The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued an orange level 5 warning for disruptive rain in Nelson Mandela Bay, Eastern Cape.
The warning is valid for Tuesday, 5 November.
DISRUPTIVE RAIN WARNING ISSUED FOR NELSON MANDELA BAY
The weather service said disruptive rain is expected due to an upper air trough/cut-off low pressure system combined with a ridging surface high.
“Flooding of susceptible settlements, roads and low-lying areas is expected in places over Nelson Mandela metropolitan municipality.
“Rainfall figures up to 20mm has already fallen and more is expected which could lead to more flooding,” the weather service said.
POSSIBLE IMPACTS:
- Flooding of roods and settlements
- Danger to life
- Disruption to essential services
- Communities temporarily cut-off
- Damage to road and bridges
Residents have been urged to stay clear of river basins and low-lying areas and to not cross flooded rivers/areas.
“Remain at home unless it is not safe to do so and listen to regular weather updates via radio and social media,” SAWS said.
A YELLOW LEVEL 4 WARNING ISSUED FOR EASTERN CAPE
Meanwhile, the weather service has issued a yellow level 4 warning for the Eastern Cape, which is also valid for Tuesday, 5 November.

Apart from disruptive rain warnings in Nelson Mandela and other parts of the Eastern Cape, the weather service also issued a yellow level 2 warning for disruptive snow in the province.
said snowfalls are expected over the high lying areas due to a high pressure system ridging from far south of the country, with a southerly to south easterly wind resulting in cold to very cold and wet conditions in the following areas:

- Dr Beyers Naude
