Kaizer Chiefs made the exciting signing of Gaston Sirino in pre-season. Sadly, the South American star will miss this weekend’s Cufa Cup.
KAIZER CHIEFS VS MARUMO GALLANTS IN THE CUFA CUP
The years go fast. It’s time for another Macufe Festival, and Kaizer Chiefs will be involved once more.
Amakhosi have confirmed the team will play in the 2024 edition of the Cufa Cup (formerly known as Macufe) in Bloemfontein. With Celtic no longer part of the top division of South African football, the local Manguang top club, Marumo Gallants, will face Kaizer Chiefs in the event.
Amakhosi’s Tebogo Potsane, who is also a Bloemfontein native, expressed delight ahead of the game.
“As someone from Bloemfontein, I am honoured to be back home to attend the launch of Cufa Cup,” Potsane told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
“We are really looking forward to coming back to Bloemfontein for a third time in 10 weeks. We played in front of capacity crowds against Young Africans on 28 July in the Toyota Cup and faced Marumo Gallants in the Betway Premiership on 14 September, and supporters did not disappoint again when they filled up the Toyota stadium once more.
“We know people of Mangaung love football, and we look forward to another sold-out crowd when we return on 13 October,” the Kaizer Chiefs winger concluded.
GASTON SIRINO AMONG INJURED GROUP
“Gaston Sirino sustained an abductor muscle injury in the last match, and he is improving nicely, and we expect him to be back in full training within two weeks,” Kaizer Chiefs physiotherapist David Miller said.
Additionally, Brandon Petersen has recovered from his finger injury, while George Matlou, Tebogo Potsane and Edmilson Dove will start full training with the Glamour Boys soon.
“Another player progressing well is George Matlou. He has started running and doing some ball work and we are looking at a November return for him, “ the Kaizer Chiefs physio added.
“He[Potsane] went for a scan which showed some ligament damage, so we expect him to be out for around three weeks.
“Edmilson Dove is out of the protective boot and is doing some preliminary walking. We are confident he will be able to start running in November. Brandon had the pins removed from his finger and can start full training immediately,” Miller concluded.
