Orlando Pirates set to reinforce backroom staff with Stellies gem

Orlando Pirates are set to bolster their backroom staff by roping in Stellenbosch FC head of performance Ruan Rust.

This is according to a report by SABC Sport, who claims Rust could move to Pirates as soon as the next FIFA break.

The next International break is in mid-November, and that’s when Rust is expected to join the Sea Robbers.

Rust is a qualified Biokinetist and he also holds a CAF D Coaching License, and he will surely add value to the Pirates technical team.

He has been with Stellies for nine years having first joined their Academy for Sports as a strength and conditioning coach in 2015.

Rust worked his way up to the Stellies first team, and has worked closely with coach Steve Barker over the years.

The publication reports that Rust may take over from his former Stellies colleague Devon O’Brien who joined Pirates earlier this season.

ORLANDO PIRATES TO BOLSTER TECHNICAL TEAM?

“SABC Sport has established Orlando Pirates will soon welcome Ruan Rust, the head of performance at Stellenbosch FC, to the club,” reads part of the report.

“The highly rated biokineticist has been in the Winelands since 2015 after joining the Stellies Academy for Sport as a strength and conditioning coach and was elevated three years later to lead the performance division.

“Rust has a Master’s Degree in exercise science as well as a CAF D License, arming him with a wealth of knowledge to take up the role that lies ahead with his imminent move to the Soweto giants.”

“It’s understood he may be stepping in for his former colleague Devon O’Brien, who moved across to The Buccaneers at the start of the 2024/25 campaign from Stellenbosch to become Pirates’ performance analyst.

“Although there is no official confirmation yet, the public broadcaster has been informed O’Brien could be leaving next month when the FIFA international break kicks in – around the same time Rust is expected to join Bucs too,” added the report.

WILL STELLIES BE WEAKENED BY RUST’S DEPARTURE?
