MANILA, Philippines – NLEX is once again bringing in a former NBA player as its import.
The Road Warriors on Monday, November 4, announced that they signed Ed Davis for the Commissioner’s Cup as he is set to become the sixth consecutive NBA talent to reinforce the team.
“We’re thrilled to have Ed on board,” said Road Warriors head coach Jong Uichico. “He brings a wealth of experience and leadership that we believe will help us.”
By acquiring Davis, NLEX continued its trend of parading former NBA players after tapping the services of Earl Clark, Jonathon Simmons, Wayne Selden, Myke Henry, and DeQuan Jones in the last three import conferences.
The 35-year-old Davis spent the longest time in the NBA.
Picked 13th overall in the 2010 NBA Draft, Davis played for the Toronto Raptors, Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers, Portland Trail Blazers, Brooklyn Nets, Utah Jazz, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
The 6-foot-9 big man averaged 5.9 points and 6.4 rebounds throughout his 12-year NBA career that lasted until 2022.
After his NBA stint, Davis took his act overseas as he saw action in Puerto Rico and China.
“We’re optimistic that he’ll be able to match up against the league’s top big men and make a huge difference in our campaign this conference,” said Uichico.
The Road Warriors hope to make a deep playoff run with Davis after failing to make it past the quarterfinals in each of the last six conferences.
Other imports who were introduced for the mid-season conference were Cheick Diallo of Converge, Ricardo Ratliffe of Magnolia, and George King of Blackwater. – Rappler.com
