Nasreddine Nabi could win his first Kaizer Chiefs trophy when his side takes on Marumo Gallants in the Cufa Cup.
Sunday’s match is scheduled in Bloemfontein during the two-week FIFA break. Gallants and Amakhosi have already played each other in the Betway Premiership with the Soweto giants winning 2-1. This time around, the two teams face each other in a friendly match on Sunday afternoon.
Chiefs winger Tebogo Potsane said he was excited to return home to Bloemfontein. “As someone from Bloemfontein, I am honoured to be back home to attend the launch of the Cufa Cup,” he told Chiefs’ media department.
In Nabi’s first match in South Africa, Kaizer Chiefs played Yanga SC in the Toyota Cup but failed to lift the trophy as they were beaten 4-0. Potsane though is looking forward to playing in front of a packed stadium on Sunday.
“We are looking forward to coming back to Bloemfontein for a third time in 10 weeks. We played in front of capacity crowds against Young Africans in the Toyota Cup and faced Marumo Gallants in the PSL on 14 September. Supporters did not disappoint again when they filled up the Toyota stadium once more,” he said.
Nabi eyeing his first trophy for Kaizer Chiefs
“We know people of Mangaung love football, and we look forward to another sold-out crowd when we return on Sunday.”
Kaizer Chiefs have not won a trophy in nearly 10 years but many Khosi fans believe Nabi can change that. The 59-year-old Tunisian coach has so far won two of his opening three league matches. Amakhosi are in action later this month against rivals SuperSport United at the Polokwane Stadium in a Betway Premiership clash.
