LIVE SCORING | URC: Lions v Edinburgh

The Lions have made an impressive start to their URC campaign, playing some sparkling rugby during a 35-22 bonus point victory over Ulster.

Edinburgh, meanwhile, are looking for their first win of the season after two narrow defeats – 33-31 at home to Leinster and 22-16 away to the Bulls.

The URC battle between the Lions and Edinburgh kicks off at 13:45 on Saturday.

Former Springboks star Breyton Paulse has tipped the Lions to be the surprise packages of the URC this season.

“I think a team who is maybe going to surprise a few people will be the Lions,” he said.

“They punch right above their weight and those guys play for each other.

“It’s like the old days. It’s a bunch of guys who are good  friends and they get together and go out on the pitch.

“It’s all a question of whether they can get the consistency right. Last season, they were so good one week and so bad the next, but I just feel they have learned a lot and I do feel they are going to surprise a lot of the heavyweights of the URC.”

The Lions do boast a good track record against their Scottish visitors, with two wins in their three matches, while they suffered a narrow one-point defeat against them in the only game they lost. The hosts, however, will be wary of the fact that all three of those matches were decided by no more than six-points.

The Lions will expect Edinburgh to be more acclimatised to the highveld conditions this week after suffering a six-point defeat against the Bulls last week. The hosts will know first-hand how desperate the Scots will be to change their fortunes in the competition after accumulating only three log points in the first two rounds and winning only two games on South African shores in 2017 and 2022 respectively.

The fact that the visitors suffered narrow defeats of only two and six points in their opening two matches, will motivate them even more going into the game, which will set the scene for a gripping encounter.
