Even though X users seem to overwhelmingly favour Cilliers Brink, it seems ActionSA’s Nasiphi Moya – who was his deputy – will be the mayor of Tshwane after a deal was struck between ANC and ActionSA, as reported on Wednesday morning.
The City of Tshwane council is set to meet to elect a new mayor following Brink’s ousting on 26 September on Wednesday, 9 October.
X USERS WANT CILLIERS BRINK BACK AS TSHWANE MAYOR
The South African asked X users who live in the City of Tshwane who they want to be elected as mayor.
X users voted as follows:
- 85% voted in favour of Cilliers Brink
- A mere 12% voted in favour of Nasiphi Moya
- ANC’s Kgosi Maepa who was tipped for the position after Brink’s ousting received only 1.7%
- Only 1.2% of users voted in favour of Obakeng Ramabodu from the EFF.
X user Freda Scott said they had voted for the best mayor ever.
“Bring back Mayor Cilliers Brink. We need a clean healthy and honest City. Working sewerage plant, future growth, no illegal tenders and no water tankers,” she wrote.
Nunu Start also shared the same sentiments. She said “We had the right guy for the job! Cilliers Brink, the residents of Pretoria are worse off from all this self serving politicking. Let him finish what he started, everyone will all be better off, except the tenderpreneurs.”
Christo Knoeteze also backed Brink saying there is only one person and his team who can fix Pretoria and that is Cilliers Brink.
DA THREATENS TO PULL OUT OF STABILITY PACT
Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, on Tuesday morning, DA federal chairperson Helen Zille said the ANC hadn’t responded to her about whether or not they will support Brink on Wednesday.
“This shows just how divided they are internally. If the ANC doesn’t come back to me it shows they can’t reach an agreement,” she said.
Zille said there won’t be a stability pact unless Cilliers Brink is reinstated as the mayor of Tshwane.
The ANC and the DA were engaging on a pact to stabilise metro municipalities across the country including Nelson Mandela Bay. Some of the discussions include the ANC keeping Ekurhuleni, while the DA continues to lead Tshwane.
On Wednesday, the DA confirmed that they did not reach a deal with ANC for Brink to be re-elected Tshwane mayor.
