New Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi is eyeing his first piece of ‘silverware’ when Kaizer Chiefs participate in Cufa Cup friendly action this weekend.
Kaizer Chiefs face Gallants for a cup and bragging rights
Chiefs meet Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein on Sunday 13 October to contest the friendly Cufa Cup. Two players are particularly relishing the challenge. Fringe winger Tebogo Potsane hails from that part of the world and spoke to the club’s official website:
“As someone from Bloemfontein, I am honoured to be back home to attend the launch of Cufa Cup. We are really looking forward to coming back to Bloemfontein for a third time in 10 weeks. We played in front of capacity crowds against Young Africans on 28 July in the Toyota Cup and faced Marumo Gallants in the Betway Premiership on 14 September, and supporters did not disappoint again when they filled up the Toyota stadium once more. We know people of Mangaung love football, and we look forward to another sold-out crowd when we return on 13 October,” he said.
Chivaviro is out to shine against his old club
32-year-old marksman Ranga Chivaviro battled in his debut campaign for Chiefs but things are looking a little rosier in 2024-2025. The former Gallants man, incredibly prolific for his old team, has scored in back-to-back Betway Premiership matches, recently against Sundowns. Ranga bagged an astonishing 17 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions for Gallants in the 2022-2023 campaign.
Meanwhile, head coach Nasreddine Nabi also relishes the challenge of a return to Bloem:
“We are looking forward to coming back to Bloemfontein for a third time in 10 weeks. We played in front of capacity crowds against Young Africans in the Toyota Cup and faced Marumo Gallants in the PSL on 14 September. Supporters did not disappoint again when they filled up the Toyota stadium once more,” he said.
Competitive action is still a far way off
Amakhosi, meanwhile, have just under three weeks to wait until their next Betway Premiership fixture. They’ve started this campaign in decent fashion, with two wins from three, and a recent defeat to Sundowns. Their goal, of course, will be to compete for next season’s MTN8 at a minimum. Here are their next few fixtures as Nabi continues to settle into life at Naturena:
- SuperSport United – Saturday, October 26, Lucas Moripe Stadium, 17:30
- Magesi FC – Wednesday, October 30, Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, 19:30
- Royal AM – Sunday, November 9 – FNB Stadium, 17:30
Would you regard the Cufa Cup as a legit piece of silverware?
