Chiefs creating pathway for youth
The likes of Mduduzi Shabalala, Wandile Duba and Mfundo Vilakazi are enjoying the faith of Nasreddine Nabi. Midfielder Samkelo Zwane also finds himself there and there about. Further in the squad, other older graduates like Njabulo Blom, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Happy Mashiane and Bruce Bvuma are present. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, that tradition could be set to continue, with Chiefs earmarking Royce Malatji as next up!
“He (Malatji) is just 16-years-old but he is very good. He can play at right United back, central defence, right wing or even as a central midfielder. It really star doesn’t matter where he plays – he is just good! That’s why both (Chiefs) technical teams have agreed that he joins the senior team. He has a great future ahead of him and they want to nurture him in the right environment,” said a source to the publication.
A second sources stated that even Malatji trains with the Chiefs first team, he will remain with the DDC side.
Malatji next?
“They (Chiefs) are letting him grow while playing with the DDC team even when he trains with the senior team. They know that he has to learn from the senior team players like they have been doing with the likes of Mdu Shabalala, Samkelo Zwane, Mfundo Vilakazi and Wandile Duba. They want to keep these youngsters in the team for the future and Royce (Malatji) is one of them,” said the source.
Malatji is clearly making waves in the junior age groups and looks to have a bright future at Chiefs. Amakhosi fans, is the club academy back to producing the best again? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
