NINE Kaizer Chiefs players to miss the Cufa Cup

Kaizer Chiefs will need to rotate their squad in the Cufa Cup on Sunday with several stars away with their countries or out injured.

Five players are still injured

There’s positive news regarding four injured Amakhosi stars. Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has recovered from a finger injury, while George Matlou, Tebogo Potsane and Edmilson Dove will soon be back in full training. Matlou has battled with injuries since joining the club in 2022, while Dove will need to win his place back in the side after picking up an injury during the pre-season tour of Turkey. Gaston Sirino is out for a couple of weeks after sustaining a knock against his former club Sundowns.

Four Amakhosi stars are away on international duty

Rushwin Dortley picked up his third Bafana cap, and his first clean sheet, as South Africa thumped Congo 5-0 in Afcon Qualifying Group K. The sides will meet again in Brazzaville on Tuesday 15 October. Bafana is sitting pretty with seven points from three matches.

A night to forget for Ntwari, Ditlhokwe fared better

Chiefs’ new number 1 goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari was in goal for Rwanda as they got thrashed 3-0 by Benin on Friday evening. One of the goal-scorers was former Huddersfield and Montpellier striker Steve Mounie. He’s now on the books of German Bundesliga side Augsburg. Meanwhile, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe helped his Botswana side to a 1-0 win over Cape Verde on Thursday. Meanwhile, Edson Castillo got to brush shoulders with Lionel Messi as Venezuela drew 1-1 with Argentina.
