Over the years, Premier Soccer League (PSL) players have earned a fortune from their illustrious stints thanks to huge signing-on fees and weekly salaries capped with performance bonuses.
However, thanks to their fat pockets, some have invested big, from transport and logistics to farming.
FROM ANDILE JALI TO DEAN HOTTO, PSL PLAYERS MAKING A KILLING IN FARMING
In recent years, several PSL players have been expanding into farming, and The South African tracked down some of the players who invested heavily in agriculture.
ANDILE JALI
Earlier this year, former Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United star Andile Jali set social media abuzz after he took to Instagram to show off his incredible farm.
Despite not openly confirming what he is majoring in, he shared several photos while feeding a herd of cattle and showing off some of his sheep.
In recent months, he has been sharing several photos taken at his farm, which is reportedly located in Port Elizabeth.
With an illustrious career spanning years, Andile Jali has earned a fortune from football. He has played for several PSL clubs, including Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
DEAN HOTTO
In 2022, Orlando Pirates midfielder Dean Hotto made headlines when he revealed that he revealed that he was a farmer off-pitch.
At the time, he revealed to the media that he was more of a substance farmer, and his family takes care of everything when he is in South Africa.
He told the media, “I own cattle, goats, and other livestock at my farm in Swakopmund.”
The Orlando Pirates star added, “I have about 54 cattle. At the moment, I am doing it as a business but only for subsistence farming.
OTHERS PLAYERS
Earlier this year, former Mamelodi Sundowns star Bongani Zungu topped trends by sharing photos of his Ankole herd.
Against the post, Mzansi was more than convinced that he was already investing big in his life after football. Popular football blog Mzansi Football also confirmed the news on Facebook.
The blog posted, “Bongani Zungu has discovered a new passion for livestock and decided to pursue a career in farming, trading in his jersey for overalls and his soccer ball for a tractor.”
Bafana Bafana and former Orlando Pirates star Siyabonga Sangweni is also making a killing in farming.
In 2013, it was confirmed that the former Orlando Pirates invested a large chunk of his salary and other income in farming.
At the time, Sangweni’s sister revealed that the star had started investing in farming during his stint with Lamontville Golden Arrows.
