He was at Anfield to help promote Standard Chartered’s community engagement programme, ‘Futuremakers’.
And at half-time he donned his goalie gloves once again to take part in a penalty shoot-out.
James took his duties too seriously for fans’ liking however, as he saved an effort from a young fan.
The kid was even giving an opportunity of a retake to fulfil his dream of scoring in front of The Kop, only to be denied by James again.
After the save James turned towards the stand with his hands outstretched, appearing to brag jokingly.
Supporters began booing as soon as he saved the spot-kick, but the former Liverpool keeper did not appear to mind.
He proudly shared a clip of the save on social media, provoking a mixed response from fans.
One reacted saying: “Honestly, this says so much about you. None of it good.”

And a third wrote: “Sometimes in life you gotta learn the hard way, but yeah this was messed up.”
