Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral believes Amakhosi can beat Mamelodi Sundowns and go on and win the Carling Knockout Cup.
The two teams face off in the competition’s quarter-finals this Saturday at the FNB Stadium. Masandawana are favourites to win the match having beaten Chiefs already this season.
Speaking to Peter Du Toit on SoccerBeat podcast, Muhsin said Kaizer Chiefs has the quality to beat Sundowns in the quarter-final.
Ertugral is backing Chiefs to get one over Sundowns
“Pretty much, they can beat Sundowns. I also believe that can go all the way and win the trophy. Cup games are different Peter, I won 11 trophies in my career, mostly cups. It’s completely different, never forget about the emotions of the players,” he said.
Ertugral believes Kaizer Chiefs will be firing on all cylinders and players will be highly motivated given the occasion.
“Sometimes is not a tactical aspect, it’s just the players’ emotions on the day. The motivation is high on the Kaizer Chiefs side and I think Sundowns will play much more his routine, they have a certain routine but there’s also danger in Sundowns’ approach because they are chopping and changing,” he added.
Ertugral says Sundowns are favourites to win Saturday’s clash but Amakhosi will rise to the occasion and surprise Manqoba Mngqithi’s men. The match kicks off at 18:00 on Saturday.
“I think the game will go to extra time, that’s my personal feeling and in the end, Chiefs will make it,” he said.
