Kaizer Chiefs: Will Maart or Msimango lift the Cufa Cup?

Kaizer Chiefs will play Marumo Gallants in the Cufa Cup on Sunday evening.

The match is part of the big Cultural Urban Festival Africa which takes place from 3 October until 13 October, in Mangaung. The Chiefs/Gallants match will be the perfect way to end the festival with both teams having played each other last month in the Betway Premiership.

Kaizer Chiefs winger Tebogo Potsane expressed his desire to play in the Cufa Cup.

“As someone from Bloemfontein, I am honoured to be back home to attend the launch of Cufa Cup. We are really looking forward to coming back to Bloemfontein for a third time in 10 weeks,” he said.

“We played in front of capacity crowds against Young Africans on 28 July in the Toyota Cup and faced Marumo Gallants in the Betway Premiership on 14 September, and supporters did not disappoint again when they filled up the Toyota stadium once more. We know people of Mangaung love football, and we look forward to another sold-out crowd when we return on 13 October,” he said.

Cufa Cup gives Kaizer Chiefs a chance to win a trophy

Amakhosi defeated Gallants 2-1 when the two teams played in the league. On Sunday, they face off again the the same stadium. Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi could add new faces to his team and opt to rest the likes of Miguel Inacio, Gaston Sirino and Ranga Chivaviro. The trio started all Chiefs’ games this season, impressing the new coach.

Given Msimango, who hasn’t featured much under the Nabi, will probably start with Rushwin Dortely with the Bafana Bafana squad. The defender was given the armband last season and could lift the Cufa Cup if Kaizer Chiefs are victorious on Sunday.

Under Nabi, Maart was made captain but the midfielder might start from the bench this Sunday. If Msimango starts, and Maart doesn’t play, it would be interesting to see if he would lift the trophy should Amakhosi triumph.

Who should get the armband if Maart is unavailable?
