The women behind two late, great Springboks – Joost van der Westhuizen and James Small – have spoken out about Rachel and Siya Kolisi’s divorce news.
And both of them have lamented female fans for possibly contributing to the marriage split as well as their own relationship woes.
Joost died of motor neurone disease in 2017, while James died of a heart attack in 2019.
EX SPRINGBOKS WAGS ON RACHEL AND SIYA KOLISI’S DIVORCE
Speaking to TimesLive, two former Springbok WAGS – Amor Vittone and Christina Storm – spoke out about Rachel and Siya Kolisi’s divorce news.
Amor – who was married to Joost from 2002 until his 2017 death, called out female fans who often interfered in athletes’s marriages.
She said: “Women are constantly throwing themselves at your husband, and you start to lose yourself,”
“You feel hurt, as women flaunt themselves at your man — publicly and in private. And everything gets splashed in the media.”
Referring to a cheating scandal that rocked soccer star David Beckham and his wife Victoria, she added: “The Beckhams worked it out. I wish Joost and I could have, but I just didn’t have the ability for it or the nerves of steel.
“I wish the Kolisis strength and resilience.”
Christina Storm – who dated Springbok James Small on and off for a decade – claimed that the constant flirting with female fans took a toll on her.
She added: “It was as if I suddenly didn’t exist. We would be out for dinner, and women would flaunt themselves at James as if I wasn’t even there. His fans would send him the most disgusting faxes — they were relentless. Of course, the boys love that kind of attention, but for how long can you ignore it?”
The couple later split.
JOOST, JAMES SMALL CHEATING SCANDALS
Joost van der Westhuizen – who died of motor neuron disease – was accused of cheating on his wife, Amor Vittone, with multiple women (including a stripper). He was also accused of abusing drugs like cocaine.
Interestingly, Joost began dating Amor just months after his split from his first wife, Marlize. According to social media speculation, there were overlaps between his first marriage and his relationship with the TV personality, allegations the latter has vehemently denied.
When he died in 2017, Joost allegedly left just a TV to Amor – who he was estranged from – who is the mother of his two children.
Meanwhile, Christina Storm’s relationship with Springbok James Small was also plagued with dramatic headlines.
According to various reports, James was known for his short temper and wandering eye.
Another sports WAG, Loui Fish – who married former Bafana Bafana star Mark Fish – alleges she was in a relationship with James, who cheated on her with Christina.
The 50-year-old player reportedly died in a strip club of a heart attack in 2019. He was reportely single.
‘I LOVE GIRLS’
Meanwhile, in an excerpt from Siya Kolisi’s autobiography Rise, the Springbok captain revealed that he had a weakness for women.
When he first met Rachel in 2012, he claimed, “I was young, still 20, and full of it. I loved rugby, I loved drinking, and I loved girls.”
Siya also admitted to being in a relationship with another woman when Rachel caught his eye. He later slid in her Facebook DMs.
He continued: “Of all the things I loved about her, one of the biggest was the fact that she didnt need me. There were girls who would be all over you because you were a pro rugby player in a rugby-mad city. But Rachel wasn’t one of them. She couldnt have cared less”.
