Kaizer Chiefs have been handed a tricky Carling Knockout quarter-final opponent in the shape of Sundowns. Here’s the full draw.
Kaizer Chiefs land Sundowns in the Carling Knockout quarter-finals
Chiefs, Magesi, Richards Bay, and Marumo Gallants were in the unseeded pot. Meanwhile, Sundowns, Cape Town City, TS Galaxy and Stellenbosch were the seeded sides after finishing in the top eight last season. Amakhosi knew they were getting a seeded opponent and got the most difficult task on paper. However, if they can get past the Brazilians they’ll quietly fancy their chances of going all the way. Here’s the full draw:
- Richards Bay vs Cape Town City
- Kaizer Chiefs vs Mamelodi Sundowns
- TS Galaxy vs Magesi FC
- Marumo Gallants vs Stellenbosch FC
Amakhosi roll into the Carling Knockout quarters
Chiefs thumped SuperSport 4-0 with goals from Gaston Sirino, Yusuf Maart, Ranga Chivaviro and Ashley Du Preez. They’re now in the last eight of the Carling Knockout. Amakhosi, meanwhile, have just under a week to wait until their next Betway Premiership fixture. They’ve started this campaign in decent fashion, with two wins from three, and a recent defeat to Sundowns. Their goal, of course, will be to compete for next season’s MTN8 at a minimum. Here are their next few fixtures:
- SuperSport United – Saturday, October 26, Lucas Moripe Stadium, 17:30
- Magesi FC – Wednesday, October 30, Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, 19:30
- Royal AM – Sunday, November 9 – FNB Stadium, 17:30
Ranga to represent Zimbabwe?
Zimbabwe national team coach Michael Nees is monitoring Kaizer Chiefs striker Ranga Chivaviro who’s eligible to play for The Warriors. This is according to SABC Sport. The 31-year-old has scored in back-to-back league games and he also got his name on the score sheet against SuperSport in the last round of the Carling Knockout.
Chivaviro was born in Limpopo to a Zimbabwean father and a South African mother so he’s eligible for both but must choose carefully as his first choice will be a permanent one. Nees’s Zimbabwe side comfortably beat Namibia 3-0 in a recent qualifier with Walter Musona bagging a brace.
