Orlando Pirates are cup specialists under Jose Riveiro but there’s still work to do to end their Betway Premiership drought.
Perfect Orlando Pirates making a big title claim
Pirates have won their first six league encounters and only conceded a total of two goals. Sundowns are breathing down their necks with 15 points out of a possible 18, but this is as perfect a start as Jose Riveiro could have hoped for. Their next two league opponents are Richards Bay and Marumo Gallants, so they’ll highly fancy their chances of eight wins from eight. Pirates’ last title success was in the 2011-2012 season so if they do the job in 2025, it’ll end 13 years of waiting.
Next five fixtures for Pirates
Riveiro’s men have a trio of league encounters to prepare for in the next five weeks and they’ve also got two tasty Caf Champions League clashes on the horizon. The visit of African champions Al Ahly on 06 December is one to get in the diary. There’s also the prospect of a meeting with Bafana and former Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo when Pirates go up North to face Belouizdad of Algeria.

Mofokeng will end up in Europpe sooner rather than later
Former Bucs development coach Mandla Qhogi isn’t pulling any punches about where he sees Rele’s future playing out.
Via SoccerLaduma:
“For me, it will be a good time for him to go overseas. It is the right time and there are things that he would learn if he were to move now at this stage of his career. The more we keep him this side it could mean that we are delaying him. He is 20, and I think it is the right time for him to move if he has to be sold overseas,” said Qhogi.
Will Pirates end their long league title drought in 2024-2025?
