As Kaizer Chiefs 2023/24 season wrapped up and Ranga Chivaviro’s lacklustre season concluded, his exit seemed imminent.
However, much to the dismay of fans and the laughter of rivals, they kept the 31-year-old striker and are finally reaping the rewards.
The AmaKhosi faithful were ecstatic following Chivaviro’s signing from Marumo Gallants in 2023, but their feelings turned sour when he netted only four goals in twenty games last campaign.
Ranga redemption
Much to the Chief’s delight, the Limpopo native has turned back the clock, scoring two goals in three games.
He’s become the goal-attacking centre-forward they wished Chivaviro would be—he just needed a year to warm up (apparently).
Reports are circulating that the club is willing to offer him an additional two-year contract; his current one concludes at the end of this season.
A spokesperson told snl24, “In most cases, the club has waited until the last minute to extend player contracts, and they don’t want to do that with Ranga [Chivaviro], and that’s why they may already offer him a new two-year deal. It’s not a done deal, as there is still some work to do,
“What they are doing is to make sure that as they are looking for another striker to sign, maybe in January, they don’t lose the one they have in the team. At the moment in the team, he is the outright striker that the coach is depending on, and a new two-year contract would keep him there even if they sign a new striker”, he added.
Kaizer Chiefs on the right path
Compared to last season, the Cheifs fandom is rocking, and rightly so.
Along with boasting star players all over the pitch, they have a world-class manager.
Only time will tell how well they succeed, but it looks like they’re on the right path for now.
Their new manager, Nabi Nasreddine, has brought new life into the club with his way of doing things impressing ‘keeper Brandon Peterson.
“He Is a coach with principles. He Is a coach that wants you to do what he expects you to do. And he won’t expect you to do something that you can’t do,
“He knows the quality we have at Chiefs and he knows each and every player and what he’s capable of. So for me, it’s the fact of trying to bring that out of a player. And, when it’s time to work, it’s time to work. He’ll be shouting, he’ll be grinding us, but as you can see, it’s paying dividends on the field.
“There’s time to joke, there’s time to have a good time, but when it’s working, it’s about working. And I think the switch up we made as players, it’s a fine line between going out and having fun and when it’s time to work.
“That’s the important thing for us this season, we look like we’re getting it right. It’s making that switch up; when it comes to working, we’re working”, Peterson concluded.
Do you think Kaizer Chiefs should stick with Chivaviro?
