October 2024 SASSA Disability Grants are paying out today – Thursday 3 October 2024. And like SASSA Old-Age Grants for October, as well as grants War Veterans, the disabled will enjoy a much-needed, if nominal, increase in support this month. Specifically, the South African Social Security Agency is increasing October 2024 SASSA Disability Grants by R10 to R2 190 per month.
And because SASSA Child Care Dependency effectively works as disability care for children (under the age of 18) it, too, increases to R2 190 today. Similarly, from now on, R2 190 will be paid to all registered SASSA War Veterans. Here’s more …
OCTOBER 2024 SASSA DISABILITY GRANTS
According to the latest figures for October 2024 SASSA Disability Grants, the stipend is paid to roughly one-million residents. While approximately 170 000 children receive Childcare Dependency through the SASSA Child Support system (which we remind you pays out tomorrow).
However, government insists that not enough people who actually qualify for SASSA grants are applying for them. Beyond the Minister of Social Development imploring young mothers to apply for the R530 monthly SASSA Child Support grant, even fewer residents consider disability support when they might actually qualify.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
So, who is eligible for October 2024 SASSA Disability Grants? And what differentiation is there between temporary and permanent disability? Moreover, how can you successfully apply for government support? We’ll delve into all of these questions below … Specifically, SASSA makes clear through its new online services portal, that any physical or mental disability qualifies you for October 2024 SASSA Disability Grants.
Likewise, if any injury and/or issue has stopped you from working for six months or longer, you may apply for financial aid. Last month, Minister Tolashe even defended the department’s assessment of cases for October 2024 SASSA Disability Grants, after the quality of assessors was called into question.
FULLY TRAINED AND HIGH QUALITY
The Department of Social Development insists its state-appointed medical practitioners are well trained by the agency. Their focus is on medical assessments, disability management processes and social assistance:
- Firstly, book a medical assessment online using the SASSA service portal. Details of the assessment date and venue are sent to the client via SMS confirmation.
- Be sure to supply any and all medical records/reports to help with an accurate assessment
- Then you visit a local SASSA office with your assessment in hand to confirm your disability benefits. The SASSA assessment will determine if the applicant is mentally or physically disabled. And whether the condition is permanent or temporary.
- Note that permanent applies if the condition will exist for longer than 12 months.
- Temporary applies if the condition will exist for six months or less.
- You may not earn more than R86 280 annually if single or R172 560 if married. And your net assets cannot exceed R1 227 600 if single or R2 455 200 if married. Just like other asset and means tests for SASSA grants.
TEMPORARY VERSUS PERMANENT AID
If you suffer a broken leg and lose your job, that counts as a temporary physical disability. Because the leg will heal in six months. Therefore, SASSA is obliged to support you in your time of need. But only for this period (similar to the Unemployment Insurance Fund). However, you also cannot unreasonably refuse employment which is within their capability in this time. Applications can take three months to be processed. However, if approved, you will be back-paid from the date of application.
