Kaizer Chiefs’ new attacking midfielder Gaston Sirino will be sidelined for a while with a new abductor injury sustained against Sundowns.
Kaizer Chiefs star Sirino against former club Sundowns
According to the club’s medical team and their official site, 33-year-old Uruguayan Gaston Sirino injured his abductor muscle in Amakhosi’s defeat to Sundowns prior to the international break.
“Gaston Sirino sustained an abductor muscle injury in the last match, and he is improving nicely, and we expect him to be back in full training within two weeks,” Kaizer Chiefs physiotherapist David Miller said.
Updates on Petersen and three others
There’s positive news regarding four other Amakhosi stars. Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has recovered from a finger injury, while George Matlou, Tebogo Potsane and Edmilson Dove will soon be back in full training. Matlou has battled with injuries since joining the club in 2022, while Dove will need to win his place back in the side after picking up an injury during the pre-season tour of Turkey.
“Another player progressing well is George Matlou. He has started running and doing some ball work and we are looking at a November return for him, “ the Chiefs physio added.
“He[Potsane] went for a scan which showed some ligament damage, so we expect him to be out for around three weeks.
“Edmilson Dove is out of the protective boot and is doing some preliminary walking. We are confident he will be able to start running in November. Brandon had the pins removed from his finger and can start full training immediately,” Miller concluded.
Amakhosi, meanwhile, have 18 days to wait until their next Betway Premiership fixture. They’ve started this campaign in decent fashion, with two wins from three, and a recent defeat to Sundowns. Their goal, of course, will be to compete for next season’s MTN8 at a minimum. Here are their next few fixtures:
- SuperSport United – Saturday, October 26, Lucas Moripe Stadium, 17:30
- Magesi FC – Wednesday, October 30, Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, 19:30
- Royal AM – Sunday, November 9 – FNB Stadium, 17:30
Cufa Cup is on the horizon, is it a trophy?
Chiefs meet Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein on Sunday 13 October to contest the friendly Cufa Cup. Two players are particularly relishing the challenge. Fringe winger Tebogo Potsane hails from that part of the world and spoke to the club’s official website:
“As someone from Bloemfontein, I am honoured to be back home to attend the launch of Cufa Cup. We are really looking forward to coming back to Bloemfontein for a third time in 10 weeks. We played in front of capacity crowds against Young Africans on 28 July in the Toyota Cup and faced Marumo Gallants in the Betway Premiership on 14 September, and supporters did not disappoint again when they filled up the Toyota stadium once more. We know people of Mangaung love football, and we look forward to another sold-out crowd when we return on 13 October,” he said.
