Dare to dream Orlando Pirates fans?
The last time the Buccaneers ignited the season with six successive league wins (2002/03), they went on to win the trophy – could history be repeating itself?
Orlando Pirates were 1-0 up against TS Galaxy in the 72nd minute before Relebohile Mofokeng sent an audacious 30-yard strike into the top left corner, leaving ‘keeper Ira Tapé planted to the ground.
It was a goal so good that fans were seen offering the 20-year-old starlet money after the game.
Pirates form continues
Six wins in six games, averaging two goals a game, shows just how much Jose Riveiro’s side is ready to fight for the title.
Mamelodi Sundowns, who have a game in hand, will feel the pressure when they line up against Cape Town City tonight.
Kick-off: 19:30
It’s been over four years since the Brazilians had someone breathing down their neck.
Kaizer Chiefs finished the 2019/20 season two points off Masandawana, but since then, they have cleared the next best by at least 16 points.
This will be the first time some Sundowns’ players feel the pressure of opposition, and it will be fascinating to see how they deal with it.
Riveiro brilliance
The victory marked Riveiro’s 60th win in 99 games, during which he has won three MTN8 Cups and the Nedbank Cup, but the PSL remains elusive.
The Spanish mastermind has been a revelation for the Sea Robbers, and he likes what he is seeing from his side, saying, after their win against AmaZulu, “I think the team is getting mature, we show and the players show, this season they are really enjoying playing and that makes everything much easier.
“So far they are really focused in each and every game, you never hear them talking about Champions League the next month, or the big games we’re going to play. It’s always about the next opponent when you hear the players in the locker room and [training],” he told Independent Media.
“They are always talking about what’s coming or what we did the day before. It makes you feel that they are getting more mature as a group and they know what it takes to achieve what we want to achieve in the end, which is always the next… that makes me feel confident and very optimistic about this group.”
Do you think Orlando Pirates will win the PSL?
