show ran from 1998 until 2003 and also made stars of the likes of Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson.
Last year James dashed fans’ hopes of a reboot when he insisted such a show would be “tricky” to make.
He told Insider: “It would be a tricky thing to do. It was a tricky show to make even back then.
“It was a very, very specific tone, a very specific time. I don’t know what would be replicable or be doable.”
