Reality TV star and content creator Dominic Zaca is facing criticism after landing a role in a new TV show. According to entertainment commentator Phil Mphela, the content creator is set to appear in an upcoming episode of Showmax’s original legal drama series, Law, Love and Betrayal (LLB).
The show is a legal drama consisting of 13 episodes released every Thursday, featuring several South African actors, including Pearl Modiadie and Nimrod Nkosi, among others.
X USERS REACT TO ZACA’S NEW TV GIG
Dominic is a well-known content creator who has gained prominence on TikTok, amassing over 1 million followers. Zaca also stars star on Moja Love’s show The Way Ngingakhona (The way that I am), which follows the lives of social media stars who are part of the LGBTI+ community.
Many X users are frustrated with producers casting influencers such as Zaca for Television roles instead of skilled actors, because of their huge following online.
@AKANJIROLE wrote “Hhayi this trend ya influencers getting acting jobs aowa, what about the people who went to school for acting?”
@DakaloMosima wrote “Lol but there are more derseving people out there. Giving acting gigs to TikTokers is just not fair to people who actually went to drama school”
@Loco_FiestaZA wrote “The South African writers are starting to become lazy. This thing of using influencers as actors and using the same actors over and over is what is going to kill the South African film industry slowly. The last time I enjoyed a South African film was when they dropped Tsotsi”
Another X user suggested that Zaca deserves an opportunity to showcase her acting prowess, as she might nail the character.
@Barffoon wrote “Give Dominic a chance, he may actually kill it. The most talented actors out there don’t even have any formal training in acting coz sometimes a character needs a specific type of person to convey it best”
DOMINIC SILENCES HOMOPHOBES
It seems Zaca cannot impress everyone on social media. The content creator is no stranger to controversy, with homophobes frequently leaving hurtful comments on her posts online.
With all the hate she faces on social media, Zaca has mastered responding to trolls gracefully. The TikToker is known for her flamboyant and bold personality, and she is not afraid to call a spade a spade. In 2023, she trended on social media after she outed a TikToker user who hurled homophobic insults at her. Zaca fired a stinging clap back at the hater.
She filed a report against the TikTok user for homophobia at his workplace, and he faced backlash for attacking her on social media. Several homophobic social media publicly targeting Zaca on social media have gotten a taste of their own medicine.
While some have praised her for standing up to the trolls and blocking them, others have criticised her for involving the troll’s employers in their nasty exchanges, which have resulted in some of the trolls losing their jobs.
