Kaizer Chiefs news: Time is out for midfielder, foreign dilemma

Kaizer Chiefs must make big decisions on a key midfielder and several foreign players. They also have to get three wins from their next three.

Mthethwa is running out of time at Kaizer Chiefs

According to SoccerLaduma, Sibongiseni Mthethwa isn’t in Nabi’s plans. ‘The Ox’ arrived at Naturena to much fanfare at the start of the 2023-2024 campaign but things haven’t worked out according to plan. He was close to a loan move away in the winter window with Chippa, AmaZulu, Richards Bay and former club Stellies all interested.

Chiefs should batter their next three opponents

This season, Royal AM’s four matches have produced a TOTAL of two goals, and all four have been draws. The last three have all ended 0-0. Coach John Maduka won’t see it that way though, he’ll likely be delighted at the frequency of clean sheets that goalkeeper Zakahle Xolani Ngcobo is collecting. Richards Bay, Magesi, SuperSport United and TS Galaxy are the four other sides with only a single goal after four rounds of Betway Prem action. Chiefs face SuperSport, Magesi and Royal AM in their next three outings. They’ll be expected to beat all three.

One foreign player exit is on the cards

Chiefs have six foreign players at the club, namely Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Inacio Miguel, Edmilson Dove, Fiacre Ntwari, Edson Castillo and Christian Saile. League rules state that a club can only register a maximum of five foreign footballers in its Betway Premiership squad. Six players don’t fit into five, the technical team and board have big decisions to make. One factor which could make their jobs easier is that Mozambican star Dove is eligible for South African citizenship. However, his injury situation means it’s not as tempting to keep the 30-year-old on board for the long term. Also, there are whispers that Amakhosi are keen to scour the continent, or South America, for a prolific striker. If they find one, they’ll be back at square one with this ruling.

Does Mthethwa have a future at Chiefs or should they cash in on him now?
