DJ and producer Oscar Mbo has officially launched the Oscar Mbo Foundation in his hometown of Kriel, Mpumalanga, with a mission to give back to the community that shaped him. The foundation, a nonprofit organization (NPO), is focused on charity work, including donating food parcels and writing materials to local schools.
Oscar Mbo, known for his hit song Yes God, is determined to use his platform for positive change, starting with his roots. “I’m proudly tracing my roots and part of my journey is through [the] education system provided by my hometown,” he shared. “After having done well in my career, especially this year, where I got to travel the world to showcase my skills, partnering with international brands such as Steve Madden and D’usse, and winning awards, I saw it prudent to go back to where it began for me, to celebrate with my community and inspire them.”
One of the foundation’s first major initiatives was a visit to Sibongamandla High School in Kriel, where Oscar spent three hours with the students. The foundation provided exam packs filled with essential goodies to help the pupils prepare for their upcoming exams. To further uplift the students, a braai was held, where they were treated to a meal.
In addition to the material support, Oscar Mbo took the opportunity to engage with the students through motivational speaking. His message was one of hope, resilience, and the belief that success is achievable, even for those from small towns. “I also did motivational speaking, giving pupils the doorstep of adulthood guidance in navigating the real world, and inspired them that success is possible even if you come from a small town,” he explained.
Oscar’s vision for the foundation is to continue doing charitable work in Kriel, focusing on empowering the youth and fostering a sense of community. The launch of the Oscar Mbo Foundation marks a significant step in his commitment to using his success to uplift others, and his hometown is already benefiting from his efforts.
