Kaizer Chiefs set to better squad in January: Key positions targeted.
Chiefs are gearing up for an active January transfer window, focusing on two critical positions within their squad. The technical staff has identified a need for attack-minded players, indicating a shift in strategy.
The Glamour Boys plan to loan out George Matlou, who has resumed training post-knee surgery but remains outside the coach’s immediate plans. An insider stated, as quoted by Soccer Laduma. “The club appears to be exploring options to loan Matlou to a team where he can stay fit and get regular playing time in the second half of the season.”
With his contract lasting until June 2025, a permanent transfer could also be on the table if the right team comes along.
Seeking top attackers and key midfielder
The coaching staff is largely satisfied with the current squad but requires just one winger and one striker. However, negotiations for potential signings have stalled, leading to increased interest in seasoned players like Michael Olunga. A source mentioned, as quoted by Soccer Laduma. “Chiefs are now looking at Michael for January as well… they feel it will be much easier getting Michael at this point than to stay on the Mayele chase.”
An inside source close to Kaizer Chiefs disclosed details about the club’s interest in midfielder Salum.
“Kaizer Chiefs are very much interested in Salum and are actively putting plans in place to secure his services; however, I want to clarify that no bid or formal talks have taken place yet. The club recognizes Salum’s potential and talent, and they see him as a valuable addition to strengthen their squad. While the interest is genuine, Chiefs are taking their time to assess the situation and explore the best approach before making any official moves.”
