Kaizer Chiefs recruit says it’s the ‘biggest job of his career’

New Kaizer Chiefs head of Scouting and Recruitment Thembela Maliwa has opened up about his move to the Soweto Giants.

Maliwa relishing the challenge at Kaizer Chiefs

Thembela Maliwa arrived at the club in August after seven years with Sundowns and prior experience with Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam. Here’s an excerpt from his discussion with local outlet iDiski Times in their newspaper.

“I’ve spent seven years at Sundowns, great years that I spent there, learned a lot from Sundowns, being a scout there and enjoyed myself,” Maliwa told iDiski Times.

“Now, I’m where I am now at Kaizer Chiefs, it’s a dream for everyone to work for such a club and to be in this department where I have to make sure that we bring the club back to the glory days.

“Chiefs is a big team, from the first day, you just want to work for this big institution and don’t waste time. I’m very happy with my career and very ambitious. I see myself helping the club, taking them back to the glory days. It’s a dream come true for me to be here.”

Here’s what Tera told the club’s official website after joining:

“We all know what a big, great Club this is. I am really happy to be here,”

“I am here to try to take the Club to another level in terms of scouting and recruitment. My plan is to identify and bring in the players that will take Amakhosi back to the glory days.”

Amakhosi keen to embrace technology

Following the lead of Sundowns, Nabi and his technical team have taken on board a host of new electronic equipment to help them analyse performances while they happen and to take a closer look at refereeing decisions in real-time.

Kaizer Chiefs must wait 20 days for their next Betway Premiership action

Amakhosi, meanwhile, have three weeks to wait until their next Betway Premiership fixture. They’ve started this campaign in decent fashion, with two wins from three, and a recent defeat to Sundowns. Their goal, of course, will be to compete for next season’s MTN8 at a minimum. Here are their next few fixtures:

  • SuperSport United – Saturday, October 26, Lucas Moripe Stadium, 17:30
  • Magesi FC – Wednesday, October 30, Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, 19:30
  • Royal AM – Sunday, November 9 – FNB Stadium, 17:30
