Pop icon, 56, confesses she misses a lot about the ‘freedom’ of the 90s

Kylie Minogue is one of the biggest pop stars of the last 30 years but she’s confessed she actually misses the ‘freedom’ she had in the 90s.

The 56-year-old gay icon has been back on top lately, thanks to her new album Tension II and last year’s smash hit song Padam Padam.

However, Kylie has lamented the wild dance scenes of the 90s, where she could let her hair down without the pressures of social media.

She recalled everyone ‘going nuts’ at the clubs, dancing the night away without the worries and responsibilities of adult life.

‘I was in it and among it, going to the clubs, going to fashion shows, pounding the pavement, going to markets,’ the Spinnin’ Around hitmaker told The Times.

‘I wasn’t wasting time scrolling on socials or dealing with, like, adulting. So there’s a lot I miss. Overall just freedom.’

The 90s was a definitive era for Kylie, taking her from an Aussie soap star to a bonafide music legend with numerous charting songs.

She was well known for her role as Charlene Mitchell on Neighbours, starring alongside love interest Jason Donovan with their famous wedding episode marking the end of her run on the show.

Her debut single, Locomotion, was released in 1987 — a week after that final episode aired — and became the best-selling single of the decade in Australia.

She was signed quickly and by 1988 her self-titled first album was a firm fixture in the UK Album Charts with I Should Be So Lucky dominating the singles chart.

By the 90s, Kylie was one of the biggest pop stars around with a string of hits including Better the Devil You Know, Give Me Just a Little More Time, and Shocked.

The 00s continued to see huge hits for the Moulin Rouge actress, with Can’t Get You Out of My Head and Slow topping the charts once more.

Kylie shared that she would love to tell her younger self to ‘trust your instinct’, something the All The Lovers singer continues to tell herself today.

‘Also I’d say “Have fun. There’s a lot to come, there will be a lot of obstacles and if you can’t go over them you’ll find a way under them or around them. You’ll find a way”,’ she added.

Last month, the Grammy winner was revealed as one of the faces of Charlotte Tilbury’s holiday campaign along with Kate Moss, Richard E. Grant, and Amelia Dimoldenberg.

The 2024 campaign will include a variety show with performances from the icons shared via short videos on the makeup company’s social platforms.

Along with the festivities, Kylie is heading out on tour next year with dates in Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, and London.

Tickets are mainly sold out but fans might be so lucky and manage to grab the final few which remain available.
