Kaizer Chiefs Nasreddine Nabi has been vocal about his desire to bring another number 9 to Soweto.
“For myself, I think look now, in October we don’t play, then we have November and December. Then in January, the window opens. I need to scout for the quality that I need”, he told SABC Sport.
“I think my strikers today and last game, they scored. I agree with you, the market in Africa is very, very short, you have maybe three, four, or five good players but all the clubs in Africa take them like Esperance, Al Ahly, Zamalek. The market in Africa is not positive in this moment.”
A busy winter window
The Tunisian tactician didn’t hold back in the winter transfer window, signing seven players, including former Sundowns player Gastòn Sirino, who has been instrumental in the Glamour Boys’ impressive start to the campaign.
Other signings include Njabulo Blom, Miguel Inacio, Bradley Cross, Bongani Sam and Fiacre Ntwari.
Summer transfer targets
- Kaizer Chiefs are interested in Kenyan international Michael Olunga; however, his R180 million valuation will likely deter them from pursuing the 30-year-old.
- Asanele Velebayi remains a top target for the Soweto Giants, who could be tempted to land him this summer in a bid to challenge for trophies. They had several offers rejected before the season kicked off.
- Ranga Chivaviro’s contract runs out at the end of the season, prompting Chiefs to offer the striker an additional two-year contract as they look to develop squad depth.
Kaizer Chiefs’ latest acquisition
Months after Nabi’s announcement, Kaizer Chiefs Village welcomes another coach to the roster.
The club provided a statement:
“Kaizer Chiefs wishes to announce that the Club has accepted an offer for assistant coach Fernando Da Cruz to take up a position at the Moroccan Football Federation.
“I would like to thank Kaizer Chiefs, Chairman and all the supporters for the welcome and affection they gave from the first day I landed in South Africa,” says Da Cruz.
“Thank you to the players, staff and everyone involved for making sure that everything was fantastic for me. I wish this great Club everything of the best.
“As Kaizer Chiefs, we would like to thank coach Fernando for his contributions to the team and the commitment he has shown during his time with us. The Club fully supports his decision and wishes him all the best for the future.
“Further announcements will follow in due course.”
