Kaizer Chiefs on the hunt :”Chivaviro needs another striker”

Kaizer Chiefs are on the hunt for another striker, as Nasreddine Nabi admits that Ranga Chivaviro needs another forward with him.

Chiefs continue to seek an additional forward, despite Chivaviro’s promising performances. Head coach Nabi highlighted Chivaviro’s potential during the latest post-match press conference.

Chivaviro, 31, gained significant attention after scoring 18 goals for Marumo Gallants in the 2022/2023 season, leading his team to the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals. Although the Chiefs secured his signature, he faced a challenging debut season, netting just four goals in 23 matches as the team finished 10th in the league. Their worst position in the Premier Soccer League era.

Chivaviro’s improvement under Nabi

Since Nabi’s arrival, Chivaviro has shown signs of growth, particularly after a strong pre-season. He scored in the 3-1 victory over AmaZulu and added another goal in the 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns. Nabi remains optimistic but insists that Kaizer Chiefs need another striker to elevate Chivaviro’s game further.

“Ranga… you know, it’s true [I tried to sign him] at that moment I had Fiston Mayele, and I knew he was going to leave,” Nabi explained, as quoted by iDiski Times.

“We looked [for strikers] and in CAF, we played Marumo Gallants, he had two very good games.”

He continued, “Yes, I know there’s progress, but Ranga needs to work more, more confidence, specific work in the finishing. I think he’s made progress but he needs another striker with him, because if there’s two you progress more.”

Quest for Fiston Mayele

Who could be that additional striker? The answer lies with Fiston Mayele, a fan favourite among Kaizer Chiefs supporters. The talented Democratic Republic of Congo striker previously thrived under Nabi’s guidance at Yanga in Tanzania and currently showcases his skills at Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Premier League.

However, reuniting Mayele with Nabi presents a challenge. Pyramids FC allegedly demands at least R14.5 million for the forward, while Kaizer Chiefs reportedly plans to offer around R10 million, leaving a notable gap. Despite this obstacle, Mayele remains the Chiefs’ top priority, and the club secretly hopes to secure his signature in January.

As Kaizer Chiefs strategize to enhance their attacking options, the spotlight remains on Ranga Chivaviro’s development and the potential acquisition of Fiston Mayele. The team’s aspirations hinge on finding the right forward to complement their squad and drive them toward a successful season. Keep an eye on this unfolding story as Chiefs aim to strengthen their front line.
