Kaizer Chiefs coach has reasons to worry about the long break

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi is clearly not happy about the three-week break.

Just when his team was starting to find momentum this season, the Premier Soccer League decided to extend the two-week FIFA break to three weeks. Nabi took over the reins in July and won his first two matches as Amakhosi coach.

Having narrowly lost to Mamelodi Sundowns in their last match, Nabi feels the break might halt Kaizer Chiefs’ progress. The team have scheduled several friendlies in the meantime until the PSL resumes end of October.

“Definitely, we have scheduled some friendly games and amongst the teams that we are going to face, we do have Mamelodi Sundowns,” Nabi told the media.

“But I don’t understand why the league is stopping. We have just started on the 16th of September. We played only three games and now we stop, guys please.”

Since his arrival, Nabi has given youngsters like Mduduzi Shabalala, Wandile Duba, Samkelo Zwane and Mfundo Vilakazi the freedom to shine.

“Duba is conditionally good and has technique and his performance against Sundowns was good. He is also an academy graduate like Shabalala, Vilakazi, Zwane, and a whole lot of others. With Vilakazi, he is a young boy, a big talent, I love him and so I need to protect him,” Nabi said.

Kaizer Chiefs were complimented for their style of football before the FIFA break. Under Nabi, Amakhosi have scored six times in three matches so far this campaign. Chiefs are back in action on 26 October against SuperSport United.

Can Nabi compete for the league?
